It's official. The Pepsi sign which has graced the LIC skyline for the past 72 years is moving for a third time, this time to it's permanent resting place. The sign which originally sat atop the Pepsi bottling plant and was moved to ground level in 2004 with the building of Rockrose's East Coast 1, is moving a couple of hundreds of yards north, so as not to obstruct the view from The View (Rockrose's new condo on the Waterfront). The sign should be disassembled one letter at a time and then reconstructed. The move is planned for Monday July 21st.

Who cares. These people latch on to something and 20 others gets destroyed and not a whimper.
Dozens of 150 year old buildings get torn down, and all people can think of is the Terra Cotta Building, Steinway Mansion and the Pepsi Sign.
For Christsake, every trace of old Hunters Point (except the Court House) is being wiped from the map, and saving one big thing seems to make it fine.
Yawn...
