The Myrtle Point development, also known as Ridgewood Towers, located at 3-50 St. Nicholas Ave., will be 17 stories — making it the tallest building in the area once completed. The mixed-use building will be used for retail and residential spaces.

According to the DOB, the first four floors will be dedicated to commercial use.

In the months leading up to this fatal incident, DOB issued a total of eight violations regarding safety conditions at the construction site. These violations could total thousands of dollars in fines pending an Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings investigation.

One violation issued in March cited a “failure to institute/maintain safety measures resulting in worker injury due to inadequate housekeeping at time of inspection…”

Ted Renz, the executive director of the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District, said that this accident was a tragedy.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and loss of life at this construction site,” Renz said. “This is a major development in the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District that will bring major retail and new housing opportunities to the community.”

On March 23, just a couple of weeks before the fatal fall, DOB issued safety violations after another worker was injured due to “poor safety conditions.”

The Ridgewood Towers project was originally met with much opposition from the local community and its leaders when it was proposed over five years ago.

Thats what happens when you hire companies who hire these illegals. They don't care about safety of people. They just want to hire the cheapest shit out there. These companies should be held more accountable for hiring illegals. But then again this is nyc, home of the illegals and woke crap. The dumbocrats say that they care SO MUCH about the illegals but when they are being hired due to their lower wages and things like this happen, then the dumbocrats do nothing to stop companies like this. The dumbocrats are the biggest hypocrites. They claim that the Republicans are all about "big business" and that the dumbocrats were supposed to be protecting the "working class" but I see it as the other way around.

But its zoning was approved by city council so it does not matter.

Oh, developer Meir Babaev! You think this guy gives a shit? You know you're dealing with an upstanding citizen when a three-second internet search reveals: "Meir has also been known as Meir Bavaez, Meir Z Babaev, Mier Bavaez and Mier Babaev." What's wrong with that? Must make his tax returns interesting. I wonder if he's got a Social Security number to go along with each name? (Pro Tip: of course he does).

Funny, if I look up Donald Trump or Stephen Ross or Brian Kingston or Jerry Speyer I don't find five different names for them. But these rando con men from Bumfuckistan who pour into America, a borderless nation, all seem to have however many names suits them. Well if things go bad, they can always hightail it back to the home country and lay low for a year or two until they can come back and whip up a new scheme.

But Bavaez-Babaev-Bavaez went to Queens College, so he must be a find American.

Oh here he is, talking up the shyster outfit of "Russian" tax finaglers who help him come up with tax abatement schemes. Great stuff! It's wonderful how these lovely immigrants form tight-knit clans.... err.... cabals... err.... COMMUNITIES to help each other game the system.

I wonder if the workers are unionized.
there’s no union workers at the school under construction on Barnet avenue in Sunnyside.
Cathy Nolan’s gift to her constituents- higher property taxes for homes and businesses

"But its zoning was approved by city council so it does not matter."

We need to start to set up a website that review each person on the City Council, thier votes their comments their budget use to do little more than bye votes.

They always tell their constituents they are for them while blissfully screwing over some other community - whose pol does the same for thier constituents. Cute game where its business as usual but each can approach their community and state that they fight for them but its out of their hands.

My condolences to the family of the person who died while working on the building.
There might be more deaths because not only are those workers at the Barnet Avenue and 48th Street school under construction not union , they think they’re cute by covering any fire hydrants on that street with orange plastic cones. What happens if the FDNY can’t access water in the event of a fire?

OSHA 30 and the SST 40 hours have been a requirement of the DOB since 2017. Hours of class focus on site clean up and protection to prevent this. Railings are measured and must support 250lbs! Debris must be removed every day. And yes, my card is scanned weekly by a qualified Site Supervisor who suffered 62 hours of classes to make sure my 43 hour certification actually works.
But if you walk this way and step over this pile of rubble you can follow me down to the ..... splat.
