Mr. Cunningham, tear down this wall!

From Fox 5:

You know the Berlin Wall, the Great Wall of China and now... the Bay Ridge Wall in Brooklyn? While it may not be as famous as the other walls, in one neighborhood it's famous enough.

Fox 5's John Deutzman investigates this story about one homeowner who built a huge concrete wall just two inches from his neighbor's house.

A battle over the homeowner's construction project has raged for two years. The man who built the wall, Robert Cunningham, has lost his appeal to allow his project to continue.

This is the link to the property. You'll notice 77 complaints...

My God. None of us are safe if this is allowed to happen. The entire City will be cinderblocked from property line to property line.

What is the big deal? - someone did this in Norwood Gardens (Landmark Application denied of course) - back in the 80s!

Remember, what happens in Astoria today will be in your backyard tomorrow.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Bloomberg's Department of Buildings.

I've always wondered how to egress my house without getting photographed by stalking news crews. I figured a paper bag with eye cut-outs over my head would be sufficient. But the umbrella route seems to be just as effective.

Go get em John!!! This guy shouldn't have been able to do this to his neighbor just out of common decency.

Although this has nothing to do with the post, I just felt that all of you here who read queens crap would be interested in an article i found on an independent web paper called "The Indypendent"
www.TheIndypendent.org. It has a great article about Little Ceasar buying the Mayor Election good reading at least I thought so.

If it were my home, I would have knocked the wall down as soon as I spotted it and before it grew to what is standing there now. I don't believe I have seen anything so ridiculous in my life...and we're talking over half a century!!!

What the hell kind of residential extension is the freakin' guy building that requires multiple steel I-beams for support...?

Holy crap...talk about shady!

From the looks of it, he's on his way to builing a skyscraper.

The guy should have kept quiet and placed one of those airbag jacks between his house and the wall at night for safety.
After all it was 2 inches from his window when the min buffer zone is 8 feet per story

If the wall fell building dept would be watching the place like hawks.

This Cunningham sounds like a real SOB mob like charactor who must have hordes of enemies.
It be a shame of sombody did a "blanket party" on him before it got sorted out.

Maybe we should revive the long forgotten custom of bricking up offenders behind walls.

Years later the wall can be bashed down to free the offender. His legs may be a little wobbly, and his eyes no longer used to the light, but that will all go away.

Maybe the offender will also go away!

I would have jacked this wall down then used the "Castle Doctrine" on Cunningham when he came running to my door.

The wall is as life threatening as it is illegal.

The way I see it.--Wooden house next door those side windows are emergency fire access & exits!
That’s one reason those houses must have 8 foot buffer zones on one side.

The city should be sued for mass negligence with the lives of those “bricked up” people next door.

Shame on Cunningham (if thats his real name) for acting like a Buk-Rah

Yea, you have to wonder why the complainant did not resort to a "little" self-help early.

-Joe said...

Why ?
Because there are too many SHEEPLE that truly believe they have representation or are afraid to say anything.

"Oh that can happen"
"The city and police will protect us"
"I'll get called a racist, hate blogger and loose my job"

--I heard every excuse in both both Ridgewood and WORSE Manhasset

“Change” starts slowly; People stick their heads in the sand and don’t want to believe it.
Then when a pallet bricks or cell tower crane shadows their skylite they wake up and ask "whats going on"

They are then LAMBCHOPS!!!
We have to many fat American asses sitting on sofas on meeting nights, elections more interested in watching "Fake American Idol" and FAKE realiety voyer garbage. (all those people on them shows have had IA cards and photos before they were cast BTW)

It may as all be "Lost In Space"
Im convinced if you feed people shit long enough they put blinders on and call it a meal.

The mayor and his people are betting on it.

fuck him, its Cunningham's property and he doing what he's allowed to do on his property. If the major asshole next door, loses his windows fuck him.
Go move to somewhere where your windows on on your own side yard and can't be blocked legally.

oh jesus...

would it be wrong to leave feces on his property?

If it were legal, the DOB wouldn't have shut him down, genius.

We had a contractor do this on 18th Street in Astoria. The adjoining buildings were damaged, the tenants left one property. Thousands of dollars in damage. Yesterday, I saw one of the affected owners cutting new windows in the opposite side of his building so he can rent again. How sick is that?

what his property line are you fucking kidding me? this guy past his property line you can't just go up to someone's property and put a brick wall and block his windows. i would of knock the shit down when he first started and called the damn cops made such a fucking scene. this bastard should have his balls cut off.

As always, there's more to the story. The wall didn't go up over night.

Those walls can go up pretty fast. The one on 18th Street in Astoria was well up in a matter of days, and it has stood in spite of lawsuits, DOB threats and general ugliness.

I clicked on the link and can't believe that the DOB has allowed these violations to exist for such a long time (some date back to 2006). Anyone know if the Cunninghams & Bloomturds are related? Where is the property line anyway? There seems to be something amiss in all of this.

Bay Ridge is just a sleeper cell waiting to be activated. At least you can find a large selection of towels, bedsheets and pajamas.....

ok let me get this straight, Mr C builds up to his property line and blocks his neighboors windows. as bizarre as it looks, it only looks bad because the neighboors house is built right up to the property line. if his house can be built up to the property line, why cant cunninghams? its brooklyn. if you want space move to queens.

"if his house can be built up to the property line, why cant cunninghams? its brooklyn. if you want space move to queens."

Many houses in Queens are built up to the property line as well. The fact is that the zoning in this case doesn't allow for the houses to be built that close in order to protect the character of the neighborhood. The character that Mr. Cunningham is trying to destroy.
