Tony Avella explains why he dropped out of BP race

I got the below literature with this note:

"Is it just me, or does this latest mailing from Peter Vallone, Jr., all but imply that he has Tony Avella's support?" - anonymous

Someone's got a really big pair.

BS, he should have stayed in. I'll never give him $ again.
What a waste!

I did my own poll in Rego Park and Forest Hills and as Grappy said they recognized only one name and thats who they were voting for or none of the above - He did the right thing.

Therfore I will still pull the lever for his name.

Don't waste your vote.

He quit. Why make him a martyr.

Now look at the four remaining and pick the best qualified to fill the job requirements of Borough President.

That person will be looked upon by the rest of the city, country and world as our leader.

So much good can happen in Queens in the next generation.

The resurrection of the industrial western section of our borough stimulated by the presence of the high tech industry.

The resulting employment of young people making high salaries who want to live close to their jobs.

They will stay here, invest in property and reinvigorate neighborhoods that have been stagnant for the last three decades.

When they start families, they will remain here only if we offer them great schools for their kids. Then they will upgrade.

The co-op in Astoria will lead to the first house in Middle Village or Flushing.

Then a few years later the upgrade to Neponsit, Forest Hills Gardens or Douglas Manor.

Keep the next generation here in Queens and start with new leadership that looks not only at what is right in front of them but reaches out to shape the far future.

Amen.

FOLLOW OUR SCRIPT AFTER WE HAVE MADE THINGS AS POINTLESS AS POSSIBLE.

He quit. Why make him a martyr.

MARTYRS DON'T QUIT.

Now look at the four remaining and pick the best qualified to fill the job requirements of Borough President.

THAT WOULD BE A WRITE IN FOR MICKEY MOUSE.

That person will be looked upon by the rest of the city, country and world as our leader.

I KNEW THAT CREW RUNNING ASTORIA HAS BEEN OUT IN THE SUN TOO LONG. WELL IT IS A ONE PARTY/ONE FAMILY STATE JUST LIKE NORTH KOREA.

WHY STOP WITH THE WORLD WHEN THE COSMOS BECKONS? SPACE CADET.

So much good can happen in Queens in the next generation.

DEFINE 'GOOD' CAUSE A DEVELOPER AND A RESIDENT OF A COMMUNITY HAVE TWO VERY DIFFERENT VIEWS OF THAT.

NOT THAT ANYONE IMPORTANT CARES WHAT THE RESIDENT HAS TO DAY.

The resurrection of the industrial western section of our borough stimulated by the presence of the high tech industry.

THE BULLDOZING OF THE WESTERN PART OF QUEENS DISPLACING AND HOODWINKING A COMMUNITY BY THEIR ELECTEDS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH HI-TECH.

BESIDES AFTER SANDY DESTROYED DECADES OF MEDICAL RESEARCH IN THE HOSPITALS ON THE EAST RIVER ANYONE WOULD BE NUTS TO PUT ANYTHING OF VALUE NEXT IN THAT CORRIDOR.

ASK NOGUCHI WHICH WAS TOUTING DEVELOPMENT AND HOW THEY SPENT THEIR TIME AND MONEY AFTER THE HURRICANE (CORRECTION, ITS OUR MONEY THEY SPENT)

The resulting employment of young people making high salaries who want to live close to their jobs.

YOUNG PEOPLE DO NOT MAKE HIGH SALARIES THESE DAYS AND THEY SURE THE HELL DON'T WANT TO LIVE NEXT TO A TRAIN YARD, IN QUEENS PLAZA, OR ALONGSIDE A SUPERFUND SITE LIKE NEWTOWN CREEK.

They will stay here, invest in property and reinvigorate neighborhoods that have been stagnant for the last three decades.

STAGNANT? THANKS FOR INSULTING THE RESIDENTS ASSHOLE. THE AREA WAS ONE OF THE NICEST AND BEST KEPT SECRETS UNTIL OUR ELECTEDS AND THEIR GOONS DECIDED TO BETRAY US AND DO EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE ELMHURST OR JAMAICA.

THEN TRY TO REPLACE IT WITH CHARMING NEWPORT NEW JERSEY.

BESIDES THE YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T SEEM TO BE EXCITED WITH THE LEADERSHIP IN QUEENS. LOOK AT THE PARODY WEBSITE THEY SET UP FOR CB1.

When they start families, they will remain here only if we offer them great schools for their kids. Then they will upgrade.

MAYBE THEY WILL 'UPZONE' TOO - YA FRIGGEN NITWIT.

The co-op in Astoria will lead to the first house in Middle Village or Flushing.

THE FIRST HOUSE IN FLUSHING? - IS THAT WHY THEY WANT TO DEVELOP THAT WASTED LAND CALLED FLUSHING MEADOWS? - SOON TO LOOK LIKE THE DUTCH KILLS OR FLUSHING DISASTER WILL HOTELS AND UGLY DEVELOPMENT EVERYWHERE.

Then a few years later the upgrade to Neponsit, Forest Hills Gardens or Douglas Manor.

UPGRADE TO PISTILLI MANOR AND SOULESS TOWERS LIKE HUNTERS POINT WHERE EVERYONE MAKES A BEE LINE BETWEEN BEDROOM AND SUBWAY STATION.

IF YOU HAVE MANHATTAN A FEW MINUTES WHO IN THE HELL WANTS NEPONSIT. MAYBE PLACES LIKE ORANGE COUNTY OR NJ WHERE EVERYONE VOTES REPUBLICAN.

Keep the next generation here in Queens and start with new leadership that looks not only at what is right in front of them but reaches out to shape the far future.

ALL THE OLD GUARD'S KIDS ARE FOLLOWING THE VALLONES OUT OF ASTORIA, THE HIPSTERS 'MEET, MATE, AND MOVE' IN THE SPACE OF A FEW YEARS, AND THE IMMIGRANTS UPGRADE TO ROCHESTER OR CLEVELAND AS SOON AS THEY GET A CHANCE.

LONG TERM RESIDENTS THAT ONCE MADE WESTERN QUEENS STRONG -FERGEDABOUTIT!

Amen.

AND AN ALLAH AKAR TO YOU OUR SILLY LITTLE FRIEND.

Avella needs to write a letter to every Queens newspaper disavowing this circular.

That will nail Vallone's ass to the floor.

I cannot think of any candidates that have opened a floodgate of disgust from the normally lapdog Queens voters like that family.

Anonymous said...

Still voting for Tony

Anonymous said...

It looks very much like Avella has returned about $20,000 of his war chest to the Dems just before he bowed out. Was that part of "the deal"?. Was that to bribe his way into a nice retirement appointment?

That money could have been better used going to a deserving not for profit group.

There's Valloney baloney and now there's phony Tony.

Politics as usual! Peas in a pod!

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't give Avella the skin off a grape, let alone a penny, ever again.

He's a career politician with a poor track record of achievements for his long career in politics.

I hope you're reading this, Senator!

But here's my 2 cents worth of thought. Phony Tony, FU!

My vote now goes to Vallone.
Anyone but Katz.

Anonymous said...

Here we have the Peter principle in full swing!

Anonymous said...

Tony Avella made it *abundantly* clear on that radio show that he refused to endorse any other candidate in the BP race. In fact, he said that people could still vote for him if they wanted, as his name is on the ballot.

I think that the Vallones - Peter and Paul - are the biggest POS I have seen in politics with their non-stop lies and fearmongering. And, looking at that mailer, it looks like Peter is the one that's terrified that Tony is STILL going to pull votes away from him.

I hope Avella sues his ass for libel. Vallone Crime Family indeed.

Anonymous said...

"Both downzoned their neighborhoods to fight overdevelopment."

WHO THE FUCK DOES PETER VALLONE THINK HE'S KIDDING?

Don't let the rest of Queens become Vallonia!!!!!

Anonymous said...

It's funny how Vallone went after Tony when he was still running, but now that he dropped out, he wants people to think he's just like him.

Anonymous said...

"Still voting for Tony"

Hey Schmuck, Avella quit on you and you want to still vote for him? dumb.

Anonymous said...

Correct, he wants people to think he is honest like Tony. If the donators listened with working brains instead of crying about their $10.00 donation it would be obvious.

Thanks to the Supreme Court whoever has the most money wins.

Anonymous said...

Being an informed voter is dumb, so be it.

turn off your caps lock and more people will bother to read what you write. As it is now, I just skipped over the whole comment.

If Avella gave my hard earned donation to him to the Queens Dems than I'm finished contributing to him EVER in the future. Bad move Tony, you let a lot of people down. You proved that you're a politician first.

I could not care a bit about caps or not caps. The content is what is important. Also since I read it I thought it was very well done.

Avella has not given ANY money or endorsement to Peter Vallone. Do you actually think he would endorse Peter Vallone after he went after Paul Vallone on Tuesday with all of the other candidates in Council District 19??? That just doesn't make any sense.

Peter Vallone is trying to use you, voters. It's despicable, but we've come to see that often from the Vallone Crime Family lately.

Anonymous said...

Tony always was out. Out to lunch! Ask his CD19 former constituents how out to lunch he was during his council tenure.

Anonymous said...

Katz or Vallone Jr? My G-d, I guess that's what's called a "Sophie's choice."

Joe said...

It took him what 2 weeks to come up with this lame excuse ? Did he even write it or did some press person trying to do damage control ?
Still bullshit, Avella should have at least stayed in there giving Vallone thorns till the finish line.

I'm a republican who didn't trust my best judgement and gave him a chance.
I will never give him or any Democrat $$ again they all "buddy system" in Queens and ALL suck wind !!

Anonymous said...

I spent alot of time at City Hall and always saw him working hard for his district and all of Queens.

I am curious. Were you ever there? Or are you one of the absent council members from the hearings?

HAHAHAHAHAA "HIGH TECK INDUSTRY” Now that’s friggan most hilarious think I have read on this blog in a wile. Somebody call Mel Brooks.
This will NEVER come to pass because NYC schools have replaced math and science with liberal arts & sciences
Now the majority of these kids all want to be "artists" meaning = Impending democrat welfare dwellers for life or prospective slaves for Manhattan’s mutual moneyed . From what I see the Sanctuary City’s mayor and his replacement Democrats will be sure to keep’em all diverse, vibrant & imperceptive.

Queens is becoming the next Long Beach California or East LA !!
The highest tech your gonna see coming out of Queens is life jackets, rowboats & paddles.

PS:
It may be wise to purchase some stock in antidepressants and the items above at this time !!!

Once again another Democrat has decided "whats best for us" and the F_ with the people who paid $$ for the job he agreed at trying to accomplish.
I'm now convinced these pols are all buddy's covering each others back's and asses pending future special interest or "favors"

The only way to stop this shit is to throw them ALL OUT and start fresh !
Republican, ANYBODY but this bunch who have all forgotten who they work for !

Anonymous said...

Anyone but Katz.

Between Katz and Vallone, who would stand the worst chance against Republican Tony Arcabascio? We may need to do some strategic voting in the primary.

Anonymous said...

Hey all the bigshot Astoria pols and wanna-be pols do the same thing. Gus Prentzas who is running for Jrs. seat is putting pics of people on his lit without asking for approval and some of them aren't even supporting him. Then again it is par for the course for that lying snake in the grass.

Anonymous said...

Most of the comments here about Tony Avella are ridiculous. Why are you angry at him for dropping out? He wasn't going to win anyway.

I would vote for Vallone because it would dilute the power of the County Organization, enabling more independent candidates to emerge in future local races.

Also, as a conservative Democrat, I am not happy with the direction my party is taking. After legalizing gay marriage, pro-transgender legislation is next in line. Vallone would serve an important balance role in keeping the party from leaning further to the left.

Vote strategically and shoot one across the bow of the County ship. Vote Vallone for BP, Cathy Guerriero for Public Advocate, a Republican for Mayor and Comptroller.

Anonymous said...

Actually, it wouldn't do anything to county to elect Vallone except take patronage jobs and ice cream money away from them. Unfortunately, Vallone has his own stable of unsavory characters that we will suffer.

Not to mention that his brother is the county pick...did he have to blow Joe Crowley for that?

I never hung around city hall very much, had to actually work for a living. But for the many years I lived in NY, no more thank God, I lived in Avellas CD19. He never accomplished anything worthwhile. Couldn't even get a bill passed to keep from having to move his swimming pool off his neighbors property line after he was cited by dob. You didn't loose much Queens.

Anonymous said...

The bottom line is that "phony" Tony TOOK MY MONEY under FALSE pretenses!
I bankrolled him to win.

This SOB didn't even place or show. What a nag.
He ain't no stallion!

He's a coward who was strong armed into bowing out.

Threats and promises (of a cushy appointment) convinced our "crusader" to look out for himself before his supporters and constituents.

When has Avella EVER looked after anyone but HIMSELF?

He's got no occupation to fall back on if he loses any race. He's no lawyer. He's got no real skills except "career politics".

Remember, he's a Parkside boy who worked a COS for Leonard Stavisky. The Stavisky dynasty calls his shots.

I'll bet that Parkside was the go between in the deal arranged for Avella.

NEVER AGAIN!

Anonymous said...

VALLONE FOR BEEP!
Better to support a winner than a loser like Avella.

Tony pulled out before satisfying the dumb lover-supporters who gave him donations.

Now I'll have to yank my crank and votet for Vallone.

I'll never pull for Katz!

Anonymous said...

Vallone is a loser that could not keep his marriage together and hid while Astoria burned during the blackout, now wants us to foot the bill for 1000s of apartments next to the Astoria houses that will be unlivable when the next hurricane hits.

The people here that support him are the kind of people he likes in his community - sell outs who give two shits about their neighborhood.

Walk around Norwood Gardens and Old Astoria to see what your community will look like.

Anonymous said...

This is what the Vallone supporters want your community board to look like:

http://www.cb1queens.org/index.html

Hold your nose, squint your eyes, and vote for Katz.

I did not hang out at City Hall I am an activist and I too work for a living. But I did find time to fight for people instead of standing on the corner or bar bitching.

Interesting how the attacks on this site have incresed against Tony Avella since he stopped running - Seems to me someone(s) are afraid of something

Anonymous said...

Certainly after what Avella pulled, he should be concerned about his lack of credibility. he'll have to stand for election again shortly. Don't forget Queens!

Anonymous said...

Norwood Gardens and Old Astoria Village look the way they do because they're zoned for high density development and the LPC refused to grant historic district status to both.

Result, CRAP!
The Vallones only took advantage of the advantage that was handed to them on a silver platter.

Yes they bite the big one for helping it along. However where the Vallones live (Ditmars) the nabe is good. They haven't crapped in their own backyard.

That malcontent Ass-torian who keeps on insinuating that northeast Queens will wind up in the same boat as his Astoria is just trying to pull us into his fight. On his own he's a lazy ass! Never have I seen him pull his own weight...if the guy I'm thinking of is the same guy who's posting.

i.e. Auburndale, Broadway, etc. has the most restrictive zoning in New York City to prevent over development. R1-2A severely curbs Mc Mansions being built and prevents high rise development.

If you're jealous of our quality of life jealous one, then move out of Astoria...HERE! A bunch of smart Greeks did exactly that in the 1970s.

Once again...
according to the campaign finance board's records, Avella gave$25,909.55 to the NYS Democratic Committee on 8/7/13.

Make what you will of this.

----
As a matter of fact, I believe Paul Gaziano was involved in Norwood Gardens. Good job there Paul.

The Vallones create their own advantages - the Historic District Council website will tell you that there is little point in even trying to do anything for a community if their councilman is against it.

Vallone was against it.

LPC redlines the community.

So much for the Landmarks Law.

Think what will happen once the Vallones take over Queens and has a say in every community board appointments.

2. However where the Vallones live (Ditmars) the nabe is good. They haven't crapped in their own backyard.
-------

Tell that to the people in the medical building off Ditmars whose property was damaged and Vallone sniffed and did nothing.

Tell that to the people up in Ditmars that created the parody CB1 website.

Hey Astoria R-tard -

The ONLY reason Norwood Gardens was rezoned R4B & R5B was because Graziano got involved - for free, as usual.

The remaining rowhouses were rezoned R4B, which protects them from being anything more than two-family houses.

The R5B is a multi-family zone, but with a maximum height of 33 feet.

The former zoning there was R6, which allowed ANYTHING to be built there.

Get yer facts straight, Mr. Bean.

Anonymous said...

Avella was ALSO legally allowed to hand over that cash to a deserving not for profit group OR Paul Graziano who he endorses instead of the NYS Democratic Committee.

I'm not one of those other candidates, just a former Avella supporter AND donor, who is sick of Tony's press conferences full of strong words. So the city council took revenge on him and my nabe gets lousy service.

After November I'm re-registering as a Republican.

Anonymous said...

So what, Norwood gardens looks like shit anyway?

Anonymous said...

Nice try "beep candidate" Avella.

In this audio interview, Avella never really answered the question put to him by the commentator about how his confrontational positions may have harmed the neighborhoods he got involved with.

Here you have a true politician skilled at dancing around a question by giving a non-answer. Tony insists that nobody told him to stop "fighting".

Norwood Gone said...

Experts in the community of Norwood Gardens suggested that they should have been landmarked but were drowned out by outside 'experts' and Peter Vallone:

http://www.qgazette.com/news/2009-11-25/Features/Norwood_Gardens_Residents_Push_For
_New_Zoning_Plan.html

Instead of landmarking, they tried covenant restrictions and lost. Now someone can tear down the nice Norwood Garden 2 story and put in a Fedder 2 story - or get a variance and build a 3 or 4 story.

In any case, the congestion from development all around them is strangling the block:

http://queenscrap.blogspot.com/2010/04/car-break-ins-rattle-norwood-gardens.html

Just talk to those people next to the medical clinic about Astoria zoning protection.

The bottom line is little of consequence was done for Norwood Gardens except providing Peter Vallone's community preservation credentials (I kid you not) by standing next to him on city hall steps with 'ASTORIA SAVED' signs.
