It's criminal

From the Daily News:

The heartbreaking farewell came as detectives looking into allegations that the explosion was caused by workers illegally tapping into the gas line were preparing to bring criminally negligent homicide charges against whoever was responsible.

“This is likely going to end up a homicide case,” a high-ranking police source told the Daily News. “The DA will probably bring it to the grand jury.”

The focus of the criminal investigation is building owner Maria Hrynenko and contractor Dilber Kukic, sources have said.

Both are suspected of tapping into a gas main meant to serve only a first-floor sushi restaurant to provide heat to Hrynenko’s tenants on upper floors. Kukic is no stranger to the law. He was arrested in October for allegedly trying to give a city inspector a $600 cash bribe to make two violations on buildings he owns on W. 173rd St. in Manhattan go away.

“No one's going to be charged for doing sloppy work, but if it can be proved that someone was told to do this, then it's a criminally negligent homicide,” the source said.

Everyone from Hrynenko and Kukic to the plumber who had been working at 121 Second Ave. at the time of the blast has been grilled.

“All of them got lawyers and they're all pointing fingers at each other,” the high-ranking source said.

I'm surprised that you don't lose your contractor's license after offering a city inspector a $600 cash bribe.

They should all rot in hell.

Sadly, we will see more incidents like this occur.

This corruption of the buildings laws goes on everyday. Unfortunately this one ended tragically. You think DeBlasio will help the situation? Hell no back to REBNY and his buddies, like nothing happened.

There is a caviler attitude in this city to rules.

The bodies will start to mount up. This is just the beginning of something that will get worse and worse .... until someone high profile gets killed.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear that developers are already chomping at the bit to build on the site!!!

"No one's going to be charged for doing sloppy work"

Having no "consequences" for the actions and results of shod and illegal work is the problem !!

For example: Down on Seneca ave in Ridgewood the gas company did rushed shod work to sell people on converting to gas. They dug sloppy excavating to much soil De-stabilizing and bust the asphalt sewer lines from the 1920s. They quickly covered it up and split.
Now sewage is flooding basements and flowing in the street.
NYC inspectors rewarded PSE&G with a free pass and told homeowners their 1920s Stier and Matthews flats were "to old"

LES...prime area for development...and that means bigger, maybe "luxury".

No demolition permit necessary now. These sound like Russkie names to me...whatever.

What the hell was he thinking? This is NYC. Inspectors expect bribes in excess of $1000!!

His mistake? Cheap!

The bodies are mounting up, there was that realtor who was slaughtered walking by the former St. Vincent's hospital.

This will get noticed when a celebrity gets killed. Preferably, Taylor Swift. It's waiting for her.
