Avella stops developer in his tracks

From the Times Ledger:

City Councilman Tony Avella (D−Bayside) led a protest outside a North Flushing home Tuesday where he said a developer is making a “bizarre” attempt to “beat the clock” on a forthcoming rezoning.

Avella and more than 30 North Flushing residents rallied outside of a Tudor home at 166−43 26th Ave., where a tenant said the owner, Paul Rufino, recently began excavating with little notice. Avella said Rufino had been negotiating with his office and area residents over plans to construct an eight−family home on the property.

Now, with the North Flushing rezoning plan expected to go into effect April 14, Avella and residents of the area said he is trying to complete enough construction on the property to get his plans grandfathered into the new rezoning.

Hey does that say "notice to revoke" on 4/1/09? Way to go, Tony!

Jerkoff Tony doesn't have a chance! That loon couldn't stop a development if it was being built around his own house.

Adios, Tony! Too bad you can't win reelection, and are retiring early. See ya!

I would love to know why anyone is starting fresh projects when the ones already built are not selling and existing homes are being foreclosed?

You gotta love Tony.

Where do they plan on fitting all of that on that corner lot is beyond me. If I'm not mistaken that property belongs to the people that own the businesses on Francis Lewis Blvd. And they even took a portion of the backyard for the offices on Franny Lew.
How can they squeeze all of that in there? Unless they plan to build all the way to the curb. I thought the Yard Text Amendment really limits builders on corner lots now.
And from what I hear North Flushing is about to finally be rezoned very soon when Avella will hold his meeting at the City Council.
How can a builder get away with this?
I drive by this house every day and there are construction guys there right now. A facility like that will be devasting to that area. Even now parking is a hassle. I thought builders were scared to start projects right now. If he isn't, he should be.

Tony Avella is looking very mayoral lately. People are taking notice. Keep up the good work, Tony!

If you really thought that Tony doesn't have a chance to sit in Mayor Mike's jerk-off seat how come you felt the need to be the first poster....asshole!

Many people support Tony Avella for mayor. He is the smartest and most ethical legislator and he is not afraid to speak his mind. He is quality all the way. It is the media that is behind the times and those who fear he will take something from them … like the real estate industry/developers and the inhumane and corrupt carriage horse trade.

Please see out blog New York Views - a Sporadical. We are not as prolific as this one, but we try. http://www.newyorkviews.blogspot.com/

I would ask you to link to our blog because it complements yours but I see that you do not have that feature.

Keep up the good work!!!

Just drove by -
There is a cement mixer pouring cement with the house still there! What does that mean?

Queens Crapper said...

That means you should call Avella.

When you have trouble in your neighborhood and community, who will get in there and resolve the problem?

The Commissar? Thompson? Weiner?

NEVER. They ARE the problem!

Smart taxpaying citizens ask Tony Avella for help!

Let's all be smart and take control and elect Tony Avella as the next Mayor.

Evan,
Does Mommy know you are up late and using the computer? Better be careful or she won't tuck you in tonite!

LOL, yes Avella will be the next mayor, the Easter Bunny will be the next Governor and Yosemite Sam will be the next President!

Avella can't win reelection in his own district, meaning he can't even get 2,000 people to support him.

I doubt he's even really running for mayor. He's probably just saying that, because it sounds better than "my district no longer support me, so I decided not to run for reelection, and plan to retire."

Anonymous said...

That's ridiculous. If Avella ran again, there's no doubt he would win again. You don't know what you're talking about and you obviously don't live here.

Queens Crapper said...

Tony Avella is not running for his current seat again because he disagreed with the undemocratic term limit extension that the mayor and other council pigs decided to grant themselves without a referendum.

Uh....er....
didn't Tony once work for the Staviskys?

WE HAD PROBLEMS OVER HERE ON MAZEAU STREET IN MASPETH AND TONY CAME OVER HERE TO HELP US. AND YES HE IS A GREAT MAN!! WHO CARES ABOUT OVER DELVELOPMENT. AND IF YOU SEE SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THE SITE AND THERE IS A STOP ORDER CALL 311 AND TELL THEM A POLICE OFFICER SHOULD COME IMMEDIATELY AND SHUT THEM DOWN. MAKE COMPLAINTS WITH DOB AND KEEP ON THEM. WE DO OVER HERE AND THE OWNERS HAD TO DOWN SIZE AND WE ARE WINNING THE FIGHT.

I cannot be sure but I suspect when the word "loon" is used, it can be attributed to the carriage industry, not Stavisky. They troll the blogs looking for nasty things to say about Tony. Why? Tony had the guts to ask for a ban of the inhumane and unsafe horse-drawn carriage industry. They are beside themselves because they have owned every politician in Queens for years .. Gennaro, Liu, Vallone, etc. but not Tony Avella...They want to see Mayor Mike get reelected because they think he supports them. But wait! He is considering the alternative - "antique" electric cars, a totally green and exciting industry. This industry would be given to the drivers on a silver platter, but still they fight it. Sounds like they have a better (under the table) deal with the horses. Hmmmmm.

And yes, people are taking notice of Tony and liking what they see. Not everyone supports corruption and lack of ethics.

thanking you for the info on MrAvello. I'm calling his office Monday for advice on what can get done on 2 unfinished "projects" on my block.
Houses were gutted 100%,one's wide open front and back, one the rear only--both sites filled with all those circulars and other crap. Looks like the south bronx back in the day...and these are all attatched dwellings.
LOL ! wish they could demolish this mess and we can have a pocket garden.

be nice to tony avella, he works hard to help communities and he hates over delvelopments. i know i would vote for him over bloomass anytime. mayor is a lying a-hole who takes from the poor to give to the rich. don't let this a-hole of a mayor kid you, with i don't take a salary, he gets paid back with prime real estate, through out the tri-state. can't wait for this man to go away and quinn also.
