Myrtle is for pigs
From the Times Newsweekly:
Public waste baskets along Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood are being abused by area residents who dump their household trash in the receptacles, according to the executive director of a local merchants’ organization, who called on the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to launch a crackdown.
Ted Renz of the Myrtle Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) recently sent a letter to the DSNY’s Henry Ehrhardt asking for the agency to dispatch enforcement agents to the shopping strip between Cypress Avenue and 60th Lane to catch individuals who place household garbage into the public bins.
“Many of these corners are abused on a regular basis, generally between 6 and 8 a.m. (peak times of abuse), with a significant amount of household waste in each public receptacle,” Renz wrote in the letter, which was forwarded to the Times Newsweekly.
The illegal dumping complicates the efforts of the BID to keep the shopping strip clean, according to Renz. Crews are out on the sidewalk daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to assist the DSNY in sweeping the streets and also removing and replacing garbage bags in the 65 receptacles on Myrtle Avenue between Fresh Pond Road and Wyckoff Avenue.

It is so easy to plant a small CCD video recorder to catch perps like these it's pathetic.
The city really doesn't want to catch them, because they can't afford to prosecute or imprison them.
And the perps know it.
Honestly, people have watched other people bring household trash to the litter basket, and say to themselves "Why don't I do that too?" I don't know where people can pick up the idea it's "wrong" to do so.
At least the Ridgewood part of Myrtle has a BID. At the railroad trestle at Fresh Pond the BID stops because that's the border with with Glendale, which has no BID. The garbage problem on that side is ten times worse!
Why does the BID stop there? That's so stupid!
go to astoria sunnyside woodside jackson heights everyone is doing this -- especially people that live in illegal apartments
That street is pristine in contrast with filthy Flushing.
Way too many illegal apartments in Ridge Dale.
City needs to clean it up in more ways than one.
I am sorry, but don't these people know that their garbage is pick up at their buildings and they don't have to walk through the streets carrying their garbage to throw it out. Wouldn't it be easier just to throw it out where they live?
And then when Sanitation goes through this trash, finds a name address for the offending pig and issues a summons to them, said pig will then cry to the Daily News. The News will then print the usual sob story with the usual photo of the sad faced piggy holdig up their "unfair" summons.
1) A lot of this trash is from businesses who don't want to pay for garbage pickup.
2) Residents who live above the stores don't have a place to store their garbage cans, so they throw it out on the street.
3) Residents in illegally subdivided apartments are told to put their trash curbside so they go undetected. Sanitation will only pick up 3 bags per unit.
My recent trip up Fresh Pond road last Wednesday when it was warm revealed something new.
There are these gypsy looking people on front stoops, drinking and staring almost everyplace.
This included a group on 68th road & Fresh pond right corner across PS88.
Several 104 patrol cars passed them did nothing as one was peeing between 2 cars
I'm told they are Albanians, AND one of the worst groups you can have.
illegal dumping by illegal residents in illegal apartments.
wonderful city we have here, huh?
I'm told they are Albanians, AND one of the worst groups you can have.

Yeah, unfortunately, we are getting a lot of human garbage from the soviet-block nations recently. Albanians are amongst the worst.
The albanians are so bat-shit insane, even the Italian and Russian mafias wont do business with them anymore.
All the illegal apt dwellers in Maspeth dump their garbage on Grand Avenue
