HPD inspector busted for bribetaking

A group of housing inspectors attending a routine lecture on how to prevent corruption got an on-the-spot lesson yesterday when authorities suddenly arrested one for taking a $100 bribe.

CLASS CLOWN BUSTED

Hughes was dispatched to a house in Queens to handle a complaint involving a lack of heat and hot water.

Officials said Hughes noticed that the home had an illegal basement apartment, but offered not to report it and accepted a $100 payoff.

He then allegedly submitted a report to HPD stating there was no basis for the heat and water complaint and never mentioned the illegal basement.
