is this n.y.c.curb restoration a ny state problem ?

is avella already running for john liu's shot at the nyc mayoralty ?it seems plenty of media is covering the nys senator lately?

Tony Avella is right.
It also stops stupid drivers from driving on my lawn.

And if he is, so what?

Anon No. 1:

It's the job of a legislator - state or city - to help their constituents. Rather than asking why Tony Avella is doing this, maybe you should be asking why the City Councilman (gee, I wonder who that it) isn't doing this.

it's the city's job to maintain the curb but when you ask the city to come to inspect the curb they say they would then need to inspect the sidewalk (an unrelated topic). How else can one describe this but as extortion?

And then, as has happened to me, they violate my sidewalk for minor cracks - caused by City trees - gave me 45 days, they also said the curb needed to be replaced but it's been three years and counting.

I spent $2,800.00 to fix my sidewalk damage - minor as it was - caused by City trees, and the violation only came up when I asked the City to inspect their curbs.

The City tells you you have to pay your bills on-time and fix violations on-time but reserves the right to repair curbs I don't know when - it seems some people have been waiting their whole lives getting this done. It's obvious they make no attempt to do the repairs in a timely manner and instead of telling the truth they resort to sidewalk extortion to keep curb repair requests down.

CMHalloran has last year taken action on the replacing of the curbs at the center dividers on 42 avenue/F.L.Blvd. to Clearview Exp.,Bayside.

letters from the D.O.T. and C.P.B.11 have been on record as to WHEN THEY MIGHT EXECUTE THE WORK.
the work is in their court now.

i e-mailed the photos to Q.C and the Cm"s office, the photo's appeared on this blog.

thank you Q/C and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

i am sure that the work by D.O.T.will not be done in my life time.we live in a nyc dem./lib government and this section usually votes conservative.

I've got news for you, Gramps. There are a few liberal neighborhoods who have big problems with the agencies you're complaining about as well.

On my block the DOT repaved the street without raising the curbs and now rain water floods my grass at the curb washing dirt away and killing my grass. I had a sink hole form and not to mention all the drivers that park their car by driving on the grass first.

I totally surprised at this news story.

As far as I knew, the City hasn't redid curbs since the 60s.

It has been the homeowner's responsibility since to repair and maintain.

IF I am wrong - please let me know, since I DO NEED a new curb. TKS.

the city d.o.t. did replace perfectly good CORNER CURBS in recent past years, for ramp style curbs for the wheel chair citizens.

the rest of us tax payers can go to hell. pay up & shut up.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your answer - yes, I recall seeing all the ramp style corner curbcuts now that you mention it.

Obviously, you don't have any relatives who need the curb cuts.

I do. They're a godsend.

---------------------

It was such a joke. They came around about 10 years ago, and added the curb cuts on the corners. Ok, that made some sense. But now, just within the last year or two, they came around again, and ripped out the corner curb cuts, less than 10 years old, to replace them with the exact same thing, but added those textured tiles.

And this was on some little-used side streets in Glendale. Meanwhile, there are corners in midtown Manhattan that are still not even sloped. Its a full height curb.

What a joke. What a waste of money.

during the avella/civic assoc. quest for R2-A zoning on our residential block in Bayside and after four 60x100 homes were demolished( one without permit),FOUR ,2x2 attached asian dwellings replaced them.three are absentee landlords and are rental apartments.

the squeezing of these buildings into small spaces narrowed the driveways.

i spotted a new tenant ,with a sledge hammer, demolishing the new curbs three feet on each side of the driveway,so he could park his larger car on the lawn.
D.O.B. was contacted.

the d.o.b. response on the website stated that the new curbs were crushed by the asphalting of the street???????

the new zoning came too late for this block. the congestion is really bad. the Auburndale section is being raped now. when the political/builders get their fill , the new zoning will happen but also too late.

Yet again, one of the so-called weaklies does a story, TV picks it up and then it gets on this blog, so you can further the "our papers all suck" storyline.

Queens Crapper said...

Actually, I posted this story first last August. But thanks for defending the weaklies as great bastions of journalism. I needed a laugh today.

Not only that, but these news reports were the result of pol press releases. So what great scoop did the weaklies get?

thank you Crappy for re-linking the readers to the CRAP CURBS ON 42nd AVENUE.

i sent these photo's to you ,and CM Halloran's office informed D.O.T & C.P.B.11(who was aware of this problem for 15 years).no other cm was previously concerned, like you know who?

the corners/intersections are flooded at every rainfall. the center dividers are turned into mud from all the autos , trucks and school buses parking on them.

this original post was on 8/2010. in case IRRELEVANT LEFTIE is monitoring correctness again.

Coming from the master of irrelevancy I take that as a compliment, bub!!!

I know this is unrelated to curb repairs but have you noticed how many street lamps are off on Northern Blvd. near the Van Wyck and GCP. Also there are no more white lines marking the lanes anymore.
What the heck is the D.O.T. doing to Queens. The roads and are in very poor condition. It's starting to look like the 70's again.
