BREAKING NEWS: St. Saviour's parsonage being demolished

The St. Saviour's parsonage is in the process of demolition, so say neighbors of the property. It was designed in 1849 by Richard Upjohn and was to be demolished anyway under the wonderful overdevelopment compromise brokered by Councilman Dennis Gallagher.

Well, boys and girls, its time to overturn the landmarks law. Its about time we all turn a new chapter in preservation.

The next time, lets make it available for all citizens, not just the privliedged.

I guess they got what they wanted and all the people got nothing!

CITY HALL wins again!

I thought government was for the people and not against the people?

What needs to be done is every single resident of Maspeth, Middle Village, etc. etc. go to City Hall and tell the assholes in office to do what the people say or we will forcefully take them out of office!!!

That's what the towns people of Sicily did agains the Mafia. The Mafia was killing off people and the residents got fed up with and marched against them in Sicily. All the people not just some...

The building that was torn down was built in the 70's. You guys are really in your own world, aren't you.

Anonymous said...

The building in the process of demolition was built in 1849 and the land it sits on was deeded over to the church in 1878.

Anonymous said...

Nice work Holden and Company! Instead of a compromise arrangement we all get nothing. When will you ever learn?

Anonymous said...

Alert the preservation community. Nio wait, they are celebrating so no one home today.

The Domino Sugar factory is landmarked.

You see, it is visible from Manhattan.

Anonymous said...

The parsonage would have gone under Gallagher's plan as well, so your point is asinine.

Anonymous said...

Yes, accepting overdevelopment in order to preserve a building reserved solely for the people in the new development would have been the way to go. NOT.

Anonymous said...

How can you make the statement that the church building would have been demolished even if the zoning change had gone through? All previous statements I have read on this matter in the Daily News and other publications, including statements from the developer itself, were contrary. You are just trying to deflect attention away from the fact that the only thing that would have saved the building was a residential development compromise.

Well, the original plan was to fix the exterior of the church and donate it to a not for profit. City Planning then demanded to know to whom it was going and wanted to see a budget to ensure that they could fix the building and run programs out of it. As this was causing additional delays we figured City Planning couldn't argue with us if we said we'd fix it and keep it for ourselves. Even after that they wanted additional assurances about the use of the building. So that's how we came to that decision.

So now it's not just that the building is preserved at my expense, but now I'm supposed to just hand it over. Take and take and take.... Hmmmm. I wonder why the application was pulled.

Anonymous said...

The only thing that will save the church building is if the city or a preservation group takes ownership. Otherwise, there will be an "accidental" fire, no doubt.

Anonymous said...

I hope Dennis Gallagher is proud of himself. Fucking community rapist.

Anonymous said...

If the original plan was to donate the building, then you would have willingly handed it over. So what's your point?

Anonymous said...

This was no mistake it was off the radar payola. Big $$ involved here it happens all the time.
Once the land is clear and the church gone there is nothing to fight over.

When all else fails have some suit on his way "out" create a mistake and "put out the fire"

Our community loses it's identity and character with St. Savior. What's next? Those folks in Manhattan would like nothing better.

Councilrapist Dennis P. Gallagher was already punished for chopping down the trees at St. Saviour's.

Watch what happens to him now that the parsonage is gone.

Well, the story now is that the contamination and possible presence of graves on the property do not hinder demo or development. Only if you are trying to get a zoning change. Doesn't this sound just a little bit strange? "Well there's some dangerous stuff in the soil. Oh, you mean you're going to release it all into the air but not build houses? Well then proceed at will." Ha!

Holden and the JPCA are going to try to deflect the blame for this fiasco away from themselves. Let them try. Everyone knows their all or nothing approach got all of us nothing.

Another defeat for the JPCA. And this time defeat for all of NYC.

When will the JPCA executive board ever learn that if you don't compromise, you will likely have nothing and dislike it?

Anonymous said...

What purpose does demolishing the parsonage serve? They aren't building anything yet.

Anonymous said...

at what point did gallagher and the developer sit down with holden and jpca to discuss the plans for this site? how could their approach have worked against them when the community board and neighborhood didn't know what the plans were in the first place and gallagher conducted business behind closed doors?

Anonymous said...

This is HILARIOUS. Dennis and company are going around saying that we have to learn to compromise? There was a compromise offered at the Keyspan site, if I remember correctly, it was to be a Home Depot and a 1 acre park. Gallagher didn't accept the compromise, fought alongside the community and everyone came out a winner. It seems that only when you settle for a compromise, as Gallagher tried to do here, that everyone loses. Councilman Dennis Gallagher: a lying rapist loser.

Anonymous said...

oh my god gallagher is as bad a lobbyist as he is a councilman.

Anonymous said...

How could the community compromise when the developer didn't make his plans public? What kind of stupid statement is that?

Anonymous said...

Moral of the story: never try to compromise with developers. They'll make you look like a royal asshole because they are money grubbing thieves.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Dennis can explain why his good friends are leaving their shit-filled dumpsters parked all over his district. Was that part of his "deal" with them?

Anonymous said...

Crappy, you should take a photo of this site now and put THE GALLAGHER LEGACY as the headline.

Anonymous said...

Blondie from Berkeley must be having an orgasm over this.

Anonymous said...

The Gallagher apologists can try to spin it however they like, but the truth is that in his zeal to destroy JPCA, Dennis Gallagher again hurt the community.

Shame.

Anonymous said...

Just like he called up the DOT and told them to put up a sign saying that Grand Ave was a truck route.

Anonymous said...

Isn't the JPCA trying to get trucks OFF of Grand?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, exactly. Pinky's sick, man.

A demolition & fence permit for the St. Saviour's site has been approved on November 28, 2007:

http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/PermitsInProcessIssuedByBinServlet?requestid=1&allbin=4059781

Hate hearing about the ruination of the parsonage, but I hope something can still be done to save St. Saviour's Church and its accompanying parcel of land. This is a tremendous stab in the back!

Anonymous said...

The truth is, if Gallgher had supported the city taking over the site for public use, it could have been done 18 months ago. What would he have to lose to lobbying the mayor's office for another park back in 2006? But he never tried, did he?

No, instead he lobbied for his developer and lobbyest buddies who line his pockets with campaign money. That's why he coincidently thought the park idea 'wasn't realistic' or 'would take too long'.

He insults the intelligence of his consituents with his transparent load of bullshit.

Even without a rape conviction, he's quite possibly the worst council rep in NYC history.

Now, lets demolish the indicted (10 counts) rapist of a grandma's time left in office.

Time to protest at 78-25 Met. Ave. Time to mail the turd letters demanding he resign. Time for letters to the editor. Time for collecting money for ads in the papers demanding he resign.

Goodbye, pink pig!

Anonymous said...

What is with the imaginary picture of the building on this post? It didn't look anything like that.

Anonymous said...

That lying scum bun of a pig rapist....
Gallagher had his way with the community.......
then he briefly paused
to have his way with a grandma......
after he caught his wind he's back
to screwing his constituents once again!

A firing squad would be to good for him.
(That suggested "hangman's noose" also) !

I'd put him in the hands of a grand inquisitor.

A few turns on the rack.....
a slow roast on a spit....
basted in his own rich red gravy.

I hesitate, in this holiday season
of peace and forgiveness to even conjure up
these kinds of thoughts.

But.....the Lord forgives.....alas, I can not!
(I have not reached that state of Grace yet.
I'm trying).

The Pit yawns for Gallagher's soul!

And I rest assured that the spirits
from the St. Saviour's burial ground
have stepped out of their graves
to curse all the perpetrators
of this desecration and destruction !

Anonymous said...

How does the community "compromise"
with a depraved and degenerate rapist?

"Would you please use a condom.....
be gentle..... and only partially penetrate me" !

Gallagher & Co. are just a bunch of sick,
vengeful pieces of crap!

I hope that there's some justice still left
in our judicial system
when that crooked pink SOB
finally comes up for his trial !

I'm going to make sure that I have
a good seat in the courtroom.

If he gets sentenced....I'm gonna lick my chops !
I wouldn't miss this for the world .

If the judge lets him off easy
there's always the Final Judgment.....
when Gabriel blows taps !

They cut down the trees, we will plant them.

They tear down the buildings, we will rebuild them.

No one. No one will stop the spirit of the American people.

Anonymous said...

American history destroyed by Israelis, from a country we helped create. Don't you love it?

Anonymous said...

No one seriously thinks you folks from Queens will touch landmarks, even if they tear the whole thing down.

People in Queens have a reputation as having no backbone and when its all said and done, just go home.

Anonymous said...

"American history destroyed by Israelis, from a country we helped create. Don't you love it?"

Racist, Paranoid, Assh*le!

Anonymous said...

>>American history destroyed by Israelis, from a country we helped create<<

WHEN THE ZOGS RULE THE END IS NEAR. That's why they been kicked out of every country on earth !!!

Anonymous said...

Nice to see the Archie Bunker anti-semites crawling out of the woodwork. The best that Queens has to offer. You're in nice company on the Crap hate blog.

Anonymous said...

And kicked out of every blog on earth too...

Well so long everybody. I can take a hint. Most of you were really cool. Guess it was time to be moving along anyway. Sigh.

Anonymous said...

What's the problem? Do you ever hear of Israelis knocking down synagogues and building cheap housing? No. But churches they enjoy destroying.

Anonymous said...

I can tell by the rhetorical way you write who you are, anonymous anti-semite, and it really amazes me that an obviously intelligent person like yourself would have such a biased way of thinking.

It just goes to show that intelligence and education really don't add up to much. What matters most is having a good heart and a proper respect for God and his creation.

If you've got those two things you'll be okay and will enjoy a happy and content life no matter if you be the poorest and most illiterate man or woman on Earth.

Give these matters some thought, why don't you. It's not too late to put your talents to work in making the world a better more hospitable place for "all."

Anonymous said...

I think you've offended an Israeli developer. Blog on!

Anonymous said...

Reading these comments, it makes me wonder if all the protests around this site are really motivated by anti-semitism? If a Christian developer offered to save the church and build houses around it, maybe you wouldn't be so upset.

Anonymous said...

That's the dumbest thing I have ever read. The site is historic and whoever knocked it down and built on it would be unloved.

Anonymous said...

Actually, the people here are discussing Israelis. Not all Israelis are Jewish.

faster340 said...

OMG all you friggin race baiters STFU!

Damn you are all a bunch of Al Sharptons!

This is about exploitation and over development in Queens and the lack of support from our government.

Grow the fuck up!

Oh cut the crap....
you Gallagher stooges who are posting here....
(Or maybe it's Dennis The Menace...himself).

This is strictly a HISTORIC issue.

Stop blowing smoke up our asses
by creating an UNFOUNDED & UNTRUE diversion!

Pulling out that tired old Anti Semitic card
from your vest is just a transparent subterfuge
on your part and doesn't fool us one bit!

Councilman Dennis Gallagher
is a common low life, corrupt, thieving rapist.....

PERIOD !

He BETRAYED his community
by making a $$$$ DEAL with a foreign"developer"
(who happens to be Israeli)
that's intent on destroying the community
that he himself lives in.

YOU DON'T get any LOWER than that.

Pinky will even sleep where he shits.

Even a pig knows better!

How does it feel
to be "loved" so well by your constituents?

Anonymous said...

What sad poetic justice that the parsonage now lies in a pile of ruin.... just like Dennis Gallagher's political career.
