Astoria groper caught?

From the Daily News:

A man suspected of being the bike-riding groper who has attacked six women in Queens was being questioned by police Tuesday night, cops said.

Police collared the man after they spotted him pedaling away from a screaming woman at Broadway and 31st St. in Astoria Tuesday morning, police said.

He was captured after he rode through a red light at the intersection, cops said.

The woman who screamed disappeared from the scene, so it was not clear if she was a victim.

Investigators believe the man is the pervert wanted for sexually assaulting six women since Sept. 15, police said. In each incident, the suspect rides up on a black bike and gropes the victim.

The person in custody was riding a similar bike, but it was wrapped in silver tape, a police source said.

Police were calling in the victims Tuesday night to see if any of them identified him.

Hi profile and low impact - makes for good photo ops and headlines but doesn't address the real problem in the community

- a gradual but persistent decline in the quality of life - a direct result of overcrowding, transient and absentee landlords - as well as a general sense that the aging leadership of the area really doesn't care - except to grab as much $ and run.

Agreed, but the overall quality of life is NOT the sole responsibility of the Police Department. They can only address so many quality of life issues without decent manpower and the cooperation of other municipal agencies. In this particular incident, good plice work addressed a current neighborhood problem, and won the day. The bad guy was caught. Kudos to the 114.

What planet do you live on? the 114 is generally regarded as disengaged by the community - just like its political leadership.

If you want to comment on Astoria, go first to some of the community blogs to become familiar with the community - it will make you more aware of what is going on there - better yet - if you ever get to Astoria, take a stroll around Astoria park and ask the locals about this growing problem.

Figures he was on a bike. Enough with the bike lanes - they only provide quick getaway for such pervs!

How do we know this? Just because they caught some hispanic on a bike doesn't mean they got the perp. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't.

They just released the "perv" they caught in brooklyn. After his name was run through the papers as a molester of course.

What ever happened to the accused rapist in Whitestone? It's odd that we haven't heard any update about it.

I got a groper arrested here in Forest Hills (victim and two witnesses). Not a word in Press. could it be because he wasn't black or Latino? Another Dennis Gallagher type case? Or should I just say connected?
