From the Daily News:
After a routine court appearance, a lawyer for the embattled Queens pol accused prosecutors of lying to snag a high-profile perp.
"If Mr. Monserrate wasn't an elected official, this case would have been squashed," lawyer Irving Seidman complained.
Monserrate is accused of slashing girlfriend Karla Giraldo in the face with a broken drinking glass during a December fight in his apartment.
Seidman accused veteran prosecutor Scott Kessler of fabricating the claim that Giraldo had admitted she was struck by Monserrate.
"What [Kessler] said in court was fictional," Seidman said outside of court.
Seidman also asked that the order of protection against Monserrate be lifted, but Judge William Harrington refused to hear any arguments.
But this is the best, from The Capitol:
For Monserrate, the outpouring of vitriol directed at him after he was arrested—The Daily News took to calling him “Monster-rat”—was in the same vein as the negative response he received for standing up for the residents of Willets Point, or taking on the owners of the New York Mets.
Standing up for the people of Willets Point? Are you freaking kidding me? He stabbed them in the back and threw them under the bus! And since the whole debacle is being orchestrated by the Mets, how exactly did he stand up to them?
