Crappy diner closes

"The Mark Twain Diner on Northern Blvd in Jackson Heights has closed. A new diner called Jax Inn will open in its place. I see nothing about it in any paper or article. It was a crappy diner which I almost never went to." - Steve

All the dinners in Queens are crappy. They all cater to little jewish old ladies who want their salmon fillets or lox sandwiches.

GET WITH THE TIMES or go out of business.

it had seen better days. i remember when it was one of many and a good one at that.
hopefully, the new one will fill a void in the neighborhood. without a car Jackson Hole and Buccaneer are not convenient alternatives.

Once had a bad experience there but generally thought the place top rated.

"This is blasphemy, we're losing the neighborhood. Save the diner even though I probably haven't given them any business in 20 years. It's up to the rest of you to do it, not me. You need to save it now"

Sorry, comments was missing something.

I don't think anyone is thinking that. One business is taking over for another. Not a big deal. It happens all the time. It's when familiar landmarks are torn down for something undeniably inferior that there is an outcry or when businesses are forced to close by greedy landlords who would rather have a box store there.

an old boyfriend bought me a piece of lemon meringue pie there and proceeded to regale me with a story about a childhood vacation with his n'er-do-well father.

despite that dreary association, save the diner or else it's a choice between Taco Bell or Wendys.

So are fast food establishments a step below a diner?

Diner on Atlantic Ave and 112 street in Richmond Hill is being rebuild. It will soon be part of a strip mall at that location. Hopefully RH will get some much needed Quality retail stores and Quality eateries as it is very lacking in both.

There is also a contruction site on the corner of Hillside and Lefferts which promises to be retail space but is at this point a hole in the ground. It is next to the old Republican Club.

A good diner can succeed in that location. Mark Twain wasn't good enough. I hope the new owners do a thorough renovation.

The iHop across the street must be dancing right now.

The only time I ever went to this diner was when IHOP was too packed. My theory is that Mark Twain's sole source of customers was people who didn't feel like waiting an hour to get a table at IHOP.

Glad it is gone. Hopefully what replaces it will be better. The last time I went there I got a bread basket infested with mouse poop. Doesn't get worse than that.

The new owners own another diner in the city I went there a couple of times. Extremely clean and top quality food! I am sure that Jax Inn will turn out to be an amazing diner with great food.

I think you meant "you're new to the neighborhood"not "your new to the neighborhood. Also, Diner is spelled with one N, not two.
