Queens GOP continues to lack balls

As predicted: Read it and weep.

The Queens County Republican Party's Executive Committee met tonight and unanimously voted to endorse Mayor Michael Bloomberg for a third term. The Queens Republican Party's vote follows that of the Kings, Richmond and Bronx County Republican Executive Committees and paves the way for Mayor Bloomberg to run once more on the Republican Party's line.

One day Ragusa will describe the "screening process" used by him and others to end up endorsing the Commissar.

He can include in that explanation how he and others scouted every borough for an excellent candidate.

He can explain how, out of likely thousands of super qualified lifelong registered Republicans in this city, he and others puked up this Democrat/Republican/Independent/WFP for endorsement.

He can explain how the NY Republicans are not in a cult of personality. He can explain how the Commissar tossed the NYC Republicans scraps from the Democrats' plates - their unwanted leftovers.

He can explain how the NYC Republicans represent an alternative for NYC voters.

It looks like their mentor was Benedict Arlen Specter, Democrat/Magic Bullet/Republican/Democrat.

Shame on the rest of you for your mushy comments on how much you love the Commissar.

We all now know what the "R" stands for after a politician's name: RENTAL.

Well, your choice is now obvious: Dump all incumbents from either party on November 3. Demand better. Take control!

Castrato Ragusa is an accountant. Maybe he's gunning for Stark's job? Or some kind of patronage for him and the boys.

So glad I changed my party. I'm no longer a Republican. I wonder who Bloomburg paid off and how much. It's all about money in this city. If you have it, you have power. All I know is that I will NOT vote for Mike Bloomburg. I'm not giving him any more time in office to further damage our city.

It's not a lack of "balls" so much as desperation. The republican party is moribund here in NYC and trending that way statewide. These are long term demographic-based trends and there is nothing that can be done about it....Except for a "republican" that has unlimited funds, big ego and name recognition.

When -he- is finally done..that will be it for the gop.

It's also a degree of agreement, let's be frank here, Bloomberg's attitude toward developers and real estate in general is closer to republican then democrat.

My email to Phil Ragusa:

"Man oh man. You gotta be kidding me pal. You should be extremely ashamed of yourself. Bloomberg does not care at all about the republican party. Not even a little (ex. gay marriage, did you miss that one??). He is only out for his own bullshit agendas and making a legacy for himself. Because really, he has nothing better to do. I hope you think about this when he drops the party again to run for emperor of the universe in a few years. I sincerely hope that this email makes it to Ragusa. And I hope you take some of the money he gave you to get some treatment for you balloon knot. It must be sore from bending over for this egomaniac......."

Just for the record, I can personally give two fucks about gay marriage. I'm just trying to make him feel bad about his morals.

He has also shown a penchant for nanny state liberalism - no smoking policies, caloric disclosures, 'green' projects, etc.

It was the -Giuliani- adm that passed the 1995 smoking ban in restaurants, it hurt business a bit but it is a relief not to have your clothing and hair stink of tobacco whenever you visit one of those places.

I'am in the restaurant industry and in spite of some losses I agree with both the smoking ban and caloric disclosure. We are not in the business of poisoning our customers.

What I find amazing is that Bloomberg has been seeking the WFP line and then refuses to attend a debate that WFP and other groups have scheduled. Bill Thompson and Tony Avella will be there.

I know for sure I would never vote for anyone who refuses to debate. Also would not vote for someone I have to listen to every 15 minutes on the tv and radio. He now has two back to back every 15 minutes.

Turd enacted the most onerous ban on cigs in public places in '03, so dont mislead.

The bar/restaurant biz acts on the slimmest of margins, so the fact that it 'might have hurt business a bit' put many out of business.

Glad your hair smells better. I am disgusted by bad cologne and perfume, lets advocate a ban. Bars and restaurants always had the option to prohibit smoking, and non-smokers always had the option to not go to a place that allowed smoking. And at the time of the ban, there were some places that were beginning to ban or restrict smoking. I prefer freedom over government coercion.

Re: caloric disclosure. This is just silly. Why is it just calorie content that needs to be disclosed? Why not fat content, amount of salt, fiber, preservatives, vitamins, minerals or lack thereof, carbs, starch content, sugars, etc. Just knowing the caloric content of a food tells us virtually nothing if that is all we know.

Go get a steak with bearnaise sauce and potato dauphin at Per Se or Le Cirque. The uber rich owners of these restaurants dont have to worry about these burdens, but the small fast food restaurant franchisees do. They ultimately absorb these costs.

Why is it so difficult for an individual to exhibit some SELF-CONTROL? Who needs to consume a 12inch sandwich??? A double Big Mac?? Half a crappy Pizza Hut pie???

Sorry you need the government to act as your guardian angel and skirt you along this path we call life.

Again, Bloomturd is a nanny state liberal as much as any real 'conservative' I know.

Why should he sully himself debating? That is for mere mortals and commoners. Besides, he has much better ways to spend his valuable time -- like riding the subway and walking the streets and neighborhoods to take the pulse of the populace. Ha!

Let the coronation commence.

-That right there shows how much you know about the industry.

I'am silent partner in 4 locations and an investor in 22 more. I wouldn't bother for the "slimmest of margins" -that's the crap they tell people on the outside.

"Turd enacted the most onerous ban on cigs in public places in '03, so dont mislead."

-There is nothing misleading about my statement. You conservatives don't get "A"s in comprehension.

"but the small fast food restaurant franchisees do. They ultimately absorb these costs."

Oh bullshit. Chains with less than 15 locations are exempt and the "costs" for those affected amounts to having their menu printers add a few lines of small print below the description and at the display board.

I'll bet you object to the warnings on the side of cigarette packs too.

We have a roaring obesity problem in this country and it is due to diet. When I was a kid in the 1960s fattys were rare so to for diabetes. Now thanks to our diet of fast food and huge sugar intake I see fat slobs every day and they -all- get sick from this eventually.

You should be concerned about this because soon, we will have a form of single payer medical care here (we already do in NYC) and you'll be paying for the abuses of others. Like it or not.

Anonymous asks the central question.

Government was not created to count calories and prevent people from becoming obese.

It's my observation that the "concern" for obesity is really a personal revulsion that other people don't want to look like TV and Hollywood celebrities. These celebrities may look great, but, look again. Many, perhaps most, have serious, devastating problems such as drugs, alcohol, criminal behavior, and worse.

It is hardly the government's job to be setting and enforcing standards for our appearance or trying to compel us to obey Hollywood behavior rules.

And, Lino, you had better wish that we NEVER, ever implement a state-operated health rationing system. It never works. The Canadian legislator who recently demanded a new, harsher clause in their state-run health rationing, instantly flew to California the moment she discovered she had cancer.

She knew where there was the best health CARE, not state-budgeted RATIONING.

Monopoly is always evil. Competition is always good. Continuous competition brings out the best and least expensive. Monopoly is always expensive and brutally indifferent. Doubt that? Where are the efficiencies in the DMV? In DOB? In courts? In City-owned hospitals (such as the one in Brooklyn that left a woman dead on the floor for more than 8 hours - on videotape)? When Castro is sick, from where does he, who runs the world's best health care system, fly in his very well-paid physicians? How did the monopolistic Con Ed handle the evacuation before that house exploded just a week ago?

No competition? No service, no value!

I know the biz and call bs on you if you say different.

""Turd enacted the most onerous ban on cigs in public places in '03, so dont mislead."

There is nothing misleading about my statement either, I just had to clarify your glaring omission.

"Oh bullshit. Chains with less than 15 locations are exempt and the "costs" for those affected amounts to having their menu printers add a few lines of small print below the description and at the display board."

Do you know the difference between chains and franchisees Mr. Restauranteur?

"I'll bet you object to the warnings on the side of cigarette packs too."

Nice manufactured straw man argument.

"We have a roaring obesity problem in this country and it is due to diet. When I was a kid in the 1960s fattys were rare so to for diabetes. Now thanks to our diet of fast food and huge sugar intake I see fat slobs every day and they -all- get sick from this eventually."

I agree with that, and requiring restaurants to post calorie info has done absolutely ZILCH to combat the problem. I notice how you ignored my point about how many other factors impact on health and obesity. Calories, alone, are a bs measure left over from the 70's.

Lino said...

"I know the biz and call bs on you if you say different."

-Save that for the taxman.

"Do you know the difference between chains and franchisees Mr. [Restaurateur]?"

-I do. It means nothing here.
Most restaurants have limited menus and hiring a nutritionist (we did)to spell out caloric content is a one-time expense.

Funny that you would lead with that into this:

"Nice manufactured straw man argument"

-And you didn't answer the question.

"requiring restaurants to post calorie info has done absolutely ZILCH to combat the problem."

Well finally a grain of truth...

It was the restaurant industry (with republican backing)that opposed further, more detailed disclosure rules. To an extent, I agree here, there is only so-much info you can squeeze into a menu (or anything meant for casual reading) before people just ignore it.

Calorie content -is- an indicator of fat among other things and, just as warnings on cigarette packs, it does cause a moment of thought at the point of purchase.

This "personal responsibility" argument is just the same ol' crap that conservatives trot out to keep people ignorant and their big business friends wealthy while inflicting sickness on others.

Warnings and information are, just that -information.

Why would anyone of good faith be opposed to that.

Anonymous said...

"Calorie content -is- an indicator of fat"

No, actually, fat content is an indicator of calorie content. There are 9 calories per gram of fat. if you have just the calorie number without the fat number it means nothing.

Big biz owners, like the guy who owns a local Subway or deli. People get fat because they eat too much. How fucking stupid do you have to be not to understand that? My grandparents, who werent fat, shoved fat meat and butter down my throat.

This is probably true with the rest of us. They didnt need government luvin pissants to regulate it.

It starts with calorie counts, but as I have pointed out, calories counts are a miniscule part of the problem. Do you argue with that? Why were people better able to regulate themselves without governmental control until Bloomturd came along? If u address any of my points, please make it that one.

"This "personal responsibility" argument is just the same ol' crap that conservatives trot out to keep people ignorant and their big business friends wealthy while inflicting sickness on others."

Save me the poor bottom feeder argument, Mr. Restaurant Investor. You play Mr. Bigshot, until it better suits you to be Mr Common Man.

"People get fat because they eat too much. How fucking stupid do you have to be not to understand that?"

Oh boy another comment from the back row...NO, people do NOT get fat -just- from eating too much.

Genetics-heredity-metabolism.

I eat like a horse but have gained exactly 4 pounds since 1988 (I'am 5/11 @166 lbs) A flea market bud weighs as much as 405lbs and eats a tiny fraction of what I eat.

People from Latin America are more prone to diabetes due to genetics that evolved from an agrarian culture. Those who could store fat were better suited to survive a bad crop. Here where a high fat diet and more sedentary lifestyle predominates, they get fat..and sick.

"Why were people better able to regulate themselves without governmental control until Bloomturd came along? If u address any of my points, please make it that one."

When you make a point that makes sense I'll address it..that one is just stupid.

Bloombag has been in office since Jan 2002, obesity has been a growing problem for almost three decades.

Giving consumers information with which to make a decision is -not- "nanny state" or whatever you Limbaugh lamebrains call it, it is simply information. The same goes for trans fat and cooking oil rules. If food tastes the same yet is less fattening..why the hell is it your business.

"You play Mr. Bigshot, until it better suits you to be Mr Common Man."

I don't play "bigshot" - I just know more about the issue and not blinded by stupid ideology.

You and most conservatives take a Cliff's notes approach to this and other regulatory matters.

"...NO, people do NOT get fat -just- from eating too much."

I listed a number of dietary factors. You choose to ignore them. But the overiding theme is always, always - PORTION CONTROL!!! Do you debate that??? A 12 ox Coke is ok, but a 48oz Coke will put you in the fat tank. Is that not true???

Ohh and Mr Gubmint Reg, where are the Slurpee calorie counts?

"If food tastes the same yet is less fattening..why the hell is it your business."

Does it cost more, Mr. Restauranteur? I know for a FACT that it does. Is it a regressive tax? Yes it is Mr. Restauranteur.

So, Mr. Restauranteur, how many innocents have you saved with your calorie count?

I am better educated than you. I argue against a position, an idea or philosophy. You are too stupid to do that. You assume a position, me being a conservative, and continue to argue against what you believe a conservative would say or do and go on and on.

And why is it so hard for you to say, "Hey doofus, dont eat all 12 inches of the sandwich."? No I guess we need the gubmint to advise us so wisely in these matters.

"You and most conservatives take a Cliff's notes approach to this and other regulatory matters."

This I take offense to. Everything else was just stupid. But I want more on this topic.

See. Just a stupid remark from an ideologue.

"I am better educated than you. I argue against a position, an idea or philosophy. You are too stupid to do that."

You are only embarrassing yourself here.

Your arguments are tainted with the chop-logic of a Cliff's Notes conservative.

"You assume a position, me being a conservative, and continue to argue against what you believe a conservative would say or do and go on and on."

Well, you are hardly subtle about your....opinions..such as this gem:

""Hey doofus, dont eat all 12 inches of the sandwich."? No I guess we need the gubmint to advise us so wisely in these matters."

See, here is where you fail in your argument, aside from the childish "gubmint" remark.

I presented you with facts and a link that might enlighten you and you, Mr conservative are still playing that childish "gubmint" crap.

"This I take offense to. Everything else was just stupid. But I want more on this topic."

Yeah, I'll bet.

Try coming to the table with credible information and not some jackass diatribe.

The simple facts are that people are getting -much- fatter due to marketing of "supersized" portions and easy, cheap food.

It was the same situation with smoking 50 years ago when the vast majority of Americans smoked. The tobacco lobby fought tooth-and-nail to suppress the obvious links to disease. They had these ridiculous "smoker's rights" meetings where they got people to sign post cards to Congressmen asking them to stay away from anti-smoking legislation.

I knew three such people. They all died from smoking illnesses.

What seems to bother you most about me is that although I am a businessman, I also care about how I make my living and don't always take bottom line as priority.

You seem to prefer "caveat emptor" -known more commonly as "get the money and run".

You can carry on this discussion with yourself. I have wasted enough time on you "Anonymous".

You have really embraced the Socratic method. Honestly though, how is one able to ramble on for so long and not provide a single cogent sustainable argument?

So the world is full of retards ad we need the few, the proud beacons of light like you and Bloomturd can show us the light. Fuck you.

And dont give me this anonymous bs, wtf is 'lino' - that somehow identifies you? You are as anonymous as I am, Mr. Restauranteur.
