Speaking out against the Queens Machine

Charles Ober today challenged the Queens County Democratic Organization executive committee to justify its decision to endorse Elizabeth Crowley, cousin of the county leader, U.S. Rep Joseph Crowley.

“Elizabeth Crowley has no apparent community based qualifications for city council other than her insider relationship with the Queens Democratic machine.”

CHARLES OBER CHALLENGES QUEENS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC ORGANIZATION ENDORSEMENT OF ELIZABETH CROWLEY

“I was also informed that if I did go forward with my bid for the city council seat, county was going to take me to court to challenge my petitions to make sure that I did not make it on the ballot. Either way I was not going to win, I was told flat out. Executive county members made it clear that they will use the courts to keep me off the ballot, instead of letting the people decide who the they want to represent them, which is suppose to be the democratic way, not taking candidates to court to keep them from running and financially ruin them.”

What? The Queens Democratic Machine said this? I can't believe it...

“We have to ask why it is that developers have been able to destroy the character of the neighborhoods and why local political leaders watched while the zoning laws failed to protect us.” Ober said. “And why it is that the City of New York’s building department failed to enforce building regulations.”

Oh, well when you speak out against overdevelopment, expect to be attacked by the Queens Democratic Machine. You see, they like it this way, even when we don't. It doesn't matter, the people here vote for who they're told to vote for.

This should have happened long ago. For decades, the party bosses have been endorsing incumbents before the primaries, and knocking out grassroots insurgent candidates. The time to knock out the Tammany of Queens is long overdue!

No matter who wins, I hope Crowley does so poorly that she is embarrased to ever run again. Every public statement and appearance she makes exposes how unskilled and unqualified she really is.

And Anthony Como's house proves how uncaring and unqualified he is.

That comment is pretty silly. Even if you don't like his house, that has nothing to do with his qualifications.

Actually it does. You can't be for cracking down on building violators when you yourself are one. You can't be against overdevelopment when you yourself are part of the problem. Saying others are jealous because he has a bigger house than they do is proof that this man is unqualified and also quite stupid.

Since Crowley has been entirely absent from all community involvement since being defeated by - of all people - the disgraced moron pervert Gallagher - why does she or the Democratic party in Queens think she deserves a shot now?

Because her name is Crowley? Her cousin is Joe Crowley? (Even he doesn't support her).

Because her brother Francis is in federal prison after a conviction for rape - how much like Gallagher! - she now believes her expertise is sexual perversion? Or, does she have other claims on expertise in perversions?

If she thinks she is actually qualified, why the phone calls to candidates demanding - not asking - that they quit the race?

It's again time for Crowley to quit or lose!

Your issues with his house have to do with policy positions, not qualifications. Now, you leaving the same comment three times in a row makes me question your qualifications for running a blog.

I'm supporting Como but after viewing Crowleys bowling photo on the Patriots blog i might have to reconsider. This is girl is hot!

Actually the comment issue was a Blogger problem. Thanks for pointing it out, I corrected it. Which is more than Anthony Como did with his house. So explain how Como is qualified for the position. Because he's been Serf's lapdog for the past decade or so? Or is it because he's a party loyalist? Maybe because he oversees the Board of Elections and will see that the vote comes out in his favor?

Has to be the biggest and most blatant conflict of interest I've ever seen in my long life.

Where are the Feds?

We were in Middle Village today and giant posters in many store windows "Vote for Anthony Como - Special Election". Didn't know the Mayor had scheduled the election.

Anyone know if this is legal?

I think it is pretty stupid to criticize someone for making a small detached one-family house into a bigger, nicer one-family house. I live in Middle Village and just about everyone I know are happy to see these types of improvements. The main complainers are the cranky residents that moan about any change or any construction around them.

Come back after you have sewage in your basement and tell us how you feel. And if you think that disgusting eyesore is a bigger nicer one family house, then you need your head and eyes examined.

Small one family houses are environmentally friendly. Obviously, Como cares not one iota for the environment.

The house right across the street looks nice, that was recently expanded. How do you know what his house will look like when it is done? New construction is more energy efficient than older housing stock. The most energy-efficient means of living are apartment buildings, but I don't see you advocating that.

Exhibit A of why the world laughs at Queens.

Maybe you should get out of the community more (or get off the community board) and broaden your horizons.

Does anyone realize that if we took all the energy we take into fighting amongst civics', fighting amongst each other, the ego's that prevent organizations from working with each other, the negative comments made on this site that attempts to undermine each other, AND we took all that energy AND we all worked together as an organization that wants what is best for the community, not only would we help elect the next city councilmen, but we could move mountains for our communities, if we just learned to work together for the common good of the neighborhoods. When are people going to realize that?

If we all stood toe to toe and fought the machine, we would not have candidates forced down our throats with no opposition. It is time for Queens politics to change once and for all, and elect who is going to be best for us and not who county wants us to elect. Does anyone realize the extent that county will go to get Charlie off the ballad? Does anyone realize how hard they are going to fight to cause Charlie to drop out?

AND LASTLY, DOES ANYONE REALLY CARE? Because if not one cares, than county will force Liz down our throats and we will be stuck with dizzy Lizzy for at least 8 years. Do we really want that?

This is one time the community needs to stop bickering and help Charlie get on the ballad because if he does not make it on the ballad, mark my words, Dizzy Lizzy is taking office.

Think about that for a minute.

Thank you.

I am going to stay anonymous because I do not think we need to talk about who wrote this, but how we can change these corrupt politics once and for all.

They're trying to keep Charlie off the ballad? He sings? I think you mean ballot, and of course they are going to try to do that. It's Democratic & Republican Queens Machine Politics 101

I personally can't wait to rip Anthony Como at my civic association's meeting next week.

I found the message much more important than the person's spelling of "ballot"

When someone with the talent of a Napoleon or a Ghenis Khan shows up, ring my bell and I will look out the window.

Looking at the current crop of leadership that will not be anytime soon ...

... besides, there is not one 'playa' out there that has not made some deal with the devil.

Question for Guess Who Said:

What meeting are you going to be at when you rip anthony como, i would like know so i can be there to see it all go down.

Side note, I heard he will have to resign from to BOE before he has to file his petition signatures.

Yes, and of course he won't have his buddies on the inside help him out.

Brothers and Sisters in solidarity,

Stand up and say something. I am in the painters union DC9. We were told a few days ago that we have to take a personal day to go out and campaign for Liz. Liz is the one with the no-show job that her cousin the congressman got her. She is the laziest person we have ever met and we all do not like her yet we are being forced to go out and get signatures for her so she can run for election. we had to do this for her in 2001 and i'll be damned if any of us are going to do it now for her.

Many other guys on this job site have been told by their shop stewarts that they have to go out also. Like the plumbers and the sheet metal guys. now think of this, they are coming here telling us that we have to go out or we are not going to be working here any longer.

many of us say this is crap. so some of us took the liberty of calling the elections office and they told us to call the campaign finance and we did. they are investigating this. they said that this is a serious allegation. They also want to hear from other guys that are in similar situaions. the lead investigor assigned to this case is Eric at 212-306-7147. He said that anyone that calls will remain anonymous,

They also said that this is a crime. that we can go to jail for participating in this type of action. They also said that anyone who signs the petitions can be called in to court to testify and when the feds start investigatig this we will have to give sworn statements to them. I do not know about anyone else, but i am not going to jail for anyone.

So some of us are going to call in sick to get out of this mess. But i thought everyone should know exactly what is going on and how serious this matter is and that we have reported it to the autorities and it is seriously being investigated. beware this could come back to hurt us all later. let her go get her friends to go out not us. we make over $100,000 a year not to go out and get petitions for crowley, i don't care who her cousin is.

I wouldn't be surprised if Como wasn't behind this. He would know who to call in the BOE. Membership has its privileges.

This story should be the lead story on this site. Do you realize how many people would love to see this story. It needs its own story line so that people can comment. You can't make this crap up. Unbelievable how corrupt politics really is. HMMMMM I wonder if she reported this expense to the campaign finance. ??????????

We should all write in Ober instead of these two political hacks. I live around the corner in a tudor near that "addition" he's building. The old house that was there was a 4 bedroom, arts& crafts style. Asking price when it was on the market $1.2mil. So let's ask a logical question here; how does an assistant district attorney, queens politician, Board of Elections worker afford that and the $'s to do a complete teardown and build? The same way a rookie cop making 25 grand a year does - HE'S A THIEF! Just like all the other fat slob politicians who claim they love Middle Village and represent us. I'm sure he'll waddle his fat ass down to Gallagher's house up the block for more political "advice".

how many people can the crowleys buy off to get poor lizzy on the ballot. normal politics as usual. I hope with this the feds finally investigate them and put them all away. enough already.
