Former ice cream factory full of lead

From Staten Island Advance:

After decades of drum-beating by community groups about potential lead contamination at the Staten Island site that for more than a century housed lead production companies and then became the now-demolished Sedutto's Ice Cream Factory -- the Environmental Protection Agency today confirmed levels of lead in the soil are up to ten times above acceptable standards.

The Sedutto site was owned by lead companies from 1839 to 1949.

Hey, it only took the Feds 60 years to figure out that a site once owned by lead companies might be contaminated with lead!

I hope i never purchased ice cream through this company. Didn't they relized when they took the property it may have lead considering it was ONCE A LEAD COMPANY? What the hell is wrong with the icecream factory owners. I don't believe you have to be that bright to figure this one out, oops unless you have brain damage due to lead....

And an Italian ice cream company at that. Lead worked out so well for the Romans.

The North Shore Waterfront Conservancy published a report on the danger of contamination based on prior use . Every elected official received this report over a year ago. The EPA had information on contamination since Dec 30, 2008 and has only recently started securing and warning residents. We also have a city owned park, Veteran's Park, around the corner with lead contamination. Whether it is directly related or NEW issue is undetermined. NYC Parks is starting additional testing, but has not fenced off the park yet! The park is ADJACENT to PS20 and across the street from a very busy library. NSWC members are pursuing this issue. There seems no connection to lead contamination when the ice cream factory was operational.
