Happy 70th birthday, LaGuardia Airport

From Gothamist:

LGA was dedicated on October 15th, 1939, as the New York Municipal Airport, and opened for business on December 2nd of that year. Didn't things look so hopeful and exciting back then? See the full slideshow here. Time magazine called it "the most pretentious land and seaplane base in the world."

Yeah hopeful. Hitler was getting his Reich's gas chambers and bombs going Tojo was readying a sneaky attack on the U.S. Diphtheria, whooping cough, scarlet fever and Polio were rampant oh and the little problem of the depression.

My late Father who lived through that period and spent 2-1/2 years in France (paratroops combat eng) said that he looked forward to the day when no one would be left that had a living memory of that era.

There has been a Zeppelin NT operating on the west coast for a little over a year. It would have been nice to invite it to visit College Point at the old Flushing Airport site but Grinch Bloomtard saw to it that it could never happen. However, that airship is amazing. I attended a flight demonstration in Germany in 2000 and that craft really impressed me. It can hover, back up, and even rotate on its own axis. I posted this video of the Zep on YouTube:

re:LINO,the liberal,who might have followed stalin of the U.S.S.R in 1939 ?

you mention hitler and tojo, but you conveniently omit
stalin/molotov/u.s.s.r..
if you read the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 1939, you will see that Hitler's Nazi (national socialists) government made this non-aggression treaty ,with Stalin's U.S.S.R. (union of soviet socialist) government .the treaty lasted until june,1941 ,when the nazi's invaded the U.S.S.R.

in the meantime ,the U.S.S.R. communists attempted to divide Europe with the nazi"s.

history shows that communist stalin annexed Estonia.Latvia, Lithuania,Romania and parts of Finland . and parts of POLAND.

Tell our young citizens the "whole"truth, or we might alert GLEN BECK about your liberal lies.

Can we please stay on topic...which is an aviation event and not a political one. Thank you.

Beck can go fuck himself..as I'am sure he does regularly.

I purposely omitted the monster Stalin because he had been an -ally- of ours during the second world war.

Did that fact escape your one-watt brain.

At least you have refrained from all those exclamation marks!!!!!

Now, if you'll just learn a little non AM radio history..we might have a worth opponent.

Lino-
You're a 5th wheel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop being so annoying and leave your political rants to a post that is appropriate. Respect others much?

Lino, why are you so obsessed with hating Glen Beck? Use your big boy words.

Is it because Air America told you to hate him? You never talk about why you hate the guy. What makes you so angry?

baaahhhh, baaaaahhh said the sheep.

Personally, i don't care for Glen Beck but you ever notice that nobody hated Glen Beck when he was at CNN? All of a sudden he goes to Fox and he's a labeled a pariah in the rest of the media...funny. Don't you wonder why that is?

Shouldn't we have people calling out all the bullshit in our government? It's called checks and balances. Aren't liberals supposed to be more tolerant of others' ideas?

i'm glad to have learned about the tyranny that crept slowly up on 20 million innocents in the 30s and 40s. Makes me more vigilant.

also, Lame-o what is a "worth opponent"?

"those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them"

Comments that pertain to the subject of the post are appropriate. Of course some of the trolls have limited comprehension and a massive ego and make us suffer through their shit as they hijack the conversation and create their own threads that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Is it wrong to expect that commenters will add to the conversation and not detract from it? The article is about LaGuardia Airport. What does that have to do with Hitler, Stalin, or your mother's mustache???
