MTA removing garbage cans in subway stations

From AM-NY:

It seems ironic: to cut down on trash on subway platforms, the MTA is considering trashing garbage cans.

The cash-strapped agency may remove all the cans from some platforms if everything goes well with a test-run underway at two stations. The MTA is banking on riders to take their trash with them, or simply bring less of it.

If the pilot program — which began two weeks ago at the 8th Street N/R station and Flushing/Main Street No. 7 station — is successful over the next two months, it could roll out to other stations.

Step #1.
MTA removes the refuse cans.

Step #2.
Rodents feast on the garbage left behind by commuter pigs on the platforms (preferring it to the MTA's poison bait)---get as fat as Boss Tweed and multiply.

Speaking of pigs---
Didn't pigs once roam New York's streets eating up any organic material left behind?

In effect were they not the sanitation department of their day?

Too bad many of these pigs now occupy city hall.

They could be most useful now that the MTA has made this idiotic move.

Maybe the rats can do a better job running NYC.

Is Main Street really the best station to test this. First of all, there is almost always a train on one of the three tracks for passengers to immediately board, so nobody really ever stands on those platforms for any prolonged length of time. The trash therefore, usually gets left on the trains, not in the station.
Second of all, let's face it, although FAR from perfect, the asians tend to be somewhat less prone to littering than, let's say, their latino neighbors in Corona and Jackson Heights, or the good citizens of Jamaica. Try this experiment at Roosevelt Avenue or Jamaica Center or Sutphin Archer, and the results would be far more catastrophic.

Anti-terrorism measure which is also the reasoning behind screwing up Manhattan traffic patterns.

Those "super clean" Asians dump their trash on Flushing's streets before they enter the #7 Main St. station!

Have a look. Have a smell.

UGH! What unsanitary peasants!

LOL!

That ought to help Michael Meyer's and TDC to sell the "beauty of Flushing to overseas investors".

Now the crap will pile a mile high on the street corners.

Good....
dump it onto the tracks causing track fires and disrupting service.

I'm tellin' ya folks....
it's a return back to the 1970s.

Bloomberg should have been dumped at the polls when we still all had a fighting chance.

Now he'll be here 'til we rot.
You just try to evict him from his throne room.

After intial adjustment, it will make me feel safer. None of London's Tube stations have trash cans for terrorist reasons. Even with the cans, I'm seen so many lazy A-holes reach down and leave their coffee cup on the platform right before the doors close. I agree with georgetheatheist - "pack it in, pack it out." Those cans always seem to be overflowing anyway - should keep it cleaner.

RU kidding?

Bloomberg is New York's chief terrorist!

So now the MTA staff will squat at every column witht heir mouths open so we can dump our trash in them?

Maybe they want to have another bubonic plague epidemic to decrease the surplus population.

Stop passing out those god damn free AM New York papers. That would be a start.

Ever walk around Corona, Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Bed Stuy, East NY? They are MUCH filthier, and war zones as well.
