N.J. Landlord Sued for Renting to Illegal Immigrants

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- A group opposed to illegal immigration is using federal anti-corruption laws to sue a New Jersey property manager for allegedly renting apartments to undocumented immigrants.

The Immigration Reform Law Institute is suing Plainfield-based Connolly Properties saying the company steers illegal immigrants into its buildings believing they'll be too afraid to complain about deplorable conditions.

The Washington, D.C.-based group filed a civil suit in federal court earlier this week using RICO statutes to argue the property manager is laundering rent money that's been illegally obtained by harboring undocumented immigrants in its buildings.

A telephone message and a message left in person at the offices of Connolly Properties seeking comment were not immediately returned Friday.

It's about time. This company is very unprofessional and they do prey on people. I am overjoyed to know that this swindler is now going to be destroyed along with all of his stupid little minions in that office. Welcome to unemployment losers. The people who are of African American or Hispanic descent that work for this man should be ashamed that they have assisted him in this form of discrimination. I am just happy that what goes around comes around.

Funny how, for a political leadership that crows its support for immigrant, remains silent on this issue.

You will never see this happen in Queens.

Remember how they came down on Project USA a decade ago. Lots of coverage there.

And none when they lost the suit the Project USA brought against them.... and used taxpayer money to fund the out of court settlement.

Not a word in the press.

Where is Project Acorn and that mysterious affordable houseing group funding by the churches?

Oh, they only care about massive new building projects.

Sort of like developers.

Interesting how some of the same people that take advantage of the immigrant ... are their own countryman.

And all they do is talk about Archie Bunker.

The fact is native Queens residents are the most tolerant people in the world.

I hope justice prevails and slumlord Connolly gets run out of town! My rent is high, maintenance calls are ignored or done unprofessionally. I'M SOOOOOO GLAD THIS LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED!

Maybe the Mexican guy my next door neighbor just hired to put 40 feet worth of rain gutters around the perimeter of his outdoor shed
lives here.

At the rate of $100 a day, this "illegal" improperly pitched the gutters and installed only one downspout for the entire square building.

So far it's a $200 job!

My licensed roofer would have charged only $350
for a job properly done....AND IN ONLY 3 HOURS.....rather than milk it out into TWO DAYS!

Picking up day laborers off the street usually offers no real bargain.

I can't wait until the next rainfall for my neighbor to witness the error of his labor choice!

Just what is it about the term "ILLEGAL" that's got every
knee-jerk's panties in a bind?

If I commit robbery it's ILLEGAL.

If I double park it's ILLEGAL.

But when it comes to somebody smuggling themselves into a country
ILLEGALLY it's suddenly, maybe not
really, ILLEGAL?

C'mon you all you jerk offs
get with the truth instead of your twisted Orwelian "new speak"!
