Council members are not great money managers

From the Daily News:

The City Council manages your tax dollars through the city budget, but for some lawmakers, managing their own money has been a disaster.

The homes of Queens Councilmen James Sanders, a Democrat, and Daniel Halloran, a Republican, are now in foreclosure.

Two years before her first Council run in March 2001, Elizabeth Crowley (D-Queens) emerged from personal bankruptcy.

Morons who think council members in foreclosure are somehow related to national politics will have their comments removed. I'm really sick of waking up every morning and finding the blog hijacked by idiots debating about war, the national debt and which presidency was responsible for the most misery. It's like opening up a local paper and reading the letters to the editor, 75% of which are not about local issues but are rants about Bush or Obama. You people are a big part of the reason why Queens is fast becoming a hellhole. It's the local dipshit pol ruining the place, not the president or congress.

CRAPPER! Keepin it Real!
How do we educate the masses that CHANGE does'nt start at the TOP!! It starts at the very bottom!!
The PTA mom, the civic association that makes their voices heard, The Community Board meetings, and their COUNCILMAN! You want change! Vote stand up people to the lowest elected seats, and start the trickly UP effect! This is the toughest of challenges.......getting that message out and processed by the community.
As for Halloran.....there's a thing called Karma; luckily.
As for Halloran......a mans

The standard for running for office must be raised to include financial stability and fiscal responsibility in own personal and family finances.

Queens is becoming a hellhole because of politicians like Halloran, who's short political career is also in forclosure! Just a few more uneventful months for you Danny and it's back to Mineola.

HALLORAN HAS DONE NOTHING FOR HIS CONSTITUENTS OTHER THAN SOUND BITES. HE IS CONSTANTLY ON TV TALKING ABOUT THINGS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THOSE THAT PUT HIM IN OFFICE.

THIS GUY HAS SO MUCH CRAP ON HIM I DOUBT HE WILL FINISH HIS TERM.

HE LEARNED A LOT FROM THE OLD PADAVAN. USELESS

Would care to further elucidate?
Perhaps inspire us on how we may improve the condition of this county.

Or if the Anonymous comments annoy you to the point of ranting, change your site to allow that privilege for registered readers only.

Well said Senor Crapster. ALL politics is (are?) local. Bush is out, Obama is in. Worry about the next local election.

Well Said! The truth of the matter is that if you tried to do that candidates would become protective and say that the other candidate has no right to invade into his private life. But there's a clear connection to capabilities and financial intelligence. EVERY large corp runs a credit check on a potential hire, and if that hire has a terrible credit score he's automoatically rejected. There's a reason why they do that. Because history and psychology has shown that those 2 things are positively correlated.

SO....
there might be a reason why danny is declaring bancruptcy. Let's see what happens in the next....

Goes with being in the game.

As I see it you have four choices:

1)Shut off comments. That way only -your- agenda and beliefs will prevail.

2)Put comments on a password. That choice will get you a safe little circlejerk of sycophants.

3) Stop complaining and engage in the debate, understand the some will take issue with statements that are slanted and untrue.

4)Shut it down and resume your stress-free and unremarkable life.

What a lot of rage in these comments. Lexipro, anyone?

Why would a council member end up in foreclosure? Did they not know how much income they would be receiving before running for office? When you are two mortgage payments behind, it doesn't occur to you to try to sell the house? Even if you lose some money at least your credit and good name will remain intact. I just can't respect people that do this on purpose.

it is a constitutional right to declare bankruptcy to reorganize your debt.

it has been done for a long time in the U.S.,especially since the start of the credit card industry.

at this time your government in 2011 has put you into a $ FOUR TRILLION DEBT.

MANY STATES AND CITIES ARE BANKRUPT......

if halloran has financial problems ,he has to solve them.

but YOU have to solve the N.Y.C. AND U.S. debt,WITH INCREASED TAX REVENUE FROM YOUR
WEEKLY PAYCHECK AND PROPERTY TAX BILL.

PAYCHECK AND N.Y.C. PROPERTY TAX.

Let's get back on topic. Is there any City Council member who's not a schmuck?

Anonymous said...

Hope he kept the motel and dinner reciepts for his liason.

Sorry liasons?

Anon No. 24 -

It seems to me that being a schmuck is a bipartisan condition in the City Council. It may have something to do with the air supply in that room at City Hall that deadens their minds.

THE GUY WHO KNOWS said...

HALLORAN IS DECLaring Bankruptcy because he's getting DIVORCED!
That's the standard....he is an attorney you know.

These council members must be following in the footsteps of our mayor, who was a "great businessman" who was going to save NY. Nice job Bloomturd!

What a wonderful council member we have here in Glendale:
Elizabeth Crowley
- had two children by the age of 18.
- files for bankruptcy at age 19
- separates from her husband at age 20
– runs for office at age 21
- hooks up with a crook, Brian McLaughlin at age 21
– gets a patronage job at 22 and helps mismanage a
$32 million grant helping businesses hurt by the
9/11 terror attacks.
- Mismanages her campaigns, gets caught cheating
and is fined $55,000 by the Campaign Finance
Board.
- Mishandles day-to-day operations in District 30
- more to come
