Far Rockaway may get a little closer

Bloomberg is floating a plan to provide ferry service to the Rockaways:

MIKE ROCK(AWAY)S THE BOAT

Read the list at left for the details.

Also, from Newsday:

City pushes for Rockaways ferry service

The willingness to foot part of the bill for a Rockaways ferry marks a reversal of the city's position from just two years ago, when the Department of Transportation said of such a service: "Our policy is not to be involved in subsidies."

Naturally....to make projects like the Arverne job more attractive....you've got to provide a faster people-mover like the ferry service. Nobody buys property in the middle of nowhere!

That's how mayor Mike pays back his builder buddies!

I'd like to build my house on sand and then when a big storm comes and washes into the sea, I'll file for federal disaster relief and rebuild a bigger house on sand.

The ferry will connect Rockaway residents to Brooklyn and Manhattan, but not the heart of Queens. It should not be accepted as a substitute to a revived Rockaway railway.
