Citibike cancelled

Citi Bike installation on pause for input 1

 Queens Chronicle

The city — make that Mayor Adams’ Office — has agreed to delay the installation of Citi Bike docking stations that are coming to Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth and Middle Village.

The delay, or “pause” as some are telling the Chronicle, came after a meeting two weeks ago at the district office of Councilman Bob Holden (D-Maspeth) that included civic and community leaders, city Department of Transportation officials and Mayor Adams’ Senior Advisor Tiffany Raspberry.

Community members have argued that the locations of between 50 and 60 docks were made without adequate community participation, particularly those that would be placed in the street at the expense of residential and business on-street parking.

The DOT ruffled many feathers in November upon announcing that installations would begin in December. Now that has been put off until January.

“When Mayor Adams heard that the community was upset that input wasn’t considered, he sent top officials from the DOT and his own staff,” said Eric Butkiewicz, chairman of the Transportation Committee of Community Board 5.

“I give him credit for this.”

Butkiewicz and Tony Nunziato, president of the Juniper Park Civic Association, said the community had offered a number of alternatives, including a report prepared by Christina Wilkinson of the JPCA and Newtown Historical Society that proponents said would have greatly reduced the number of street stations with only minor alterations to the DOT plan. Butkiewicz placed blame for the problems on the de Blasio administration

“It’s on pause pending community feedback,” Butkiewicz said. “We were pleased to hear that, because that’s all we wanted. We understand that contracts had been entered into a number of years ago, putting everyone into a situation that’s hard to get out of. What we want is the maximum benefit for the community while eliminating potential problems downstream.”

A DOT spokesman said in an email that the agency will be ready.

“Citi Bike has proven to be a wildly popular transportation option with ridership soaring since the pandemic,” he said. “DOT continues to thoughtfully incorporate community feedback and we’re excited to roll out new stations in January.” (STFU already, it's clearly not popular-JQ LLC)

Nunziato said the loss of parking spaces would be a hardship for many seniors who rely on cars to get around. A third-generation businessman, he said it could destroy small businesses still reeling from the pandemic.

“They’re pitting businesses against each other,” he said. “Citi Bike is a business. They’d be taking parking spaces from small businesses and giving them to a competing business. Small businesses built this city. Take parking away from small business and you close small businesses.”

"“DOT continues to thoughtfully incorporate community feedback and we’re excited to roll out new stations in January.”

DOT has never thought about anything they've conceived of shoving down our throats. Witness the Woodhaven Boulevard "Improvements"

They're a bunch of clueless commies...I believe all these citibike stations were never surveyed. Just looked at on Google Earth and the bimbos that are DOT said to themselves "Ooooh Those look like good spots to save the planet with poorly maintained filthy Citibike stations".

Not to mention entering into a "Contract" with Lyft that is so binding without consulting the community is bureaucratic arrogance at it's absolute worst.

"Department of Transportation Alternatives Saving the planet by inconveniencing one neighborhood at a time" so we can feel good about ourselves. "It worked in Buffalo so it's gotta work here right?

Me thinks that the locals should carry ice picks (remember those?) with them and impale the tires of the CitiBikes.
It's very difficult to cycle around the 4th "Coolest" place in the world to live on flat tires.

There is a fiction that Citibike is "Popular in CB5" Nothing is further from the truth.
If you feel the same, that it's NOT popular, or RIGHT for our Community Board; drop a note to the board at qn05@cb.nyc.gov
You should indicate that you live in the district and care a great deal about the unwanted incursion of this ill conceived boondoggle of an idea from D.O.T.

This is something that should have been put before the residents as a referendum anyway...

The entire plan from citibike stations to the covid shed is to make using and driving a car as difficult as possible. It's a feature not a problem for the planners.

The war on cars continues. Instead of warring with Cars maybe you should war with all these dumb uber and lyft cars. There are way too many of them on the streets and they take up good parking spaces. If you want more bikes, then limit the number of these uber and lyft cars.

This would be a disaster on many levels in Middle Village or Ridgewood with small private "stoop" residential and unlimited food being so close.

"Citibike has proven to be a wildly popular transportation option"
Im on City Island and it SUCKS during summer since this Citibik Trojan became popular.
Now all the citys drunks, garbage and degenerates who cant afford cars that usually trash Pelham Bay park now can come across Pelham bridge + City Island bridge to eat the greasy fried fish takeout, Sammys & Seafood City patrons are the worst.
These nasty citybike people have no place to sit and will plop down and eat, rest drink, pee in people doorways, front stoops and toss the Styrofoam takeout containers, garbage, sauce's, bones, shrimp tales, corn cobs, crab legs, chicken wings (you name it) ever-ware.
You can have a trash can 2 feet away it makes no difference, they simply say "FU! you rich people can afford to clean it up" it and use your stoop, sidewalk, driveway. Ballsy bastards!!

I lost count of how many times I had to tell some urban asshole this is private property GTF outta here and take your pig pen with you! Twice ending with the neighbors and myself grabbing baseball bats. (Since BLM and Citibike Ring doorbells, speakers, tasers, pepper spray and bats on a brackets behind the front doors is the new normal in some neighborhoods)
---special privilege due to poverty my ass.
A woman on Winter street was attacked and beaten on her own front porch over this shit, when 4 black women on bikes decided to open her gate, plop down and have a seafood Smörgåsbord.
After waiting for the police who never showed the woman kindly asked them to go in the park because it was 11PM and she cant sleep has work at 5AM at the hospital. ---She wasn't rude and they still jumped on her instantly !!
Get this ! When the cops showed up at the hospital they BLAMED HER for engaging them!!
Half the time citybike people are too drunk or out of shape to take the bikes back to the hood, jump on the bus and leave the the bikes in the street abandoned for days.
The hoods also use these bikes for robbery and muggings
Here after near WW III they have abandoned the citybike plan and increased the bus service into wee hours instead.

Att: Bob Holden and Christina---Avoid placing Citybike near private small residential at all costs like the plague. City Bike brings the worst human garbage out there.
BAD NEWS, BAD NEWS, just as bad as homeless shelter in my opinion.

Does the community just include Bob Holden and his cronies?

Doing everything possible to force integrate and destroy the last good neighborhoods.
Socialists (Communists) always need to destroy quality of life for good hard working private home and business owners.

"Contract"
Yea, the bastards locked this in before any public input because they new most people would have been against it.
Thats why Andy Gargoyle warned on TV "If you dont like socialism, don't want to share with you fellow man, wanna have guns you better start thinking about New York City is no longer the place for you" "Get out"
I'm sure this new shit Governor and Albany lawmakers support this also, New York is falling just like the Roman Empire, actually worse thanks to stupid voters.
Its becoming embarrassing to be a New Yorker, the whole world is laughing at us.

Looking forward to the new docks and being able to Citibike to new neighborhoods. Thanks for covering this!

Another win for big oil.

Pouring rain this morning. Anyone out on Citibikes?

I'm really surprised some Deplorable truckers haven't yet tried to plow down those Citibike stations in the wee hours. Remember the 1970 Hard Hat Riots where construction workers beat up student demonstrators? I was surprised by the "insurrection" because Deplorables usually respect authority and would have gone after the San Francisco and Manhattan social media instead.

Someone said "Another win for big oil"

The reality is, it's a win for neighborhood self determination.

Tell those hipster new arrivals to take their bikes and shove 'em.

Ice Picks are indeed the answer, and use them liberally. Your government is corrupt and openly supports any initiative that abuses law abiding citizens rights.

"Does the community just include Bob Holden and his cronies?"

I've never met an elected that is so responsive to his constituents as Bob Holden is. If it affects his district he's all over it. I'm truly sorry he's term limited the end of this term..

He pisses off a lot of the Juan Ardila crowd, but fuck 'em if they can't take it, they epitomize the term "Tyranny of the minority"

@“ Driving isn't a Constitutional right, Einsteins.”?
Are you sure Commie? Didn’t Washington cross the Potomac in a pickup truck? And just for good measure, Jesus had a soft spot for Japanese cars.

No, due to streets and clients so shitty Citi-Bike has started filling the tires with this foam gel-nitrogen mix that hardens when combined instead of air. You ride on silicon rubber mix instead of air.
I dont know what its called exactly, I dont bike or two wheel E-Nut on city streets. Im not stupid enough nor insured for death or injory on a bike or trike.
