Sears vs. Jackson Heights vendors

From the Queens Gazette:

City Councilmember Helen Sears wants to make the quality of life for her fellow Jackson Heights residents as pleasant as possible. One way to achieve this goal, she says, is to create an area totally free of food vendors whose carts now crowd sidewalks and generally block access to streets.

Sears (D- Jackson Heights) says she is "fighting for the day when our neighbors can walk freely down streets free from pushcarts and refuse in a zone that will prevent vendors blocking streets and overcrowding sidewalks".

"If Mexico City can do this, so can we," the lawmaker declared, referring to the Vendor Free Zone that has been established in Mexico City's historic town center.

The veteran lawmaker and civic and political leader has the area picked out to create this unique zone. It runs from 72nd Street and 35th Avenue and south to Roosevelt Avenue then extends east to 82nd Street on the north side of 37th Avenue and 78th Street on the south side. The area is presently one of the busiest shopping areas in Jackson Heights.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...I guess all of those pampered gay yupsters can't abide walking past those colorfully vibrant Indo/Pak vendors!

Try living in Flushing where the added stench factor of rotting fish and veggies will assault your delicate nostrils!

At least the piquant spices smell great as you stroll along the sidewalks of Jackson Heights.

And you thought that the creation of a sequestered municipal historic district would solve all your problems?

Crappy regularly censors comments.

:::Yawn:::

What great thought of yours was censored? Was it the "I'm going to kick your ass" comment lobbed at another commenter on this board?

P.S. This is not a government-run website. Therefore, the blog owner has the right to publish or not publish what he sees fit. Don't like it? Write your own blog.

And Crappy had to get off the pot in order to censor!

Actually, no. I am not aggressive like that. Those sound more like words Wade Nichols has been known to type.

The comments of mine that get censored are those that disagree with your position and point out the contradictory nature of ideas expressed by other commenters.

What's interesting to me is that while my comments written in the spirit of discussion are censored, comments that express racist sentiments, which you profess to not share, pass the filter all the time. Interesting censorship policies you have here, Crappy.

I have not censored any comments that were not threats or completely stupid, like praising murderers. And I certainly have not censored any comments on this post.

And P.S. there's no filter until 5 days has passed in order to prevent spam.

Moi? Hardly. I don't threaten anyone around here, unless you are intimidated by my literary left hooks, intellectual upper cuts, and my smack downs of stupidity.

As I said before, at least I sign my name, Ridgewoodian.

Now you've done it Helen, you have pissed off the tweeded. You better go back to toeing the party line, or no re-election for you!

If you're that bored Helen...just "cruise" on over to one of Queens' great tourist attractions...Jackson Heights renown "vaseline alley"!

JH needs a couple of tough leather bars to cure those pampered pussies!

Hmm. Then maybe your mom is helping you with the blog, because my "missing" comments were neither.

So post them again and stop whining.

Crappy, I've tried re-posting comments several times, and they never appear in the thread. I figure once you've determined to shut an idea out, it's not going to slip in.

And for Wade, this is you on at least one occasion:
"I'll bet I can knock you on your ass..."

What was your brilliant comment? Still waiting to hear it.

This nieghborhood is getting gayer and gayer every day and that is a good thing.

Not on this post, patronizing piece of Crappy. On multiple other posts. I'm only airing my complaint here because my comments were being blocked from those other posts. Djunderstand? Look, just forget it. You're right... this is your blog, and you can censor as you see fit.

You're full of shit, in plain English. I censored the person who kept challenging others to a fight. After 5 days, I have to read and publish all comments and wanted to put an end to the thread which had veered off course into a flame war. Don't like it? Don't flame.
