After a gruesome video showed a pedestrian being struck and run over by two cars, local elected officials and community activists gathered at that street corner in Glendale to call for better safety measures on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
On the corner of Cypress Avenue and Cooper Avenue Saturday, Feb. 12, at around 6:30 p.m., disturbing footage captured a 57-year-old man being struck by one car and falling to the ground as another car slowly runs him over. Last Monday, the video was uploaded to Twitter and has already gotten over 625,000 views.
The man was found in the street in a pool of blood when he was transported to Jamaica Hospital; he is alive. According to police, a 40-year-old male initially struck the pedestrian while making a left turn from Cooper Avenue. The only action taken thus far has been a failure to yield issued to the driver of the first vehicle.
Council member Robert Holden, who called the press conference Tuesday, said that the most dangerous aspect of his community is crosswalks.
“That’s the most danger to life and limb in this precinct,” Holden said. “This is an area that needs attention. You don’t have to be here that long to realize this is a problem corner. There’s lawlessness that we need to correct, coupled with NYPD enforcement. It’s so important to get the necessary safety improvements right here and the rest of New York.”

Are they delusional? Bike lanes do nothing but make things worst. What needs to be done is tightening up who can get a license. The driving test is a joke anymore. Also, I think people over 65 should be tested once every couple of years or so to see if they even are stable enough to still be driving. Another problem is that there's alot who drive who don't even speak a word of English. How do you offer a driving test in every language if the signs are written in English? It just fathoms me.
People over 65 have less car accidents than young idiots.

The problem is (I believe) the previous administration has slowed things down so much with bike lanes, bus lanes, red light and speeding cameras, traffic lights that are not timed correctly etc. that people are so frustrated that as soon as they get a chance to break out a traffic they become reckless. The lack of enforcement for motorized bikes, scooters, mopeds has led to reckless behavior. The two teens who were hit on Cooper Avenue recently we’re not old enough to have a license, insurance or registration. They have made Woodhaven Boulevard so slow that people are forced to cut down side streets. The side streets are not meant for that kind of traffic, Pedestrians do not stand a chance. What they need are delayed lights to give a pedestrian a chance to cross. These are just some of the problems in my opinion, but then again I’m not a traffic expert but either are they

People don't understand E-Bikes just like electric cars have instant torque and can accelerate from zero to 45MPG in 3-4 seconds. The stupid's WILL hotdog on them and its too much power for an inexperienced driver.
These ebike drivers need to carry insurance and pass some sort of safety tests like a 3 hour drivers Ed class for a permit if they don't have a drivers license.
You also need to have consequences for bad behavior, driving on public streets is a licensed qualified privilege NOT A RIGHT.
