What's $25M to a billionaire?

From the NY Times:

...Mr. Bloomberg cast aside the warnings of consultants and executives who told him that the magazine was a financial millstone that would cost the company, at best, $25 million a year. “Do I look like a guy worried about losing $25 million?” Mr. Bloomberg asked the naysayers, according to three of these people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the talks were confidential.

Mr. Bloomberg’s longtime friend and fellow publisher, Mortimer B. Zuckerman: CARPETBAGGERS BOTH:

Boston puts up with a lot of stuff, but the Irish still rule that town and thus we get Bloomberg and Zuckerman to push us around instead - AND WE DONT SAY OR PROTEST ANYTHING! WE ONLY ATTRACT PREMIER CARPETBAGGERS:ROBERT KENNEDY AND HILARY CLINTON - THIS IS WHY NYC IS SO F**KED UP!

The ego side of Bloomy's brain has emerged again. Mental illness aside, Who cares if he loses money as long as its not the taxpayers.

HUNGRY CHILDREN??????????????
If a child goes hungry in NYC, Their parents are at fault, School breakfast, school lunch, and food stamps for anyone with low income.

Thanks for saving the Steinway Mansion for $4 million (and thanks for Vallone supporting Bloomberg and being repayed for his efforts by not getting the mayor to go 10 blocks from Mike's Diner to see it)

Two nitits.

Actually, this item reveals something interesting. The "What is $25M to ?" could apply to the people in DC. I suspect after a few years of dealing with trillions of dollars, $25M would hardly get noticed. It gets so big that the people running things are no longer running things. They can't possible read the fine print in all the budgets.
Perhaps this outlook is a reason to keep things more local. Perhaps each borough would be better served if they operated on their own, so the numbers are understandable not only to the people in government, but to the people who are funding this mess as well.
Even further, primary governmental functions should be done done on a town by town basis. Jamaica does it's own thing, Astoria on it's own, Hollis, Ozone Park etc... If your real estate and other taxes were controlled by the local community, $25M would be noticeable.

From the Times piece:

"And in a slightly startling admission for a man of abundant self-certainty, he acknowledged that there remained essential areas where he had yet to develop convictions. 'I don’t know what to do about Afghanistan,' he said during the process, according to a person familiar with that conversation."

I do. Build my bomb shelter
in my basement, stock up on water and cans of tuna fish.

And don't forget the nra.

RE: why n.y.c is so f** up.

the minority caucus and progressive caucus in a n.y.c.council of 40 democrat /liberals to 4 g.o.p. members.

there are no CHECKS AND BALANCES in the local government.and they are all owned by the public union leadership. the private sector taxpayer be damned.

If my kids had to rely on the amount of food served at a school provided breakfast/lunch with no dinner you bet they would be hungry.

Read the statistics on child hunger

•Almost one-half (47 percent) of NYC households with children had difficulty affording needed food in 2009 — a 47 percent increase from 2003. (NYC Hunger Experience 2009)
•More than one out of four (27 percent) children in NYC (18 percent in the US) lived below the federal poverty level in 2008 (approximately $18,000 per year for a family of three). (US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2008)
•. (NYC Hunger Safety Net 2007)

Maybe you should try eating only 2 meals a day with no snacks in between. See how long it take to feel hungry. My guess is: you have NO CHILDREN.

The question is why are people having kids they can't afford to feed?

They aren't supposed to rely on the food served at school. They are supposed to be fed dinner by their parents. If they are poor there are a myriad of social programs that address hunger. Food pantries, after school programs, food stamps, etc. Does anyone work these days or are we all living on handouts?

OK Folks: Check this out:
The NY Times is quoting a comment the Fearless Mayor made after purchasing Business Week about a year and a half ago. Get ready: GUESS WHO OPERATED BUSINESS WEEK?
Heart Magazines. GUESS WHO OPERATED HEARST? Cathie Black.
Think of this, think of $25 mil, think of what's going on in our schools...

And then write your elected officials to reinstate, indeed, increase, all millionaire taxes.
