Avella-Braunstein brownfield bill signed into law

From Bayside Patch:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed into law a bill proposed by state Sen. Tony Avella, D-Bayside, and state Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, D-Bayside, that would require the city to notify community boards of new brownfield site cleanups.

Currently, the city’s Department of Environmental Conservation requires a period of public comment for a brownfield cleanup and notifies adjacent property owners, nearby schools and local newspapers. But community boards had previously not been privy to information about new cleanups.

Under Avella and Braunstein’s bill, the DEC would be forced to notify community boards of all new brownfield cleanups.

Where are the trolls posting here that said none of Avella's bills ever get passed?

I love Tony but it's unbelievable that he had to spend his time on a bill like this - as in unbelievable that this wasn't already in place!!!!

Seems like such a logical thing to do.

Go Tony!

It's about time. I want to see a bill that notifies people where former brownfields once were. put huge signs on the buildings.Public institutions are mostly built on brownfields. that's schools, courts, hospitals, health dept clinics, prisons, jails, police stations, fire departments, libraries, museums, housing projects and of course, any HPD/DHCR buildings.developers hide the brownfield trails.

That was one of Padavan's private little jokes, that tony could never get any bills passed, like the kid at school, he'd say, that nobody would play with at recess. eat your words has been. a little late to stop the vallone family conspiracy in whitestone, but better late than never. unfortunately cb7 where the vallones rein supreme with help from chuck the buck apellian, it wouldn't matter anyway. chuck the vallones.
