Go ahead and snap away

From the NY Post:

Faced with complaints from photographers and tourists alike, the NYPD has issued a department order reminding cops that the right to take pictures in the Big Apple is as American as apple pie.

"Photography and the videotaping of public places, buildings and structures are common activities within New York City . . . and is rarely unlawful," the NYPD operations order begins.

It acknowledges that the city is a terrorist target, but since it's a prominent "tourist destination, practically all such photography will have no connection to terrorism or unlawful conduct."

The department directive -- titled "Investigation of Individuals Engaged in Suspicious Photography and Video Surveillance" -- makes it clear that cops cannot "demand to view photographs taken by a person ... or direct them to delete or destroy images" in a camera.

It's OK for the cops to photograph citizens at peaceful demonstrations but it's taboo for tourists to snap shots of the Statute of Liberty?

BULLSHIT!

More likely the cops don't want to be inadvertently photographed on their jobs doing nothing!

Remember that old Penn Station video that was made of police
streaking through the station over a decade ago?

That's the root of it all.

The academy still teaches cops to be bullies...pure and simple.

And I know what I'm talking about having had family in the NYPD!

Now FU boys in blue!

Aaaaah, a venerable Speed Graphic! I cut my photographic teeth on those babies. Weegee used it in his photojournalistic ouevre. One shot you had then with the sheet film and you had better get it. Now, it's all bam-bam-bam with the motor drives. 100photos taken and only (sometimes) l good one.

Sorry, you don't get to see many motor drives. It's digital now and it's the same bam-bam-bam, but you don't have to pay for film and processing.

The best way to learn photography is with film, I prefer medium format, where you need to take the time to compose your image. You may miss a special instant, but you do learn composition.

After that's learned, you can shoot fast. The basics are automatic.

That being said, transit police still will sometimes stop people from taking photos and how many times have we been over that?

I don't count on this having much effect.

I have a brother who is a dentist, and a cousin who is an orthopedist. That doesn't qualify me to do root canal or spinal surgery.

Wow, someone's buttons were pushed. By the way, whatever sarcasm you might have intended in your first rant fell flat.
So much for having an intelligent discussion with you.
