Will the pigs return to the park?

From the Times Ledger:

Last year a family day at Brookville Park turned into an out-of-control bash where liquor was sold and litter was spread all over the southeast Queens greenspace.

An advocate for the park is calling on the city to not let that happen again this year.

Fred Kress, president of the Queens Coalition for Parks, sent a letter to the city Parks Department asking it not to allow party promoter June Balloon to hold his fourth-annual family day at the park this Saturday. Last year’s celebration, which was co-hosted by state Assemblywoman Michelle Titus (D-Far Rockaway) and Jacques Leandre, who was running for City Council last year, left the park in a state of disarray with crews picking up trash for hours the day afterward.

“I expect Parks to protect our parks from animals — both two- and four-legged,” Kress wrote in his letter.

This year’s celebration, which is not sponsored by Titus and Leandre, was advertised on the social networking website Facebook and had dozens of people invited. The flier included on the Facebook page said there would be musical performances, food, games and face painting for children.

This was not the fun that took place during last year’s picnic Aug. 22.

Someone set up a table that advertised “open bar, ladies only” and sold alcohol to parkgoers. The party went on long after its 7 p.m. closing time, and when the parks manager went to the greenspace the next morning, it was filled with empty bottles, discarded food and sexually explicit pamphlets.

Kress and other advocates arrived at the park to see the damage firsthand and saw Balloon and Titus’ husband, Eric DeBerry, arguing with the parks manager, saying they did nothing wrong.

Leandre said he is not involved with this year’s picnic and will not be attending it because he will be out of town with his youth football group, the Rosedale Jets. Titus’ office did not return phone calls for comment and June Balloon could not be reached for comment.

Although the Parks Department refused to grant a permit for the party as of press time Tuesday, fliers were still going up in the neighborhood, according to Kress.

Have you taken a walk in Flushing Meadows Park this past summer? People camp out with elaborate tarps creating tent complexes, usually next to water fountains that are used for bathing etc.

It's a little like being in soccer camp except there are adults with a coterie of children and others making children.

Cooking is the central activity other than the children and there seems to be a profit center in it as unrelated people are drawn to it - perhaps for the servica after playing in a soccer tournament.

Who is your source? anyway the people of Rosedale can have their side of the story stated? The title on this article is very offensive as an attendee of all RosedaleDay events your calling ME a "PIG" and would appreciate you stop offending me and all the otherthousands tax payers from the queens area who attend this event.

Funny that you should assume the word "pig" refers to you. It refers to whoever did this to the park. Were you one of them?

I was their, I attend every year I can give the view of everyone their and thats all you have to say? I guessd what they say is true "Journalism is dead" they let an idoit have a say now. I see the kind of people who backs fred Kress and who ever else is spreading this negativity.

I'm not a journalist. I posted an excerpt from a news article. If you don't like the content of said article, I suggest writing a letter to the editor of the Times Ledger.

What is interesting is that this article was re-posted in the 1st place.
Fred Kress referred to the park goers as two & four legged animals. So its safe to say that whoever would repost such a thing must feel the same about the residents of Rosedale. Now to my understanding, there was miscommunication regarding who cleans the park after the event since there is a non-refundable deposit left with the park if the trash isn't cleaned up after the event. So to all the "negative Nancy's" that wanted to see an end to this community event, sorry but this year was very successful thanks to the communication between the parks department and the event organizers. YES you read that RIGHT! Successful! No trash! No so-called naked flyers! No alcohol! Wow I know it seems surprising! But not as surprising that writers & "re-posters" like to spread negativity before positively.
Repost That!

Now as far as the TITLE of this post....I can only laugh at the Queens Crapper!

Why was this allowed to go on last year? And this article is likely the reason there was no trash this year. That's reason enough to repost it. Once again, you should only be offended if you are one of the pigs.

We ALL know who's the real "PIG", no need to Quarrel about that!

PIGS can’t give school supplies to kids, PIGS can't pay for free ent for the kids, a PIG can’t feed the kids unless it cooks its self..this is what really goes on @Rosedale Day, the trash you can find that on any given weekend as we have plenty of people outside the community that utilizes that park for events just as big or bigger but since the 2009 Rosedale had Politicians involved they choose to single out our day but let everyone else from outside the community to have events unsupervised ~ Also the Times Ledger did not have it titled as “WILL THE PIGS RETURN TO THE PARK” so that is your own thoughts which to awards the title of an IDIOT.

Why was the trash not properly disposed of at last years gathering? Don't give me the BS of we left a deposit. It is called cleaning up after ones self.

And Yeah, if you were there you were one of the pigs. Why?...cause even if you didn't litter you stood by and watched the other piggies litter away and said nothing to the organizers.

As Crapper pointed out....if not for the news item the same crap most likely would have went on again this year.

So tell your BS story to the hand!

Just so the Crapper knows no one in ROSEDALE read your articles on this I'm giving you some traffic today be thnakful!.. you to make the remark about this article is the reason the park was clean makes you and IDIOT also, the fact is NO ONE CAN STOP THE COMMUNITY OR ROSEDALE DAY THE END!

Reminds me of the article in the Times of last year. How hikers going up Mt. Whitney - the highest mountain in California - now have to carry "wag bags", issued by the rangers. There used to be an outhouse on the summit but the state couldn't afford to clean it out anymore. Soooo, you have to wag in the bag and then carry it back down the mountain for disposal. The slobs in Rosedale can't dispose of a paper plate and an aluminum can properly?
