Claire knew what she was doing

From the Times Ledger:

Developer influenced City Council to vote for mayor’s Willets Pt. plan

"Shulman met with Daniel Doctoroff, who was then a deputy to Bloomberg, and agreed to help the mayor with regard to his Willets Point plan. Shulman and Doctoroff are seasoned professionals and cannot be heard to say they were ignorant of the law. But in violation of the law, they arranged a contribution to Shulman’s group of a large amount of city funds and of which the group spent about $450,000 on lobbying, including City Council members whose votes were necessary for the Willets Pointproposal to proceed (“Biz group says Willets Point plan is invalid,” Flushing Times, Aug. 27.)"

As I understand it, Shulman’s local development corporation certificate of incorporation stated the LDC shall not attempt to influence legislation which is a reiteration of the applicable law. The certificate was signed by Shulman. The lobbying of Council members and, to make matters worse, use of city funds to do so was no oversight.

Given the fact we are talking about the destruction of the majority of the 225 economically viable businesses in Willets Point and their thousands of employees and families, the purported violation is not a trivial matter. It warrants a full investigation by the office of state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and, if a violation is found to have occurred, the Council vote must be nullified.

Bloomberg’s attempts to slough off the actions of Shulman and claims that he doubts the law was broken and a “cheap shot” was being taken at Shulman is nonsense. He is making the cheap shots. As head of the LDC, Shulman was not acting as a purported dedicated public servant but as the well-paid head of that group.

It may come as a surprise to Bloomberg and Shulman, but the last I heard the rule of law applies not just to ordinary citizens but to seasoned politicians as well.

When politicians act on matters of importance such as Willets Point, it is after much public debate and opposition.

The opposition consists of advice from many quarters as to why the action is wrong and/or illegal.

Therefore, I believe that the penalty for persisting in the violation must be total and frightening enough to deter other politicians from also violating laws.

Isn't the purpose of a penalty to deter others from committing the same crime?

Dump this criminal, and then jail and bankrupt her.

Yeah, right these folks are incestuious and need each other or owe each other big time from the past, present and future. The corrupt cycle chain cannot be broken unless a body or 2 rears it's head.

Those "225 economically viable businesses in Willets Point and their thousands of employees and families" didn't play the game and buy off enough Democrat-connected lobbyists to make it a contest. It you don't pay, you don't play. This is what becoming a single party city and state has yielded.

BRING IN THE FEDS ALREADY!!!

I'm betting that notwithstanding this scurrilous behavior, Madame Borough President will slide into an easy re-election. The public be damned.

This incident cries out for a Federal Investigation. If everything adds up and the crime was committed, Ms. Schulman should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Should Cuomo investigate, there would only be a slap on the wrist because all NY Democrats stick together and cover each other's asses. Call in the Feds, Investigate and if need be, prosecute so that the next politician will think twice before he/she does the same thing.

She hasn't been borough president for 8 years.

I'm in full agreement.

Bring in the feds to ensure a really thorough investigation!

Perhaps justice will also finally be served in the matter of the RKO Keith's Flushing Theater.

It's most likely that Shulman and boss Manes' complicity resulted in the destruction by criminal developer Tommy Huang of this historic landmark.

Who knows what familiar old and new "fish" might get caught when a federal dragnet gets pulled out of the waters.

There are many out there who believe that plenty of the old players involved with scuttling the Keith's are still around and quite possibly connected to this sordid Willets Point business.

Old shady politicians never die...they just get reshuffled to fill new positions but it's still the same deck of cards that's in use on the gaming table.

Dan Doctoroff still retains enormous power and like the ace of spades he always seems to pop up.

And he's been NYC's "death card" for decades!

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!

Claire and Danny conspired to push forward Wellington Chen's plan. Asshole Mike heard "development" and just went along for the ride.

I've admired Ben Haber since he defeated Donald Manes and the Grand Prix around Flushing Meadows. He's right on target again.

Claire's group must have received alot of $$$ from Wellington Chen's organizations. She knew exactly what she was doing, they all did!

The whole situation warrants investigation on the Federal, State and local levels.

Check out this load of crap:

The gang is back together!

The LDC's website is a joke. Here's the link from their site to the Flushing Chamber of Commerce:

Wrong city! Wrong state! Way to go Claire!!!

Can't wait till they measure this old bag for an orange jump suit. She should be locked up and made an example of. Until these politicians get more than a slap on the wrist, this criminal behavior will continue. Prosecute them all and give them the max.

Don't just keep your eye on the principal players covered by the spotlight.

Maybe it's the inscrutable ones in the wings, like Wellington Chen, that need some real scoping.

I'm sure that Gary Ackerman knows about all of the pols connections to the far east including his own.

Wasn't there a trip to Taiwan in the early 1980s attended by the who's who of local Queens politics....CB#7 members too!

Just WHY was that necessary?

Yes, the junket was organied by Eddie Chan, a notorious Chinese underworld figue. Whores and drugs were provided for the delegation of elected officials, business and "community" leaders.

What was the point? Catch 'em with thier pants down! What better way of control and manipulation, if not blackmail, can there be?
