Flushing illegal vendors making streets more unwalkable and less joyful

Councilwoman Sandra Ung on Wednesday, March 8, announced a petition calling on the city to enforce existing street vending regulations, including the no-vending zone that went into effect in 2018, to address the proliferation of unlicensed street vendors in downtown Flushing.

The councilwoman was joined by Dian Yu, executive director of the Flushing Business Improvement District (BID), and concerned community members for a press conference near the Flushing LIRR Station on Main Street and Kissena Boulevard, where some vendors sell vegetables, fruits and clothing.

“I am encouraging everyone who is frustrated like us to sign this petition and show the city that people who live, work and visit here, support enforcement of the no vending zone and want our sidewalks to return back to the pedestrians they’re intended for,” Ung said.

The current density of street vendors has created a risk to public safety. The petition drive comes ahead of an interagency meeting Ung will host next week to discuss the issue.

“It’s one of the busiest commercial corridors in the five boroughs and home to the third busiest intersection in the city,” Ung said. “And let me be clear, our goal is not to prevent people from making a living or providing for their families; however, in the absence of enforcement, the current situation in downtown Flushing has become untenable.”

The worst experience I ever had was running t the express bus at Rockefeller Center when a Street vendor, peddling from a plank atop a trash can, clogged up traffic so much, I lost the bus, who got tired of waiting fifteen minutes despite acknowledging us, As Barry O'Bamaugh from County O'Phalley, likes to say "C'mon Man!"

Wow, I’m shocked to learn this thing we all knew.

Making the streets unwalkable? Did they not get the memo? Walking is for communists. Real Mericans drive their pickup trucks.

Joe said...

Leave them alone, just like Canal street in the 1970s. Street vending, hotdog & pretzel, ice carts is what NYC has always been.
They been there for 30 years why is it a problem now?
Main street Flushing is the only place you can find oddball stuff like a box of 48 AA alkaline battery's, $30 Rolex, interesting gadgets, LED bulbs, all gray market items at 1/3 the price you pay elsewhere.
Pickup, pay $16 for 6 sets of cotton socks and 4 cheap work Ts, 30 seconds and done!!

Try that at some store or worse Costco, Walmart Zoo or some joint on Myrtle ave----Yea, wait in lines behind 8-15 smelly inner city pieces of garbage with a baby carriage +3 or more unruly wild-ing screaming toddlers in tow. Get in a fight, get shot, spit at if your white.---No thanks !!!
With retail and bodegas turned into lawless black criminal paradises some of us like these Asian street venders. Has anybody noticed how blacks don't go to or shop in Chinatowns, that's because thos elooking for trouble know the the Chinese have machetes, knives, pepper spray and guns under the tables as well as paid organized Asian gangs about "as in Zips" protecting watching the neighborhood.
I know many of those Main street vendors for years, all nice hard working people.

I wonder what special interest or progressive city pricks is paying or lobbing Councilwoman Sandra Ung to erase these folks like everything else.
Erase culture, Erase New York, Erase home owners, Erase people they don't like

Why do Asians continue voting for Democrats?
Good luck to my Asians. Most Democrats hate you. Don’t know why you keep voting for them.

Yu-Ching Pai would have been a much better choice.
Look at David Carr Rep-Asian, he won and is doing a great job in District 50

Hey it's hilarious that you think anyone has rights.

Thank you, @Joe, for pointing out how the Sheeple should react to this.
I was just about to go on a rant about how these streets are un-walkable, due to corrupt DemoRats.
Now I can go on a rant about how making the streets walkable is all because of corrupt DemoRats.

Wokeness is a self-inflicted wound that is destroying America from the inside. It's no wonder the Demonrats love to preach it like it's gospel.

"GESATPO Democrat's"

Yep, Destroy, Change, Erase every dam thing they don't like, This by any means possible.
People in this state need to pass a literacy test on civics before being allowed to vote.
Look how all these progressive lawmakers got into Albany.
Bail reform, Police reform that has caused this disaster

1/2 of voters don't have a clue about the branches of government and process "tree" on how laws are created, passed and last enacted buy the governors pen.
A state law VS a local law
They don't know who controls what and how the process works, they just vote democrat or preferable black or Hispanic democrat.
People in this state need to pass a literacy test on civics before being allowed to vote.

What ever happened to the old Karagunes hot dog cart by the subway?

Anonymous said...

Ignorant voters? Guess who? While 92% of immigrants pass the citizen test at once, degos can't. And they can't deal with any sentient language, not even English. Guess who really needs to learn English? Accented foreigners are better at grammar than those born here.

Another communist trying to enforce regulation on small business owners and independent operators. Take a hike to Beijing, ya commie!

I'd rather eat gas station sushi then shop in Flushing !

What is it they deserve? Sidewalks crowded with vendors? Or politicians cracking down on sidewalk vendors ?
I presume, like most Trumpanzees, you'll take both sides of the argument to suit your agenda.

@"Soviet style inforcement !"

That should keep MeatBallRon and the Putinists very happy.

@"Free Jacob Chansley"

Why? Because he's a traitor? Because he was part of a mob who tried to overturn democracy?
Because he was part of a mob who murdered cops ?

Typical soft on crime Trump Turd!

First off that particular car would be a Hemi Cuda and its 780 Horsepower, It was only there once hired for a filming with Anthony Burdaine. I do lots of props, old radios, for TV series, "City On A Hill" was especially.
The only Ford I owned was a 96 Thunderbird, cheap thin tin, uni-body smog motor piece of shit was sold 3 years ago.----I will never buy a modern built vehicle ever again, they cant do electronics and metal right. 15 sensors, 2 air flow meters a ECU computer and 2 catalytic converters to make a 5.3 liter V8 engine run, and only get 140 Horsepower at the wheels?
Screw that !!

2nd:
Its $16 for 6 sets (as in 12 sox) and that includes a couple work Ts
Do the math:
16÷12 = $1.33 each on the sox.
I use Zoey's 22MPG Celica GT for Main Street traffic, pull under the LIRR trestle, the lady brings to the car I hand cash and Im done and gone in 30 seconds.
I call it "drive by shopping" its very economical on gas and pollution, np problems, parking issues, no one should be complaining.

This is a perfect example how the political Woke, young college shits like to switch narrative around so they can argue discredit, slosh, grandstand, whatever.
The Woke are destroying this country, look how the Hollywood Woke erased actor Paul Sorvin from acadamy award of arts and sciences. Im told not even a 1 second photo of those who died this year segment.
It seems if your not on board with or vote anything WOKE the democrats will do anything they can to get you ERASED !!
And this is whats happening to these Asians.

I don't see mayor Adams, DA Bragg, police commissioner nor one dam city official going after those black people selling bongs, dope, bags of coke, smack, 3 card Monte, counterfeit theater tickets, resell government issued welfare metro cards in broad daylight Times Square.
Those bastards actually wave bags of dope at the police and laugh at them."come and get it"
I seen it, and its beyond worse then I ever expected under this Adams family nightmare.

Ah yes, Anthony Bourdain, another one of those tiresome 'real' New Yawkers like Joe, who grew up in the 'gritty 70's', and in between multiple shots of Jim Beam, constantly tell us 'fake trust fund transplants from Iowa' how 1970's Time Square (as depicted in DeNiro's Taxi Driver) was much more real than the mega corporation/consumerist 2020's Costco/Walmart hellhole that we're living in now.

Well, Bourdain is now residing in Dante's Seventh Circle, Ring 2 of Hell, where it's always hot, but it's authentic, gritty, and real.

We're being controlled by millions of Chicken Little's.

Eric “Swagger Man with No Plan” Adams needs to help her.

Joe said...

Bourdain was a good guy.
Never seen him drink Jim Beam and his lower east side drug problems were not seeded in New York City. You been misinformed.
One needs to look toward a liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Followed by a second shithole at the time called Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Then cooking for summer cesspool of rich weirdos and drug dealers before the Hampton's and downtown Brooklyn became fashionable.
The service industry in Provincetown literally lived in squalor back then just like you see in parts of Montauk, Springs and South Hampton today.
20 people living in run down 2 bedroom sandy rotting bungalows with bed sheets an tin foil on the windows, overflowing cesspools, toilet seats on buckets, and latrine's holes of raw sewage out back.
Vomit all over the streets after 4AM
Montauk, Hamptons, Greenport, Southampton, Springs, Great Neck pay $35K in annual, town, county, municipal, police taxes to share your neighborhood and street with mostly illegal Hispanics and squatters from Ireland who work for $5 hour + tips.
The restaurant owners refer to them as "summer Irish students on internship having fun" That's what cheap restaurant and construction industry labor eventually gets you, and trust me, this same squatter and latrine trench stuff is coming to the shit we already have.

Worries about street vending, some 70 year old Chinese lady selling trinkets & sun glasses?
The NYC Mayor, Alvin Bragg and Albany lawmakers are who belong in hell because they are actually killing innocent people with their liberal, woke, racist anti middle class policy's.
That's deliberate murder by culling citizens of the law and order these bastards swore to protect.

Long Island is no better especially out on the Eastern Forks always depicted as "paradise" in that colorful print media and real estate booklets.
Out East the politicians, judges and police in Suffolk County are far worse and more corrupt then what NYC has because their family's own most the Motels, Winery's, Bars, Restaurants, Farms and big cookie cutter developments and Newspapers like the famous "Dan's liberal rag of lies" F_ck the even own and control the marinas and mooring permits, you cant even have a boat in the water overnight without knowing somebody and paying the right payola middle person.
Many NYC people don't know how good they have it.
