Quinn, Council to stab Crowley in the back

Bucking the tradition of the City Council voting to back up the local council member on an issue, Council Speaker Christine Quinn has told her puppet colleagues to vote yes to the Maspeth high school and they will shoot down Crowley's anticipated no vote first at the 9:30am Land Use Committee today and then at the full Council. I guess during an election year, the support of Bloomberg and the UFT is more important to third termers than the quality-of-life of constituents. What do they care? It's not their neighborhood.

This is also an amazing show of no confidence in the freshman council member from district 30. But Dizzy Lizzy probably doesn't care. Let's remember that "Schools First" was her special election platform. Unfortunately this won't be a school that puts Maspeth, Middle Village and Elmhurst kids first.

What about the unnecessary use of eminent domain at this site when there are other more suitable sites available where the owners have never even been made an offer? Since a small business and not a developer owns this land, it's therefore not of concern to the Council.

You are all a bunch of pigs and must be shown the door come November.

What a bumbled post. Does it mean that Crowley will vote for the HS?Dont know why QC likes to shut out potential supporters by clouding the languague surrounding the issue.

I have leartned thus far from here, that friends from the same cause, get insulted from the beginning.

Queens Crapper said...

No it means Crowley will vote against it because it is not priority zoned for local students.

As for the rest of what you wrote, you are the one "bumbling". I have no idea what you are talking about.

This was a setup. It makes Crowley look good to the neighborhood and the council looks good to the Mayor. The hearing on Tuesday was a sham, many of the council members didn't even stay at the hearing for 5 minutes. I am totally disgusted with the way things work in this city and am more motivated than ever to work for whoever runs against Crowley and Bloomberg.

yes it is a sham, they have the votes so it makes crowley look good. Also John Liu is a dirtbag, who insulted me and has no respect for the resident. He belongs in jail with his dad found guilty of bank fraudl

I cannot belive that living in AMERICA you can have your property just taken away at what they think is FAIR value. everyone should flood the office of CHRISTINE QUINN AND DEMAND TO BE HEARD. WELL THANKS LIZ FOR SELLING OUT ON OUR TOWN. YOU DID NOT STAND UP TO MR. BARRON WHEN HE YELLED OUT THAT WE WERE RACIST AND THE YOU DIDN'T RESPOND TO THAT BITCH MARGE WHEN SHE CALLED US RACIST. MAKES ME SICK KNOWING I VOTED FOR YOU AND I KNOW AND I HOPE EVERYONE FOLLOWS, NOT TO VOTE FOR YOU AGAIN. WE NEED SOMEONE WHO IS TRULY FOR THE PEOPLE AND THE TOWNS SHE CLAIMS TO CARE FOR. GIVING US A SCHOOL IS NOT CARING AND IF YOU THINK BY VOTING NO IS GOING TO SAVE YOU ASS, NOPE IT WON'T, PEOPLE SEE RIGHT THROUGH THIS. NOT STANDING UP FOR US AT THE MEETING IS THE SHOVEL TO START DIGGING OUT YOUR GRAVE. TOTALLY UPSET AND I WOULD THINK SHE WOULD BE BEGGING CHRISTINE QUINN TO VOTE NO TODAY. SICKING THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

Don't worry about Quinn dissing Crowley - that will never happen.

A deal was cut and she will be rewarded aplenty for selling her community down the river.

Never trust a politican.

Taking a stand to ease traffic congestion, improve environmental quality, and fund mass transit through passage of a traffic congestion pricing plan in the City Council. outside of Manhattan.

this is from christine quinn's bio on her web page. well how is she helping maspeth community? the sca is impacting our community with yet another school, and i haven't seen or heard anything in regards to our transit problem that we tried explaining to the city council. we cannot bus in over 1000 students, we don't have enough buses to bring the children from all over the city to. quailty of life! out the window now, the little we had left is now gone. it really saddens me to think now i have to make the choice to move after being here for so long. but i guess with change so does moving.

I'M SO DONE WITH EVERYONE, THEY ALL LIE AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED. ALL I CAN SAY LETS FIND SOMEONE WHO'S NOT A CROWLEY AND WHO WILL KEEP THERE WORD ABOUT BEING FOR THE COMMUNITY. SHE DIDN'T EVEN STAND UP TO MR BARRON OR MARGE WHEN THEY BOTH CALLED MASPETH , MIDDLE VILLAGE AND GLENDALE A BUNCH OF RACIST. WELL I KNOW I'M NOT NOR ARE MY CHILDREN. I WOULD CHALLEGE THAT RACIST PIG BARRON TO COME TO MASPETH AND SEE FOR HIMSELF THAT WE ARE A MIXED COMMUNITY OF ALL RACES, HE'S THE RACIST PIG, OH BY THE WAY MR. BARRON THIS WHITE BITCH WON'T LET YOU SLAP HER AROUND, AS YOU STATED IN THE PAST ABOUT THE WHITE FOLKS.......

What's Crowley doing posing for a photo with Quinn?

Is there something she's trying to tell us?

Liz Crowley is an idiot and has the IQ of a pencil. She knew all along that the Board of Ed doesn't make allowances for neighborhood children to go to their neighborhood schools. Public Schools are open to the public. If it is built, all taxpayers (and illegal aliens) have the right to go to the school. Someone wants that school built badly and I'm sure there is an under the table deal in all this. I smell a kick-back. I knew all along that Crowley would appear to be for her constituents, but would go along with her cronies in the City Council. She's a liar and an idiot. It's time to get together and come up with a candidate for City Council that will stand up for us. The clock is ticking! It's a shame that city government wants to ruin our town. For what purpose?

Anonymous said...

In one breath, you say that Quinn and the Council will "stab Crowley in the back." In the other breath, you still say that Crowley's to blame for this anyway. You can complain all you want about why she's voting against the plan-- the bottom line is that Crowley is still voting against the plan, the very thing you wanted her to do in the first place. And, by the way, she's doing so over the collective dead bodies of the rest of the City Council and Bloomberg, which is what you implied in this post anyway. For the way that Quinn and Bloomberg and the rest of the "tweeders" are despised at this blog, I'd figure you'd throw a few points at Crowley for standing up to them, just like you do for Avella whenever he stands up to Quinn and Bloomberg. It seems as if nothing will ever satisfy you people.

Queens Crapper said...

"the bottom line is that Crowley is still voting against the plan"

No, the bottom line is that we are getting a high school despite Liz Crowley voting no. She did not effectively rally the council to her side because she used a lame argument that it should be priority zoned when no other council member currently gets that privilege in their neighborhoods.

It's very easy to vote no. Getting others to do so is the true test of a leader.

HA HA HA HA!!!! You don't think Crowley set this up so that she comes out looking like a winner vs. the big bad council who fucked us?

Tweeder in the extreme. It's in her blood.

I'm sorry. What was I thinking? You guys have it all figured out. You know everything. Have I stroked your ego enough?

If Liz Crowley had focused on traffic and transit issues to fight this school, it would have been relocated. Instead she chose to play both sides of the issue. Now we will have a school that will destroy what little peace there is left and our kids will not even get into it. Thanks a lot.

Now, now. This plan started under Dennis Gallagher back in 2007. He knew all about it and pushed it forward. It would never have gotten as far as it did had he not told SCA he would support it. His wife's construction business that she co-owned with Serf's son-in-law was getting contracts with SCA (conflict of interest, no?) and he thought he was going to be term limited out so he didn't care if it was built. While Liz didn't handle this situation appropriately, she inherited it from Gallagher and Como.

Liz Crowley and her staff should really keep their opinions of this site. Nothing you can come up with will convience me to vote for this women in the future, just based on the fact she did not stand up to that racist pig Barron and Marge. Our towns were called racist and i found that to be so insulting. Ms Crowley brought this all on by herself and I don't give a flying crap if it was left to her. She pushed for local H.S. knowing it would never pass. Now we are stuck with the H.S. and nothing will be done to add more buses to Grand Avenue. Her seat is coming up vote her ass out.

If its not racism, then what's the problem with allowing other people to use the school? I'm confused many here have proposed using ED to build hospitals and schools instead of residential, but when you do exactly that this is the result.

Queens Crapper said...

The students at PS58 are only 30% white. At IS73 it's even less. So why is race even coming up?

Because the allegation is that Maspeth does not want another 30% white school in its midsts.

Anonymous said...

Oh this is interesting. Crappy I think you are right and have been all along. And i sense a revolution is brewing here in Q and maybe other boroughs. I will vote for the candidate who has a simple platform, one that includes a return to home rule: neighborhoods must have a say, local boards strengthened, agencies to serve communities, and govt. decentralized out of lower Manhattan. Potential (new) candidates take note!

This topic has NOTHING to do with race. It's an OVERSATURATION problem. There are too many schools in too small an area. This creates a transportation problem, since there are only 2 buses (58&59). Stop & Shop is down the block from the proposed site with only one way in and out. If the school is built, the traffic situation would be horrendous. The property isn't even up for sale. It is going to be TAKEN by EMINENT DOMAIN. Like I said -- Race has NOTHING to do with this issue. It's just the wrong site for the project. Build the High School where the old St. John's Hospital was. Plenty of transportation -- buses and subway and a parking lot for the teachers to park in. There == wasn't that simple?

Queens Crapper said...

"Because the allegation is that Maspeth does not want another 30% white school in its midsts."

And the allegation is stupid because if the "feeder schools" Crowley pushed for are only 30% white, then logic dictates that the high school will be as well.

LINDA said...

WOW, FIRST OF ALL IT'S ALL ABOUT LOCATION. WE ALREADY HAVE TWO PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE AREA, NOT EVEN COUNTING CATHOLIC, LUTHERAN, I BELIEVE IT COULD BE A TOTAL OF TEN SCHOOLS IN THE AREA. WE DON'T HAVE THE BUSES TO BRING IN MORE CHILDREN AND PARKING FOR THE TEACHERS WAS ALSO AN ISSUE. SCA WAS GIVEN ALTERNATIVE SITES AND ALL THEY DO IS LIE. NO ONE'S PROPERTY SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM, AT WHAT THE CITY FEELS "FAIR VALUE MARKET". IF YOU OWNED THE PROPERTY YOU WOULD FEEL THE SAME AND WOULD UNDERSTAND. THE CITY WILL PUT UP THE SCHOOL AND IT WON'T BE FOR THE LOCAL CHILDREN, WHICH I KNEW ALL ALONG. YES EVERY CHILD DESERVES TO ATTEND THEIR CHOICE OF H.S. BUT IT SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO TRANSIT. SCA KEEPS SAYING IT WILL HAVE TWO THEMES BUT NOT A MENTION ON WHAT THAT WILL BE, WHICH IS A JOKE. RACE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SCHOOL AND HERE IN MASPETH WE HAVE ALL RACES, SO MR. BARRON AND MARGE OF THE BIG SIX CAN TAKE THEIR RACIST REMARKS BACK HOME WITH YOU.

Where is Marge Markey in all of this? What is her position on the High School at this site? She was elected and just disappeared. Maybe she could address the powers that be and try to find the right solution to this problem. She is the reason why PS 58 was built. Where is she? Earth to Marge.....

Anonymous said...

CLAIRE SHULMAN OUR OLD QUEENS BORO PRESIDENT IS THE CAUSE OF P.S. 58. DON'T KNOW HOW MARGE MARKIE STOOD. I KNOW MARGE FROM BIG SIX WAS FIGHTING FOR PS 58 AND THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND BECAUSE SHE DOES NOT LIVE HERE AND HER CHILDREN ARE NOT ZONED FOR THE SCHOOL. ALSO MARGE FROM BIG SIX WAS OPPOSED TO STEVEN'S SITE WHEN SCA WANTED TO PUT A HIGH SCHOOL.

Anonymous said...

Marge Markey worked with Claire back in day and Marge wanted the school to be a k-3 school, which makes no sense. It was decided that it would be a k-5 and recently became a k-6. Wait until PS 58 is overcrowded and they put the trailers in the school yard. They will end up putting an addition on the school like they did at PS 229 and the school in Middle Village near Juniper. Oversaturation of schools and children who don't even live in this neighborhood, yet the residents pay high taxes to live here.

Council Member Elizabeth Crowley said...

Remarks by Council Member Elizabeth S. Crowley – As Prepared for the 2 April 2009 Stated Meeting on Land Use 1031 and Resolution 1913

I believe the HS proposal we’re voting on today still needs work. As a council member it has been difficult accepting and agreeing on the Dept of Education’s policies, but I must thank Speaker Quinn for her continued hard work and support as I have worked through the difficulties associated with this proposal.

And while I do not agree with Deputy Mayor Walcott and the Dept of Education policies moreover their reluctance to give priority zoning to those who live closest to the school I do thank Deputy Mayor Walcott for his and the department’s focus over the past month on the Maspeth HS project.

I’d like to also thank my colleagues in this body, your knowledge and advice has been invaluable and I am grateful for your support.

I am voting No. Let me clear, I want a school in Maspeth, but I cannot agree with this plan.

In an effort to alleviate the traffic and transit concerns raised by community I asked the Department of Education to compromise on a plan to allow this school to better address the needs and concerns of my community. They did not and as I result I do not support this plan.

As the plan stands now it does not have the approval of the community education council, it does not have the approval of the community board, it does not have the approval of the local civic association. It does not have the full support of local parents. It does not have the support of the local elected officials.

Please vote them all out of office -- especially our girl Lizzie.

No it's not ironic. This proposal first saw the light of day in 2007 when Dennis Gallagher was in office. Gallagher's wife co-owned a construction company with Serf Maltese's son-in-law and in her marketing material she boasted about her connections with SCA. Liz can take a part of the blame for this, but it was Gallagher who screwed Maspeth (as well as that granny in his office).
