Developer turns LIC home into hellhole

From the Daily News:

Kenny Greenberg and Diane Hendry have been living in a broken home for years - and dealing with broken promises from a developer they say destroyed their Long Island City house.

The couple's two-story townhouse was severely damaged between 2006 and 2008 when Casa Vizcaya, a five-story condominium, was built alongside it on 46th Road.

The condo developer agreed to fix their home, but now the repairs have stalled and they're living in a dangerous and active construction site, the couple said.

"It's been almost three years since our house was literally cracked in half by East View Construction," said Hendry, an artist. "Every day, I'm exhausted by this ordeal."

The damage described by the couple reads like a homeowner's worst nightmare: bulging walls, floor-to-ceiling cracks, leaking water and the entire basement floor split in half.

Not sure if the side of the development pictured is Kenny's side, but it is worth pointing out that it's on the same block that the Hunters Point house hole is on.

Damn shame what Burden did there.

They should count themselves lucky that they didn't take down the whole house as happened with a home on 18th Street and Astoria Boulvard in Astoria.

A beautiful pile of rubble has replaced the green home the inhabitants fled from within hours of the construction "accident."

Conveniently located not far from the Astoria father's day fire which killed three firemen, and the new luxury building which has a larger version of the highly-flammable hardware store underneath.

Come for the tour!

Ceiling on your head lady, you are like a broken record.

The same thing over and over again.

You going to work to change things?

Doubt it.

After extolling the virtures of Astoria's own Gioia, Gianaris, your street cred in this part of town is fairly low.

Look at the comments on Dutch Kills and Astoria above.

Do we see a pattern?

Where is the preservation community?

Oh yes, if its not a problem in Brooklyn Heights, its not a problem.

Collecting $250 membership dues to fund efforts to expand their historic districts.

Assholes.

Well, so far, I've spoken to the DA's office, police, internal affairs, attorney general, assemblyman, FDNY, council man. Started a website for a class project. Told everyone I met, voted against these people, told my neighbors to vote against this people and bugged the hell out of you.

What will you be doing when the wrecking ball comes through your front window or the building next door topples down on you.

Why are you so certain you are safe?

By the way, I've never stood up for Gioa because I have had no dealings with him. The only one who helped me was Gianarris, so don't put words into my mouth.

Any questions as to the state of civic life in western Queens????

I'm not interested in street cred, but the truth ,because I am not some rapper or rock star.

Don't think you can't be buried under rubble yourself someday like so many of your neighbors.

By the way, the Teflon Don who is in my sights is that darling man who put 40 stitches in a woman's eye.

He tried to have my downstairs neighbors put in a nuthouse and he tried the same on me, but all 3 of us are walking around and we will outlast all of these bastards.

The Board of Elections has a nice report that tells you how much and who contributes to every one's campaign.

Make sure you tell the supports of these hoodlums that you know who they are and are organizing a boycott of their businesses.

This is becoming a commonplace story. At almost every turn the Department of Buildings does everything to avoid helping the small owners. At the same time buildings with multiple violations keep going to completion.

The Casa Vizcaya developers have started their next project, The Orient, in Astoria while leaving misery in their wake.

And they are serious violations too, not mere technicalities. By the way, that doesn't include the violations that disappear when the envelopes are handed out.

We need to turn them all out on their ears, if only to honor the old adage that the new broom sweeps clean.

Except Gioia's district ends on the south side of 34 Ave; he is LIC and Sunnyside in CB2.

The Astoria council member "ceiling" lady would have contacted is Vallone.

Gioia's district includes part of Astoria in zip code 11106. His own council website says he represents Woodside, Sunnyside, Long Island City, Astoria, and Maspeth.
