The night the traffic lights went out in Middle Queens

Following rampant power outages in his district on Nov. 30, Councilman Robert Holden released a letter calling for a meeting with NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez and OEM Commissioner Zachary Iscol to discuss what caused the outage and what steps could be taken to prevent it from happening again in the future.

Holden expressed concern over the city’s failure to swiftly address the Nov. 30 outages in Maspeth and Middle Village in which thousands of residents lost power for as long as five hours. Traffic in the area was drastically affected by this, according to Holden, as the outages occurred during rush hour.

According to Holden, additional police officers were not deployed to the 104th Precinct until the end of the outages. Holden cited a desire to know what caused the outages and delayed response, as well as wanting to know how outages like this will be handled in the future.

“The areas affected routinely suffer due to overhead lines that cannot handle rain storms,” Holden said. “The transformers on Eliot Avenue blow often, including last year on Election Day. After two conversations with Commissioner Iscol, I still did not understand what additional resources our district would be receiving, nor what the emergency response was other than ‘monitoring the situation.’ It was only after 10:00 p.m. did the 104th Precinct receive additional police officers. Considering heavy rains and strong winds were forecasted, it would make sense that the Office of Emergency Management and NYPD would have coordinated for expected power outages in Queens.”

Holden said he wanted DOT Commissioner Rodriguez to take part in the meeting so his office could discuss plans for when a large amount of traffic lights go out. Holden is hopeful that such a meeting could help ensure each department is better prepared for the next massive outage.

Somehow it doesn't occur to Progressives that if you invite the Third World to enter your nation in massive numbers, you become the third world. You see, the third world isn't a shiphole because of "colonialism" or "exploitation." The third world is the third world because it's full of third worlders. Biology is the only destiny. Now, America is close to being majority third world, and little inconveniences like massive corruption and power outages are baked into the cake. It will all get worse, not better.

Surely this was the work of TA communists?
Either way, traffic was little affected in the evening.
Bicycle Bob Holden must have been delayed on his way to Rosas pizza.

Many people blame Joe Biden for the failing economy and inflation.
Now blame him for black outs...

Just imagine what will happen when electric cars become the law. Can't even keep traffic lights on, let alone charge cars. What a joke it will be.

"overhead lines that cannot handle rain storms"

That's a bullshit answer, rain on power lines should not cause blown transformers.
Unless the grid is to weak and overloaded for demand (in which case a circuit breaker or thermal switch should trip first before a transformer core gets hot enough to vent then eventually blow.
The lines, hardware and insulators are old and have not been serviced in decades and are failing, causing dead shorts. The safeguards like breakers are also old and shot.

It amazing how Con Ed/National Grid gets away with adding 15 cents per kilowatt as a delivery surcharge for maintaining equipment. Middle Village and the DOT should sue Con Ed or National Grid for return of delivery surcharges on every electric bill going back 10 years.
They been paying for something they were not receiving.
Same shit with the traffic lights, the backup APC battery's likely haven't been changed in years and are all dried up.
Con Ed and the DOT failed miserably, because the bosses know nothing about traffic-light electronics let alone electric distribution. They are just appointed suits with zero qualifications for the jobs they have been appointed.
Same shit with the mayor and everybody else this ghetto jackass has appointed, police commissioner included.
New York voters asked for it, and now you have it.

What a friggan joke, 10 watt LED traffic lights cant be reliably powered and backed up yet the Citi-Wokes wanna jam 80,000 watt E-cars and 100AMP chargers down our all our throats.
The logistics on that are near impossible without replacing NYCs whole grid, digging every street, adding 1000s of sub stations fed by dangerous high tension primary feeder lines that would have to be buried in a way to co-exist with the sewer system.--a system where most the diagrams are long gone. (does anyone think a 15-35 kV (15,000-35,000 volts) class voltage primary line is suitable for wooden poles 30 feet from heavy maniac traffic, pedestrian, high density residential. Ice storms, trees and hurricanes ? Now mix that in with all the rats nest slop Verizon and Spectrum did on those poles, branching directly into people homes, living rooms and bedrooms.

Not happening, It would all have to go all underground.
The current idiots we have could never undertake or contract such, it all have to be farmed out and take near a 1/2 century.
The city and AOC fans better dream on because gas and diesel cars & trucks is here to stay for quite a wile, a long LONG wile.

Liberal Democrats don’t give any thought to the consequences of their agenda.

I assume most power outages are the result of green energy.

Just wait when they push the all electric thingy. This will be a daily occurrence and just not in Middle Village. Aging infrastructure.
When was the last time the city came around to trim their trees?

Probably a squirrel or a racoon got zapped on the power lines. It's knocked out power a few times around here before.

@ “Meanwhile, I've spent thousands on wheel bearings, tie rods, and bent rims the last 20 years,”

Probably just the way you drive. Try Sticking to the road and under the speed limit.

Welcome to the Biden economy! You should’ve expected it since most you voted for it.

Yep, same here and I use a 1991 GMC Blazer truck (the body on frame built like a tank) for primary use.
Did brand new Ball joints, Idler & Pitman arms, and stabilizer links 30K miles ago till 2 years living in the Bronx. The road into City Island is like driving on the moon like in Queens or Willets Point.
Its not the driving habits.
I have classic cars and I cant even drive them . Also you dont know if you making it home driving or ending up in the water and gotta swim.
You gotta see the clowns come with the sledgehammers come every time the drawbridge gets stuck, Its like watching a Laurel & Hardy movie. People stuck on Pelham Parkway as back as I-95 cursing, screaming, driving on the grass medium, waiving tire wrenches, loosing their minds. This Adams family administration is THE F_CKING WORST !!
Especially for white and Italian neighborhoods like City Island and Country Club, Like Middle Village we get no representation, no cops, not even a street sweeper. NOTHING, ZIP !!!

Two 100 year old houses recently burned to the ground, because local firehouse is a skeleton crew with a tiny truck and backup couldn't arrive because the bridge was stuck again.
This is AOCs district and not a peep from her or the mayor. AOC only shows up with armed bodyguards in black sunglasses for Memorial and Halloween parades.
