Judge gives alleged murderer a free pass

From the NY Post:

Kareem Bellamy, 42, was sentenced to 25 years to life in 1995 for the murder of James Abbott in Far Rockaway.

After his lawyers uncovered new evidence pointing to Bellamy's innocence -- including a tape of someone else confessing to the murder -- Supreme Court Justice Joel Blumenfeld vacated the conviction and ordered a new trial.

But prosecutors discovered the tape was faked, and asked Blumenfeld to reinstate the conviction and send Bellamy back to prison. The judge refused.
