A Bloomberg win means more loss for us

From the NY Times:

Coming soon to a firehouse near you: Mr. Thompson.

The comptroller has been attacking Mr. Bloomberg for closing numerous firehouses during his two terms in office.

Mr. Thompson has been showing up lately in more locations that are next to, or not far from, firehouses that were closed or considered for closure. And he is surrounding himself with firefighters from the Uniformed Firefighters Association, which has endorsed him.

On Wednesday, Mr. Thompson campaigned in Sunnyside, Queens, with City Councilman Eric N. Gioia, and noted that Engine Company 261, less than a mile away, had been closed by the mayor.

“If Mike Bloomberg wins, there will be other firehouses that will close in the city of New York,” Mr. Thompson. “So again, New York’s Bravest — it’s good to see you, good to have your support.”

Some may dismiss this as political rhetoric, but it's the sad truth. Thompson also should mention that the closed firehouses are in areas that Bloomberg upzoned for denser development.

Mr Thomson if you know in advance of a fire-house targeted for closing why is it that you don't make a heck of a lot of noise to get the affected community raising hell? Mayor Bloomberg is simply crockers to close firehouses and police precients during a depression - why these essential services are targeted - make no sense?? Worse yet, these areas all have seen dramatic jump in population growth due to the new slums built by shoddy developers.

Mike Bloomberg closed down firehouses after Sept. 11. They are all in dense areas and mostly all in areas his administration pushed Bloomberg's reckless tsunami of community crushing development. Engine 212 was the closest firehouse to the largest fire post 9-11 and the peoples firehouse was shuttered.

The mayor has many priorities like irresponsible development and helping out his rich friends including NYU, Cooper Union and Columbia U. but the safety of New Yorkers is not one of them.

Bloomberg closes firehouses yet he and Quinn want to develop a ferry service for the Rich on the East side to commute since the subways are 3 blocks away from their homes. God forbid they have to walk.
