Contractor cops to bribery

From the Daily News:

A general contractor who worked on the buildings that exploded in the East Village earlier this year pleaded guilty to bribery in an unrelated case Wednesday.

Dilber Kukic, 40, copped to bribery, a felony, in Manhattan Supreme Court Wednesday morning.

He admitted to handing off $600 to an undercover officer in the investigator's car in an effort to get violations cleared from a pair of buildings he owns on W. 173rd St. on an expedited basis.

Justice Marcy Kahn offered a sentence of probation and 200 hours of community service in exchange for his admission.

He will also have to cough up a $4,000 fine.

So they got one.

Will this stop the problems?

Business as usual.

This goes on every day...

That's his punishment???? A measly $4,000 fine! This city is a joke - shouldn't his license be permanently revoked?

Not much of a punishment

Kukic's DOB G.C. license expired in August. Just like MRMD, the DOB should revoke his license. His name is not on the DOB Disciplined List. They should not allow him to surrender the license. It should be revoked. He should not be eligible to get insurance for any type of construction work.

Just saying.

Hey, maybe city council can tear itself away from its obsession with gender issues and sex that mirror the fixation of a 12 year old and use their time to pass some legislation on real issues as this making making it a real crime with real penalties.

Seems like stuff that outrages all of us generally gets a clueless response from them, but shit they seem to be obsessed with just clogs our in baskets.

At least $10.000 dollar punishment + 3 months in jail time

Anon, that's a great point. The Council seems to be obsessed with anything besides making the city more livable.

I'll go over this one more time folks, there really is no such thing that we should call a general contractors license in NYC. It is just a fee paid and proof of insurance to the Dept of Consumer Affairs and/or theDOB. If you screw up and get your"license" revoked its no big deal really, you simply buy a new insurance policy under your grandmothers name and have granny get the new license. Everyone but the victims know this is the case. The only thing that can be done to discourage this shitting behavior is to hammer the bastards with fines and seize their vehicle and personal property. The prosecutors at Consumer affairs and DOB know this so I can only speculate why they would plea these pricks down to a $4000 fine. REMEMBER THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MEANINGFUL GC LICENSE IN NYC.

I agree: We hammer the offenders (hurt them financially and prosecute them when they harm individuals) and the City needs to get on board and do their job.

There are Home Improvement Contractors and there are NYC DOB LICENSED GENERAL CONTRACTORS.

If you want to building 1 - 2 or 3 family houses in NYC you need to be licensed by the DOB.

DOB OFFERS 3 LICENSES TO CONTRACTORS:

Just to add insult to injury------this asshole that has the death of 2 people on his hands, committed a felony bribe of a public official and was fined only $4000 still has his" general contractors license" listed as active on the DOB website. The DOB and City government is so fucked up and incompetent that they cannot simply revoke his license?
