Crap-O-Rama part 2

"Some Astoria outfit is building at 81-19 Caldwell Avenue, in Middle Village. This doozy fills up the end of an entire block from 81st Street to 82nd Street. There have been numerous violations and at least one stop work order. Naturally, this was a self-certified job.
Of course, using the old "doctor's office" loophole and the fact that the property fronts on two corners helped the developer get away with building this monstrosity.

The sidewalks here are narrow and it feels as though you are going to be swallowed up by this thing as you walk past it. They have had the sidewalk blocked for months so that they could build as far out as possible." - K.B.

Does anyone understand the business about combining the tax lots?

This hunkof junk has managed to squeeze in more concrete and brick per square foot than anyone could imagine.

It looks like they would have built smack up to the curb if they were allowed to!

It's got a bigger footprint than "Sasquatch"!

I think the word 'compound' could be used to describe this monstrosity. Any groups of religious nuts looking for housing in queens?

It must have taken one hell of an architecht to take an oddly shaped lot and custom design a piece of crap to fill every square inch of it. Great job!

When I first saw this building it was during a quick drive by. I saw the windows and said hey that looks different. Now I can see the fedders sleeves, the exterior meters and the tiny garages (why build them> Can a car fit in there?). What a shame.

Call me crazy, but I think that this project look ok.

This is not "Crap"......as most of the other posts that are on the money.

Ugliness may be in the eye of the beholder. But you have to remember the bigger issues, too. How many units do you think this monster has? How does it fit in with the character of the neighborhood? How much worse do large buildings like this make traffic and parking? And when you consider how many other human warehouses like this are going up in Queens, ask yourself how much it will strain public utilities and transportation.

I would argue that being 'Crap' has as much to do with poor planning as it does the ugliness of one particular building

By the way, I think this thing is butt-ugly.

The tiny garages are not meant for a car, but for a large family.

The windows are at least proportionate for once, unlike that Ozone Park monstrosity earlier. The worst thing about it, other than the weird angles, is the fact that it's built up to the edge of the lot means there is no room for greenspace or landscaping. There is no shade and all that pavement is going to get hot in the summer.

You can put a tuxedo on a pig, but it's still a pig.
