Dromm is go-to guy on banning horse carriages

From the NY Observer:

Councilman Daniel Dromm, a Queens Democrat, will introduce a bill to ban horse-drawn carriages from city streets, according to a source with knowledge of the legislation.

Mr. Dromm, one of the body’s more liberal members, has been at the forefront of the drive to outlaw the carriages and his role in the bill’s introduction comes as little surprise. Last night, the Observer reported that long-awaited legislation will be introduced as early as the next City Council meeting on December 8.

The bill, a de Blasio administration initiative, will offer displaced carriage drivers free green taxi medallions on the condition that they purchase handicapped-accessible cabs. The union representing the carriage drivers panned the proposal while animal rights activists celebrated Mayor Bill de Blasio’s apparent commitment to one of his more high profile and unpopular–according to polls, at least–campaign pledges.

Drumm stated that a society is judged by how it treats its animals. Mr. Drumm, have you ever been to a cattle ranch or poultry farm?
A society is judged by how it treats its ELDERS is how the saying goes.
Stop with your nonsensical crap already!

If Dromm is so concerned about animals why doesn't he introduce a bill to ban live poultry markets in NYC?

Because the poultry markets aren't sitting on valuable real estate like the carriage horse house is.

I am sick of the slander, and that's what it is,about the horse carriage riders. And how does Dromm have a say in this when he's from queens?

what they are offering these people are absurd.especially does idiotic electric cabs which were found to be unsafe.

and what's supposedly more humane, those dirtbag pedicab riders?

this is just a continuation of the fun size mayor's vision to waste nyc and turn it into a theme park, and mayor mccray is actually exacerbating it with this asinine plan that's based on inaccuracies.

I know Dromm is doing it for the bleeding heart animal lovers, but these horses on the congested streets of a modern city are an absurdity, and make-work for the overpaid drivers.

The carriage drivers are being offered outer borough green cab opportunities.

Hmph! How about offering the boy mayor the same opportunity.

Lets take all these ultra-left pols and send them to Cuba on a one-way ticket.

Maybe Dromm got kicked in the groin by a horse once. No I didn't mean THAT. He is certainly a horses ass, though.

At least Councilman Danny is getting away from his single agenda, gay rights, and is now playing the horses. Win, place or show, Daniel?

Is Comrade Dromm wearing a North Korea lapel pin?

Comrade Dromm, please refrain from wearing the party pin in public!

We haven't taken over YET, but when we do, you may wear the party pin with pride!!!

There is another agenda which I saw once in another discussion about this bull headed policy effort. Look at the locations where the stables for these horses are located:
The stables, located off of 11th Avenue at 52nd, 48th, 38th and 37th Streets, are located in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood/.

In other words, these stables are located in high end real estate neighborhoods. Real estate interests, not humane animal treatment, is at the heart of this carriage horse debate. These horses are treated more humanely than public school children in NYC. I think Dromm needs to find a more relevant issue, like hunger or homelessness. Real estate developers would love to get a hold of the properties these stables occupy and turn them into high end high rise buildings for either apartments or offices.

What did Dromm do prior to his appointment as an NYC councilman?

He wasn't "Appointed" to the city council, he was elected. It's my understanding he was a Public School Teacher and then after a felony conviction for sexual abuse, he was a democrat district leader...

And that is why we are fucked up as a society. The elderly in the country do not fair much better either.

But he is right with that comment.

But if you want to keep the carriage industry, then house the horses in Central Park and they should only be used in the Park. Don't know what the logistic are for that, but having the horses travel on this horrid streets is bad.

I have seen these horses struggling on city streets with fast cars and taxis, plus huge trucks. I am an animal lover and I think it is fucked up.

Keep it all in the Park not on busy NYC streets.

But I do wish City Council would focus on all quality of life issues, which they do not.

Mr Mayor and Mr Dromm if it is cruel to have horses in the city I guess it time for you to close all the zoos, aquarium's and pet stores. A sea lion is suppose to be at home in the ocean not in a tank in Central Park. Close all the zoos immediately and stop abusing the animals by keeping them in cages. Do you really think a Giraffe should be in a zoo in the Bronx. Oh and while you are in the animal protection business perhaps you can close the NYPD mounted unit as the horses have to work in traffic congested streets. If it is not good for the carriage horses the same must apply to the mounted unit.

Dromm was a public school teacher. You can give him that, at least.

what they are planning on doing once the stables are gone is to build large apartment houses -- and this is why whomever donated to our mayor's campaign is getting to go ahead to do this -- our mayor promised these people from the very beginning for sure

the last time I witnessed the only time the mounted unit was utilized, not counting leaving tons of shit on the streets for years when deployed, was when at the protest against the iraq invasion/occupation>>>

as for the true agenda to destroy the stables for yet more luxury horseshit,I can't wait for the new york times real estate spin and drivel on it.

You should remember that NYCLASS was the money behind the anti-Quinn movement. deBlasio owes his surge and victory to them in no small part, and he's probably scared !@#$less of them doing the same to him in 2017.

This affects 300 drivers, and maybe Liam Neeson. It's a small political target, and it can be justified by the claim that the animals need protecting.

From a political standpoint, the Blaz would be a fool NOT to do it.

Next!

Yet another example of how the Queens delegation works for someone else - not their constituents but not to worry - they will be a shoe-in no matter how they crap over us.

The mayor said today that no one comes to NYC to ride the carriages in Central Park.

But I do read how Queens is pushing tourism and we spend millions on 2nd string Bangladeshi and Korean and Bolivian and [fill in your favorite group here] acts and locate them in easily accessible places like Queens College, Flushing Meadows and Queensboro Comm College.

Yes, we spend millions on sustaining a 'cultural' menu of these things. I go to see them often, don't you.

That they provide photo ops of our sorry assed lot of politicians to reach out for votes and donations from these communities do not factor in the equation at all.

Toe tapping Mexican polka music fills that gap in my cultural life since the Ed Sullivan Show went off the are those many decades ago.

On the other hand, I have no idea in why someone would want a carriage ride in Central Park with their sweetie some evening or some day in spring.

No idea.

nothing but a land grab. Developers, Dromm, Debozo are interested in the valuable carriage houses the horses sleep in. Don't let them fool you. This is no grass roots movement. Just like the Riker's island, it's land grab. The three D's want to close Rikers. It may seem like a good idea to many, but where will be put them? Way upstate? or more likely in the neighborhoods that don't have the resources to fight this. And to the prisoners and their supporters who may support this idea, if you wind up, upstate, it's going to cost alot more for your relatives to visit you. Careful with what you want, you might get it.
