A plan to turn a famed Long Island City graffiti landmark into a pair of luxury condo towers was voted down Thursday night.
Members of Community Board 2 at the meeting on the future of 5Pointz said they wanted developer G & M Realty to offer some affordable housing and more artist space.
David Wolkoff, one of the owners of the former water meter factory, said he plans to “very seriously” look into the board’s suggestions.
But he pointed out that the board is strictly advisory and the local tourist attraction will be razed once the project receives city approval.

You know the guy that wants to make sure that every trustafarian can sleep like they are in the country - while living next to a train yard?
We all did get an email for some tweeder event this week from him so he must be in town.
Sure, the 7 train has plenty of space for the morning rush as does the subways at the plaza (that are also running under-capacity.)
Soon you will deck over the trainyards replaying for Astoria and Sunnyside what Co-op City did for the Bronx.
It's not likely that 5 Pointz will be immediately razed as soon as the city approves Wolkoff's plan.
This is typical slime ball Wolkoff behavior.
We are witnessing a bull shitting slumlord's bravado which has delivered nothing but a big show with very little blow!
The Wolkoff spawn will probably sit on their plan for at least 2 more years.
There are major environmental issues that exist here. There is also great expense involved...being so close to MTA property...for a quick over the weekend demolition job.
There are about 3 scenarios that might unfold:
#1.
The Wolkoffs flip the property because they're under water financially with their Pilgrim State fiasco.
#2.
Another option might be to hook an investor once Wolkoff gets his desired zoning variance from the BSA. In this bad economy...and with all the liabilities involved here...not immediately a realistic expectation.
#3.
Maybe the Wolkoffs intend to borrow money on the increased evaluation of the property once a variance has been secured.
Whatever happens...the Wolcoff family are slumlord thugs who care only about their bottom line.
They will seek to fatten themselves with more loot, at the community's expense. That's what a slumlord does.
Meanwhile the rats love the Wolcoffs.
It's not just because they are members of the same species.
These 4 legged rodents have free run of the place...due to Jerry and David Wolkoff's filthy food cart vendor tenants... who continually violate sanitation laws.
Now, as early as noon, the rats come out for lunch.

Rat and pigeon feces wind up in those coffee cart trucks which serve New York thanks to the Wolkoffs.
They are aiding and abetting a major health crisis.
Our advice is not to eat anything from any food cart.
It could have been loaded up at the Wolkoff slum.

Now let's see if the borough board, at borough hall, votes the Wolkoff scheme down.

It's a world renowned graffiti mecca, and one of the few attractions that international tourists actively come out to see in Queens not related to some sporting event. If Wolkoff wanted to direct his resources and energies to make money, he could do much to drive up tourism in partnership with MOMA/PS1 across the street as well as the smaller businesses in LIC that line Jackson Ave. Instead he's pushing for the philistine option. Any chance of getting this thing landmarked?
The only brightly-colored paint Van Bramer approves of is in Doughboy Park.
Van Bramer's favourite colour is lavender.
There was a tour guide who spoke at this CB2 hearing--extolling the great importance of 5 Pointz--not only to New York, but the whole world.
He noted that visitors to NYC are reluctant to come out to Queens--favoring Manhattan tourist sites instead.
If they set foot in our borough, they clamor to visit
5 Pointz, because it's become a world renown tourist attraction.
New York City is missing the boat on creating a unique museum here. Calling Terri Osborne!
5 Pointz should be preserved as a revenue generating venue. P.S. 1 is right across the street.
If Manhattan has its "Museum Mile", why not begin creating one here in Queens--and so very close to Manhattan to get its spill over.
An afterthought:
5 Pointz has proven, over the years, to be extremely useful.
For one thing--
it's taken a lot of marginal kids off of the streets and led them forward to successful art careers.

I was thinking the same thing about you! What a coincidence.
Interesting how the community boards in Sunnyside and Astoria are signing the death warrants for their communities.
For you see, at some point in the near future the population in the new development will be greater than those communities.
The waterfront already has a reputation of siphoning off researches from those communities (remember the black out a few years ago - the waterfront towers had their lights while you sat in darkness).
It about time that Crappy look into this growing problem.
Doubtful that they will wake up (this is Queens after all), but it will be fun for Queens Crap to trace how the waterfront parasite will eventually take over its host.
Let's see how the Wolcoff slumlord does at borough hall. Will he get a free pass for his twin 40+ story pipe dream plan there?

Lavishing funds on organizations that already have large grant writing wings (PS1, MMI, et al) while the heart of the cultural community gets crumbs....if anything at all.
