Adjacent Myrtle Avenue building razed

From Newsday:

One day after a four-story Brooklyn building collapsed into a heap of rubble, Jose Diaz could only stand and stare as emergency workers began to tear down his own building - which is next door - as a safety precaution.

"The building is now unliveable. No one can go in there," said Diaz, 42, a butcher who has lived in 491 Myrtle Ave. since 2003. "I have to start living from scratch."

For now, Diaz and his eight relatives who were the other tenants are not allowed to reclaim their possessions as officials say the building is too unstable.

"I have to get my Social Security cards, the birth certificates for my kids, but I can't get in there," said Diaz of his third-floor apartment.

Jose, you don't need a physical Social Security card. There's no mandate to carry one. All you need is your SS number.

They ask for it when you apply for a job. At least they asked me to present mine.

This story made the news. The people who lived in the little green house at the corner of 18th Street and Newton Avenue in Astoria fled with nothing and it never made the news.

Only I, one of many witnesses, is here to tell the story. How much more suffering, how deep the news blackout?

May God keep the victims strong and remove the tyranny of the city and the developers who have no heart for anyone making less than 100K a year.

This is criminal behavior at its best. Methinks that Bloomturd needs to be removed from office immediately!!! Apparently, human life or any life means very little to the current administration. Government is supposed to protect people, not kill them!!!

This man did nothing wrong and he is being punished for other people's negligence.

As for the SS Card, George, it doesn't matter if it's his child's scrap paper, if it is important to him he should get it back.

He should get the free condo rather then the homeless squatters

Many of us are being made homeless by these policies. I have held onto my home only by the skin of my teeth and I have previously complained about many of my neighbors whose property was improperly seized or destroyed, all without anyone in the City or News Media making a peep.

Thank God for this blog. Beware your own property!

Government is supposed to protect people.

Not any more.
Like the cops they exist to protect property and big $$ special interests that keeps them in office.
I believe Jose can go into into the building at his own risk.
Poor Jose another victim of crap Asian slumlords who want to modify and pack 40 people into 2 families

Jose needs his papers and physical hard copy of ID. NY State depts like DMV now require 8 points of "HARDCOPY" identification and will not take anything else.
This is due to the recent wave of masive fraud and identity theft by the Mexicans and Central Americans

I just saw on NBC 4 about the story, and they basically just spun the story. What did they focus on: perhaps why was the collapsed building allowed to exist with such severe structural problems, and how the city dropped the ball BIG FREAKIN' TIME? NOPE. Try, they turned it into some BS fluff story about how the school of one of the young girls who lived there replaced her cap and gown lost in the house. They ended the piece with, "the family will now have to find another place to live." Hooray, well I guess everything worked out for everyone, right? Barf.

The media has been bought! Remember when journalism was known as the 4th estate? Now it is Bloomturd's estate. At least we have our memories!

I said it before on this blog, but I was there when it came down and the first thing I noticed was all the hasid orthodox guys that arrived on the scene and started getting on there phones. Either they truly care about the members of the community like any other passerby, or.......nice land.

As Dave Chapelle once said, "Some people think cucumbers taste better pickled"...huh....what?
