Cops to cover graffiti in certain areas

From CBS New York:

Black, red, and white. Those are the colors of spray paint that the NYPD will reportedly be using to cover up graffiti in the city.

It’s all part of the department’s new graffiti fighting program, the New York Post reported.

Some New Yorkers have already questioned the policy.

The Post said that officers have been instructed to spray over any graffiti tags, especially those found in areas like Bushwick, Brownsville, and Bed Stuy.

So instead of catching criminals, they will be painting? Nice to know my tax dollars are being spent the right way! How about we also pay for them to take up art classes too?

Can this city find anymore ways to waste money and time?

Who the fuck is in charge?

How are they suppose to keep paint off their uniform? Spray paint fumes can make you dizzy. Dizzy on high speed Chases and handling a gun.

A better plan would be to have a civilian graffitti crew with an a police officer on board for protection in dangerous areas.

Anon No. 1:

Someone has to do it. Graffiti breeds more graffiti if it's not eliminated.

Our precinct organizes graffiti cleanups once a month or so, but they don't walk around covering spray paint while on patrol.

is the onion becoming reality, because this should be made up.

Can't any cops take a stand?Or do they get lobotomies after they get the shield and gun?Wake up finest.

Oh,and Bratton is in charge, and in 5 months he won't be.

Call Spider-Man. He is the only one who can save us at this point..

Why not have the cops report graffiti via a camera (with GPS location). Then have some of the lesser offenders at Rikers Island earn a shorter sentence by cleaning up this mess.
Saves money all around. But, alas, the unions in NYC would never put up with it.

Sounds like someone cut the PBA's balls off. Patrol officers literally just became nothing more than janitors with guns.

And that ass wipe of a "newspaper" calling itself "The Courier" gives the fame they crave to graffiti vandals by publishing their tags in their "wall of shame".

I once called the editor on this...alerting him that you are spreading the vandals' fame by publishing the examples. He shrugged me off and said it was "effective".

See...now even the cops know that the best strategy for discouraging these punks is to eradicate their tags.

Hello Vicki? RU awake?

This is so stupid. They crimminals will be smarter. They will carry spray paint too, or silent markers. Now they will cover an area in graffitti as a deversion to bogg down the police. The police will be painting the mailbox while the crimminal is holding up the post office. Painting a house while your house is being robbed. Painting a cell tower while someone is getting mugged and phone stolen.....This is how Rome fell.
