Tall fences make good neighbors

George the Atheist reports that a wooden fence has been erected (heh) around "Bear Eats Man" at Socrates Sculpture Park.

And this fence cost taxpayers how much?

Ahhhh, a graffiti taggers delight.

There should be a contest:

"How ridiculous can they be??!!"

If they have to put a fence around a piece of public "art" to protect innocent eyes from seeing it, what does that say about that work of "art"? Why not just admit that it didn't belong in a public park in the first place?

Jimmy Van Bramer is a generous supporter of art at Socrates.

Where do we go to get a refund?

Great. Now fill up the enclosed area within the fence with some of Moretti's garbage and set the whole thing afire. Recycling at its best: using garbage to burn garbage.

good . . .

Think about it, folks. The philosophical implications. As the great Objectivist scholar John from CONN has maintained:

"PUBLIC ART THAT NEEDS TO BE HIDDEN."

Zen-like in its confusion. ("What is the sound of one hand clapping?")

So? Just who's responsible for this fence? An addition to the original so-called "artwork"?

The sculptor Thordis Adalsteinsdottir?

The Socrates artists' coalition?

The NYC Department of Parks?

The Rubin Foundation?

Jimmy Van Bramer, friend of Upzone Stamatiades, the Library Board of Directors, generously funds waterfront projects like this so there is more development - while closing the St Mary Senior Center.

This is Queens - So-Crates is not a real park, but an amenity to attract development - and campaign donations from the Rubins and Sunas.

There is nothing here folks, move on.

This Bear Meets Man saga has been a wonderful story to follow. Not many could appreciate it's depth. All thanks to G the A and the Crapper...Who'd a thunk it! It is the perfect microcosm of what is wrong with our society today; from every angle that has been projected...This is how "true journalists" were meant to cover stories, in an objective fashion! It also proves Ludwig Von Mises theorem in a nut shell...How one government intervention always leads to another than another in an unbreakable endless chain. Once the fence gets knocked down or spray painted, the busy bodies will bring us yet another bright idea to follow to protect the fence and publicly enforced crap art. I could list an infinite list of potential scenarios that could come next. I will leave it up to your imagination to fill in the blanks. It always ends in some type of dystopian future....

Public art that needs to be hidden....lol.....The philosophic decay up and down this story would drive Rand nutz...

This is not how public lands were ever intended to be used!

Socrates Sculpture Park ?
Where is this "park" never heard of it ?

"Not many could appreciate it's depth."

Just people who think of themselves as intellectual elitists and believe that what they say is so important that it needs to be seen in bold print?

Along Vernon Boulevard by Rainey Park, Joe. It's been there for a while.

"been there for a while"

Weird !
I remember a big dump with breakwater rocks & garbage down there.
Now hipster and Greek art ? Jeez same difference I guess :)

No question, Joe. ;-)

Q: "Just people who think of themselves as intellectual elitists and believe that what they say is so important that it needs to be seen in bold print?"

A: I actually am a Resident Intellectual Emeritus of The Right Perspective Radio Program!

Have confidence in yourself as an "individual" and let reason be the guide to truth.

Did you remember to send yourself a card on Valentine's Day, John?

this only makes it more obscene, like the parents and kids who frequent the park will suddenly forget after they saw it for weeks.

mommy,is that bear still raping that man?

I don't see any depth in this "piece".
this art was inspired by a scene in Super troopers, except in reverse.Banksy is phenomenal, but I was afraid he was going to inspire untalented morons.

Socialism=Attack and be jealous of achievement

Wake up Eloi!

Thank you, John the Morlock.

Learning how to use bold print on a computer is quite an achievement.

John from Conn said...

The Morlocks wanted to keep the Eloi enslaved for food. I wrote "Wake up Eloi," why would you call me "John the Morlock?" How could that apply here? This is a logical inconsistency. Always check your concretes before you try a feeble and silly little sophistry....You might have aptly chosen H.G. Wells...either way I know you didn't read the book. Socialism also = No Depth....You people got to admit the bold looks cool....

Because if you're not an Eloi, you're a Morlock. You started that nonsense here.

Those who carry on with a pseudo-intellectual act often get caught in their own muck.

Now, as they say....let the audience decide.
