Ratner wins Coliseum bid

From the Queens Courier:

Nassau Events Center, LLC an affiliate of Barclays Center builder Forest City Ratner Companies, announced Thursday that it won the bid to renovate Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Nassau Events was picked over the Madison Square Garden Company, and will oversee a $229 million renovation of the Long Island sports arena.

This piece doesn't mention that the winner also gets to develop the area around the Coliseum, which would seem to be the plum prize. Why else invest in an arena which will never have an anchor tenant? The only arenas which come to mind as getting by without either pro basketball or hockey teams are the Izod Center in Jersey, and the LA Sports Arena and Forum, if either one is still really active. And I can't see anyone racing to bid on those.

They are build wheelchair ramp rings around as well as partition it into 2 rooms with 1 smaller theater. Much like was done with the old Singer Bowl.
It still sits on a slum.

MSG lost out because of the Dolans. They control Cablevision and Nassau doesn't like the Dolans.

The Dolans are pinko liberal monopolists that want to control everything including what you see and hear.

This is pending not approved by the brass till the fine-print details on the "redevelopment' people & contractors involved are gone over with a fine tooth comb.
Nassau county wont put up with any bullshit. Ratner will be taken to task if he tries

If the Dolans are such liberals, why did Newsday endorse Romney in the last election?

Monopolists they are, though. I agree with you on that.

This is good news. The Dolans are slimeballs and have ruined the good name of MSG.

"why did Newsday endorse Romney"
-----------------------
Romney was a liberal, what could you possibly expect from Ma. He faked it as a Republican just like that slime ball McCain and others did

Anon no. 9: of course he was. And if you're gullible enough to believe that about him and McCain), there's this bridge that runs between Brooklyn and Manhattan that Is for sale.

Romney was an idiot for coming off on TV like a Wall street banker at a time when angry voters wanted to hang'em all.
Romney turned off the numerous young stupid people placing Obama right in office.
Why does McCain put on knee pads every time the president, Chuck Schumer or LaRaza comes calling ?
Americans don't want immigration reform, just enforce laws currently on the books deporting all the free loading super breeders. It would do wonders for housing availability, employment and crime stats
