Queens: yesterday's borough of death

From Gothamist:

The first horrible incident took place on the so-called Boulevard of Death—Queens Boulevard—in Forest Hills around 9 p.m. An unidentified woman in her mid-20s was hit by a car at the intersection and was pronounced DOA at Elmhurst Hospital; police tell CBS 2 they have no description of the vehicle.

And from WCBS880:

Police are searching for the person who gunned down two teenagers in Queens.

A 19-year-old was hit in the torso and died at the scene. A 17-year-old with a chest wound died an hour later.

Our wonderful crime-stopping mayor is doing a great job. How can this be?

Where is Heidi Chain and the 112 Precinct Community Council on this??? Her much tooted street crossing program was a bust, why doesn't SHE and her board cross people on Queens Boulevard, so she can send a "Chain Letter" to all the local papers?

At least she tried to do something. Isn't it better to try something and fail than to try nothing at all?

It was a political move, pure and simple.

If that's true then this, in my opinion, is the very root of all their problems in these bad neighborhoods. Babies having babies. No good ever comes out of that. Until they realize that having kids too young not only ruins their lives but their kid's schools will never improve, crime will always be a factor and they'll be in their rut forever.
Use some birth control! Dammit.

Not only was it a political move, but in the words of Master Yoda, do or do not there is not try.

Some news broadcasts are saying it was at Queens Blvd and 70 STREET (Woodside), and some are saying QB and 70 AVENUE (Forest Hills). Can't they ever get anything right when it comes to Queens?????

Hit and runs are right under sexual assault on the toplist of most disgusting crimes.

It happens wayyyy to often here in Queens.

Bloomy uses his big brother cameras to give you a ticket... but apparently not to bring justice to a family & neighborhood.

What was Commissar Death and Taxes doing while these and other city residents were being killed?

Out campaigning as Commissar Common Man?

Bet he'll never have any events along Queens Blvd. unless his personal security shuts down the Blvd. in all directions, all lanes, for the event.

Even then, the lickspittle media will point the cameras towards the sidewalks.

Unfortunately, the problems with Queens Boulevard stem from an outmoded mentality that favored cars over pedestrians. The same thinking decimated the Bronx and almost did the same to the Lower East Side.

The only thing I can recommend is using subway underpasses to cross this avenue wherever they are available.

That's a real stretch, even for you. It's amazing how bitter and spiteful people like yourself can be. I pity you; the way you sound, your life must really be horrible.

Here's a thought...look both ways before you cross the street. Sorry bloggers, can't blame this one the city.

...at least Liz Crowley is something to look at!

A seventeen and nineteen year old are dead. Probably gang related! The hit & run was in Woodside, my friend was there and heard all about it.

That's right! Avoid the question. Deflect attention. Call names.

Are you one of the Commissar's paid lickspittles?

I think we can ask good questions about the murder victims, but dying from traffic accidents is another matter.

We have the infrastructure that we have. There is very little we can do to improve Queens Boulevard beyond possibly building an extra ramp or two so people can cross overhead.

In the meantime, subways, where available are the way to go. Cross under the street.

Her much tooted (sic) street crossing program was a bust.

The Safe Streets crossing program was started at least 2 or 3 years ago - how is that a "political" move?

And, how do you judge it a "bust?" On what basis?

Easy to criticize while sitting on your tush and doing nothing. Also, it is apparently easy to ascribe a political motive to someone who has given of herself to the community heart and soul with no agenda but to help.
