Forest Park Carousel still collecting dust

From the Daily News:

Visitors to Forest Park hoping to take a ride on its historic carousel will have to wait a little longer.

Plans to open the carousel, which has sat silent for more than a year, are still pending while the city works with a new vendor and vies for state funding to help with its restoration.

Local officials had originally hoped the wood carousel - cited by experts as a rare jewel - would be open this summer.

Heartbroken carousel lovers are making their voices heard with a grass-roots campaign that includes a new Facebook page and a petition drive.

More than 250 people have joined the group in less than a week, sharing memories and urging officials to act quickly.

That is so sad.

Hey, when we have Dragon Boat racing and Diwali and Ecradorian Independence Day and Lunar New Year and Cinco De Mayo that takes so much fun and attention (to say nothing about funding for cops, etc) who needs something that would put a smile on ol Archie Bunker's face?

That alone is enough to kill this.

Those fine and extremely valuable antique carved wooden carousel animals should be safely protected in a museum.

Fiberglass replicas should be substituted in their place.

Why invite vandalism.

Yea, like the Millstones at Queens Plaza, drive stakes through them and expose them to weathering and all kinds of fun.

THIS WHOLE SCEAN IS JUST DOWN RIGHT UNCALLED FOR & HURTS NO ONE BUT THE CHILDREN & PARENTS OF BOTH RICHMOND HILL & WOODHAVEN, NOT TO MENTION OTHER FAMLIES FROM DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOODS WHO COME TO FOREST PARK HOPING TO RIDE THE CAROUSEL. THIS STINKS JUST LIKE NYC GOVT!!
