Van Bramer backs congestion pricing

From the Daily News:

A congestion pricing plan that would toll the free East River bridges got key support from Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, the Democratic majority leader from Queens.

Van Bramer told the Daily News on Monday he’s fed up with the traffic-choked roads around the Queensboro Bridge and the cramped No. 7 train in his Long Island City district.

The estimated $1.5 billion that could be raised under the MoveNY plan from traffic guru “Gridlock” Sam Schwartz would cut down on traffic and fasttrack much needed repairs to stations on the No. 7 line, some of the worst in the system, Van Bramer said.

“We’ve seen massive congestion problems both on the subway cars and platforms themselves, and then in addition to that, in the run up to the (Queensboro Bridge),” Van Bramer said. “That’s why I am saying now we need to focus on this investment into our mass transit. The MoveNY plan is the best and most responsible way to get us there.”

WOW, a democrat that wants to charge us more money, so we can freely move around the city.
Another shakedown of We the People, and of course every business. This will just increase prices on everything.

Just what the city council needs, another BILLION AND A HALF DOLLARS to piss away...

You know it will just go to balancing the budget.
I.E. Homeless shelters

Is he really this stupid? Has he never driven through a toll booth and seen all the traffic they cause? Does he realize that most of the traffic in LIC around the queensboro bridge is a bi-product of when they made Jackson avenue into a single lane street? Or that a significant amount of traffic in the area is also caused by the unending construction work with utility work and construction trucks blocking parts of the road? Or that they put in a ridiculous bike lane that is used 3 months out of the year down vernon blvd when they should have put in another traffic lane? Nevermind the fact that they rezoned an area with narrow streets to be filled with high rises? LIC doesn't have the wide avenues that Manhattan has. What did he expect? People to park in sunnyside and get on a citibike? Yeah good luck with that.

Congestion pricing isn't going to help at all. But hey, Jimmy can claim he tried to do something about it... right?

Pure baloney! The issue with the overcrowded 7 line is poor MTA management . Proceeds from congestion pricing would not have any impact on the trains for another 20 years. Jimmy should meet with the MTA and work on getting to the root of the problem. Don't foist another tax on drivers!

Eliminate all tolls statewide and increase the cost of registering a car. Problem solved.

he created this entire mess with all of the building in woodside sunnyside astoria long island city who is he kidding -- another fool as a politican as usual it is either his way or the highway - pardon the pun

Great idea Jimmy, cut down the traffic by the 59st Bridge so you can have one of your staffers drive you to work quicker. I'm sure you'll get a free ride.

Faster commute for the privileged, more taxes for the surfs. I keep telling you THEY WANT OUR CARS.

Jimmy doesn't use the subway to get to City Hall. He has a chauffeured car. All Council members do.

Safely ensconced in his Sunnyside Gardens LPC municipal historic district home, Councilman Jimmy supported all of that over development that was going on in LIC that made other oeople's lives a living hell!

Now that he feels this over developments that he supported threatens his little cabin in his Utopia, he is now supporting congestion pricing to fix the original problem of the over development that caused all of the local traffic congestion in the first place.

What a nasty little wimp VB turned out to be. He has has been playing back room politics with the developers for years.
He took $10,500 in campaign contributions from the Wolkoff family, who owns the former 5 Pointz site, where two 40 story buildings are in the process of being erected.

How much congestion and overloaded #7 train cars will that be adding to the problem?
It is crystal clear that shady politicians like Van Bramer are the main problem in Queens.
The other problem is the idiot voters who elect them.

Jimmy is used to bending over to REBNY. He has a lot of good experience.
Their money got him elected. And the sheeple casted the votes.
And western Queens got booty f----d royally! Hmmmmm.....now it hurts....eh?

How about backing this fool out of office?

Backdoor Jimmy will be backed out by term limits. This is his last term in the city council.
But , the politically horny , Jimmy has his eyes on a juicier prize. He wants to become mayor.
Mary....imagine that?

Middle Villager...it's serfs not surfs. The surf is the ocean.

Yeah, back door Van Bramer....the queen of back room dealings.
He sold out his district for personal gain! This REBNY hustler embarrasses us all.

Charge a toll to drivers to ease congestion on the subway. Must be common core math.

Before the illegal invasion and executive amnesty Everything was about your carbon footprint and shrinking resources and over population then the political class saw the numbers heading to outer space and realized with these numbers of dependent class We can be a one party system for a hundred years
Don't blame the politicians,it was YOU who surrendered your freedom, you sold it cheep and now the Bill is Due.

Can we stop people who don't drive from making laws that affect those of us who do?

We need a commuter tax, not tolls on the few remaining free bridges.

Anonymous said...

Add a commuter tax to car insurance and give me Another reason to drive uninsured by the way
If you pay for uninsured motorist in your policy then technicly I'm insured so Thankyou

Toll booths? No. They want cameras and EZpass sensors. If you don't have EZpass they mail a bill to the address your car is registered at, with a surcharge of a few dollars to cover the added expense.

Anonymous: You are so right! There is no room for toll booths on the 59th Street Bridge. What a boondoggle that would be -- No employees but lots of money in the coffers that would magically disappear. Tolls on bridges in NYC would not help the overcrowding on the 7 line BUT getting the MTA to fix the derelict stations and put more trains on during rush hour would certainly help. Yes, we deserve value for our tax dollars BUT we are NOT getting it. No news there.

Look at those Dumbo ears and sawtooth smile.
Would you buy a used car from this man?

Jimmy doesn't drive or public transport it to city hall. He has racked up frequent flyer credits.
