That is the opinion I was treated to by upstaters during the years our family owned a weekend house on Lake George near Ft Ticonderoga.
The young males were mostly glue huffing waste who spent whatever money they had in the local cat houses.
The fine self-righteous Republican owner of the general store openly sold hard-core pulp porno books with titles such as "Baby Bang My Box" etc. Their son was called 'The Pharmacist".
I ached to beat the livin' s''t out of them but was forbidden by my parents who feared they would ransack and burn our unattended house.

These people have consistently voted republican stoneheads into office and what good has it done them.
If NYS was split at the northern Westchester border, the remaining upper region would be one of (if not -the-)poorest in the country.
Cities such a Buffalo are simply obsolete and on their way to dis incorporation as self governing entities.
They were founded on industries that no-longer exist and will never return.
The only remaining viable areas such as Rochester have industries that are in survival mode and will probably cease manufacturing there and move their remaining administrative functions downstate or offshore.
The solution proffered: Casinos. Dregs. Deliver the area firmly into the hands of the mafia.
There are a few small areas where artists and their followers as well as religion groups have taken advantage of dirt cheap real estate and the area has beautiful scenery, but upstate will likely remain a drain on my city permanently.
At least we'll be rid of their two-bit pols such as Bruno etc.
And, so, Tripper Monserrate is the better man?
The Assembly and the State Senate are both unflushed toilets not because of one party or another, but, because we voters wish it to be so.
We repeatedly vote for morons who openly tell us how much they plan to screw us if elected or re-elected.
Watch Paterson announce his appointment of Kennedy as US Senator. Who of us has made ANY effort to prevent that or to demand that we get a special election?
