Contractor chosen for Police Academy

From the Daily News:

The city has picked a contractor to build its new Police Academy in College Point, Queens, and is prepared to spend big bucks to get the long-awaited project underway soon.

A construction venture called Turner/STV will be paid $656 million for the four-year task of turning a 35-acre police tow pound into a modern training center, city records revealed Monday.

The new academy, which carries a $1.5billion total price tag, will include a simulated city street and subway station to practice tactical maneuvers, as well as space for firearms and driving training.

"$1.5billion total price tag"

every town city and state are claiming they need to raise taxes becauts they are going broke (except Montana), not to mention the impending huge tax increases on the federal level.

Did it ever occur to these idiots to reduce spending? Wait till the city's finances are better off to start a project like this.

I welcome the academy at that location and can't wait for it to be up and running.

The problem is WHY THE F*CK ARE THEY BUILDING A 1.5 MILLION DOLLAR ACADEMY WHEN THE LAST ACADEMY CLASS HAD 250 PEOPLE IN IT, THE NEXT ONE WON'T BE BIGGER IF IT HAPPENS AT ALL AND ITS GONNA BE LIKE THIS FOR A WHILE

Great project.. just wait until we have academy classes with 1500 people in it again.
