Cyclists and pedestrians will have to fend for space for a year longer than expected on the Ed Koch-Queensboro Bridge’s dangerously-tight shared path because the city decided to postpone giving walkers their own lane until the end of next year.
The bridge’s south outer roadway was supposed to be dedicated to foot traffic by late 2022, but the Department of Transportation pushed that deadline back to December 2023, when the agency wraps up a 20-month construction project on the upper deck of the span, according to a notice DOT sent to local stakeholders Thursday morning.
Currently, cyclists and pedestrians have to share the notoriously-narrow northern outer roadway, while vehicle traffic takes up nine lanes across two levels of the bridge.
The plan announced by former Mayor Bill de Blasio a year ago was to give the southern outer roadway to pedestrians and make the northern one bikes-only, mirroring the setup on the Manhattan Bridge.

Dam straight and not commie! The car roadway projects come first, at least somebody at the D.O.T has a brain.
As the owner of 3 vehicles I pay for this shit with my registration fees and $$ soaring no fault insurance rates. (these guys with the bikes do not understand New York is a no fault insurance state)
Some of these roads with the craters and sunken covers are like driving on the moon. It just cost me $2200 for ball joints, idler arms control arm bushings, shocks for my vintage GMC Blazer.
And that daily driver GMC is a hellova tuff truck!!!
The problem is when your watching for the lousy daredevil bikes drivers, bad drivers, e-scooters and pedestrians you cant always be looking under the car in front of you to see what kind hole is coming or take emergency avoidance measures without danger of causing an accident.

Komrades! Karens! I am happy to report during the last snow apocalypse that the workers courageously endured here in Kweens Kounty the bike lanes were plowed. The snow was pushed up against the crosswalks very high on purpose to inconvenience the two leggeds. The fools who won’t ride the sanctified holy bicycles and insist on pushing baby strollers, shopping carts, wheelchairs and yes electric scooters and electric wheelchairs were stopped from crossing the street at many corners. We have shown , proven! that the Transportation Storm Troops have dominion over these mere mortals. Bicycles Uber Alles
