Machine wants Garodnick for Speaker

From City and State:

Multiple sources have told City & State that the three Democratic county leaders, Rep. Joe Crowley of Queens, Assemblyman Carl Heastie of the Bronx, and Frank Seddio of Brooklyn have coalesced around Councilman Dan Garodnick for City Council Speaker.

A source close to the county organizations said that the county leaders believe that they have 30 or more votes, more than enough for Garodnick to win the Speakership. The minimum votes needed is 26.

His mouth and arms are wired just like a puppet.

What the county leaders really want is anyone but Viverito and they can't be faulted for that.

My sources told me that Crowley was really pushing for Curtis Sliwa to be the Speaker.

I think we should want the speaker that the machine does not want (and please stop dignifying these people as 'county this' and 'county that'.)

They are about as much a part of real government as mobsters are real 'families'.

We need a new name that gives just the right image on political thugs.

For the next year, it's all about showing DeBlasio who's the boss.

Well that settles that Garodnik it is...

Mark-Viverito declared victory tonight, according to Politicker. Van Bramer, Dromm, Daneek Miller and Donnovan Richards bucked County and supported her bid.

Here are the losers:

Rory, the self-declared progressive who avoided taking sides in the speaker's race.

Mark Weprin: Didn't get the speakership, good luck getting a committee chairmanship. Most likely, the chairs will go to the Progressives and the Brooklynites.

On Costa, Koslowitz, Koo, I can't say for sure. Their positions in the new pecking order seem safe for now. They stayed out of the contest and kept quiet (other than the flag pledge flap)

The vote is not until January 8, and Garodnick is not backing down, and he now has the support of Weprin.

How do you spell whore??? Ulrich! Behold the words from his own mouth on Mark-Viverito. Obviously he and she pledge their allegiance to back-room deals, not democracy.

“If you take an oath of office to serve the public in this country, you should have no
problems pledging allegiance to its flag,” Ulrich said. “Anyone who claims otherwise
is really making a mockery out of this. I’m deeply troubled and puzzled that
someone who wants to hold one of the highest offices in this city does not feel the
need to stand up and say the pledge of allegiance for all these years.”

“I don’t believe, notwithstanding the pledge thing, that she would be the best choice
for the speaker because I don’t believe that she can be an effective counterweight to
the mayor,” he said. “I think that the Council needs to be a partner in government,
but also needs to be a check on the executive branch. Having someone like her
running the legislative branch of the city government would be a disaster. I know
that a lot of my colleagues feel the same way.”

“I want to congratulate my colleague Melissa Mark-Viverito on winning a hardfought
race for Speaker of the City Council. I am happy to be part of a diverse
coalition of councilmembers and look forward to working with them in a bipartisan
fashion on behalf of the working and middle class families in my district and
throughout the five boroughs.”

This is quite a battle, Rep. Joe Crowley returned from Virginia to stump for Garodnick at City hall this morning.

There will be a lot of wheeling, dealing, and strong-arming before the vote ultimately happens on January 8th. It's not over yet.

Looks like Crowley isn't going to get his way for a change.

Looks like the machines got banged in the tookass!
So now you know how us residents feel, taking it in the back door all these years from county!

Yep...
and there goes paul Vallone's cushy committee appointment. Put him on the library committee.

Crowley's gonna get a nice pension when he retires. He's already got what he really wants.

"It's nice to be king" and almost as nice to be a Congressman and party leader.

Joe's got he best medical plan in the business too.
Wadda you all pay for coverage?

Eric Ulrich represents one of the most conservative districts in the city. His explanation that his 180 from MarkViverito being a "disaster" to being someone he supports is ludicrous. He said "like all decisions I have to make at City Hall I try to do it keeping in mind what I think is in the best interest of the people I represent in Queens." So the gospel according to Ulrich is that his insuring the election of the most liberal of the candidates for speaker best will serve his district. The man has no principles. Get real, he sold his vote pandering for favor.

Hey Pinky Gallagher, Mark-Viverito and Garodnick are both extreme Liberals. Garodnick panders for votes and will say and do anything to get them. He' just as liberal as Mark-Viverito.

So who would you vote for. A Speaker the Mayor wants or a Speaker Virginia Joe wants?

Mark-Viverito has the votes WITHOUT Ulrich's. Eric is being smart and doing the best for his district.
